Topic: LAN games that require no skill??

I'm arranging a lan with a few mates, the majority of which aren't really hardcore gamers. I'm looking for games (older games / easy to run games maybe?) that are fun to play for a non-gamer/noob-gamer over lan... perhaps any sort of co-op game too.

The only game that springs to mind is the old 2d GTA games, that used to be a blast over lan.

Serious sam is always fun co-op as is unreal tournament arena mode ... i think that is it.

UT2k4 arena mode is where you and your team take on endless waves of mobs that get harder. We always like to play instagib arean or bombing run.

Carmageddon used to be fun as did power slide.

Counter strike fun maps like glass wars also was fun
Warcraft3
Monopoly tycoon
Call of Duty 1
Settlers 4
Strong hold
Total annihilation
Tetranet
Mid Town Madness
Moto Cross
Dungeon Siege & 2

All the above are fun and low end pc games.

Hell yeah, I really got into both Painkiller and the Expansion pack for a while. I thoroughly enjoyed both them but I thought the expansion pack was a little short. It does suck that they didnt include co-op, I rekon the game would have done so much better sales wise if they'd put it in, this is of course where Serious Sam dominates. There was a co-op mod for Painkiller but I could never get it working.

As for LAN games that require little to no skill:
Serious Sam co-op
DoomII Co-op (can be run quite easily with zdaemon)
Quake1 co-op
Flatout 1
Original GTA (Cannonball Run mode rocked)

This last weekend I was at a lan and played the Warcraft3 mod (battleships) for the first time, I've never really been into the whole RTS genre but I picked this up pretty quick and it was a lot of fun to play. TowerD is also another War3 mod that is very easy to pick up.

just play your favourite game and totally own them and tell them they suck
that's what i'd do if i had friends

seriously though, i think anything coop then they will probably try and shoot each other anyway :)

hands does serious sam 2 is the funnest noob game you can ever find

recently i went to a big lan with a bunch of majority of complete noob mates, a few elitists like myself (lawl) and some intermediate guys.

they refused to play it for hours, until they got pissed, then i finnaly convinced them to play it. we stayed up til like 3am playing it haha.

I used to play quake with my brother & duke nukem with my friends when I first started out in games. That and need for speed 2. You could always try C&C something or other, I played some co-op generals with some dudes once it was ok if you're into that sort of thing.

Rune
Serious Sam 2nd Encounter (not SS2, this was like SS1.5 or something)
FarCry (Assault if you can get 5v5)
Flatout 1 or 2
UT2k4 Carball
Ghost Recon (& expansions) on hardest setting if you want some intense co-op action

Ah, such a bunch of cainers! So many good suggestions.

Never played Serious Sam, I will check it out prior to the LAN since so many people suggested it.

SOLDAT! Awesome suggestion, will definetely set that up. I will try and set up some of the old school FPS's for co-op, I'm always a bit spaz with them (will probably repost soon about it).

TA, WC2/WC3, C&C, Starcraft and other RTS we already have planned... same with some Quake2 (AQ2, Rocket Olympics, Qpong).

Ghost Recon too! That would rock co-op... I remember playing that a while ago... very intense game.

we also had a ball with the UT deathball mod. It was like soccer or something with a giant ball, I forget now it's been years since I played it, not even sure if it's still around.

Play diablo2. Runs on almost anything, requires no skill except lot's of quicking and potion slogging, and you can get through all the chapters in a few days of solid co-op :p

we still play Deathball mod at every lan almost. It's like bombing run, except there's no other weapons other than the weapon launcher. guided passing etc. it's a must try for anyone who likes bombing run.

I vote Virtua Tennis. only 4 players, but s*** it's easy for a nub to play, and it's hilarious fun!

always a winnar at my lans.

Trackmania Nations usually provides much fun at LANs I have been to lately.

Stick it on 5 min unlimited respawn on multiplayer time trials and just keep hoonin it to try and get the fastest time.

Once everyone gets the steering down the times start getting really close and it gets pretty intense :)

It is just arrow keys, go stop left and right so even major nubes can play it.

PLUS its free too.

The way i see it, the aim of cs is to try and bs as much as you can, and the best bs'er wins.

That's where skill comes into it.

Crimson Skies was awesome fun though eh.. I wouldn't call it a 'no skill' game though.

how did this lan come off anyways? did it end up just being a pr0n leech session or didya get to game some?

Still got a week or two probably till it happens, need more time to organise games and such.

Damn non-gamers not wanting to move their comps around.
