This car does really exist!!
http://img421.imageshack.us/img421/5340/2motorcycle6xe.jpg This is the Tango. It goes against everything your eyes and common sense tell you about small electric vehicles: * Its insanely narrow yet hugs the road very well. * Its an EV but it has an acceleration of 0-100klms in approx 4 seconds. * It recharges in minutes not hours. * Its reasonably safe as it has a rigid steel saftey cell. The other bonus features include: * Park it in tiny spaces. 4 Tangos fit in just 1 city car space. * No need to worry about Petrol Prices EVER! * Will soon have Lith-ion batteries to make its range and perfomance even higher. * 2 Tangos can travel in just 1 lane. * Direct drive EV's are much less complicated than regular vehicles as they have no gearbox, starter-motor etc. Therefore they are cheap to maintain. * Tis almost silent. Cons: * Only a Tandem 2 seater. Remember its is only a COMMUTER vehicle! * Prolly wont impress your bogan mates * Prolly wont impress any dumb blondes you are trying to score with. * Not good for drifting and doof-doof. ^ Yes herr Kommandant... watever mate
Rebuttle time: * In its kit form as there only in pre production stage is $85k. No doubt a market for impatients and wealthy greenies. You'd have to be some sort of retard to think that when the China and Mexican plants go into the production that the price would stay around $85k. Once mass-produced Im betting they wont cost more than a few thousand dollars. * With the Lith-ion batteries which will be the standard for all EV's the range will be 150 miles/240klms on 1 charge. Currently its 80 miles or 128 klms on lead acid. Which means for the Average commuter theyd only have to charge it maybe twice a week. * This car will be EXTREMELY usefull as a 2nd vehicle for suburban and city commuting. It will be INSANELY useful when the petrol inevitably becomes unaffordable which could be the next terrorist attack or hurricane. |

I'd have to say the smallest size car I would go with would be something about the size of the mini cooper.

Now this is my kind of electric car. I saw it reviewed on 5th gear a few weeeks ago in Monaco. Roger Moore even came down and bought one at $300,000AU for his wife. Apprently Kenau Reeves and some more movie celebs have put orders in for some.
Whilst the reviewer was driving arround in it, it was unbelievably awesome to watch what happens when he put the foot down. Instant torque and amazing accelleration all with this spooky quite whine that actually made it sound pretty sexy. Just gotta win lotto. |

^ Yeah I saw that one last week. Nice car but impractical because of the pricing. I notice how in the EV article they keep commenting about 'fuel cell' technology. FC will only be good for heavy vehicles, trucks, buses etc.
With battery technology advancing so quickly EV's are the way of the future. |
