Well, it hasn't been officially confirmed yet, but Kirsten Dunst let it slip in an interview that Topher Grace will be playing Eddie Brock/Venom in Spiderman 3, and Thomas Haden Church will be playing Sandman.

I would have thought that William Dafoe's son would have become the Hobgoblin or something like that....just watched Spidie 2 the other night,he finds all his fathers Green Goblin gear in the secret room.

It needs more action and less Peter Parker whining that he doesn't want super powers.

i was hoping that hobgoblin would'nt be in the next spider man. too soon for that. venom i was expecting (and hoping) for, but sandman? that came out of now here. i had even forgotten that he was a spider man villian. wonder how they are going to do venom though as his symbiot (spelling?) can change into so much stuff. also i have no idea who this grace guy is, but he better be built as eddie brock was no small pussy. he was tank of a guy.

Topher Grace is the guy from that 70s show, he looks like Toby Maguire, When spiderman came out i thought he was the actor playing spidey.

i never watched that 70s show but if im thinking of the right guy, he seriously isnt eddie brock like. for once i was actualy glad when i heard the rock might play venom, since he is about the right build for it.

- Depends what venom they are referencing
- Kirsten may of got it wrong, she mixed up who was playing what last time and was confused when she answered this question aswell
- If correct he will contrast well with toby maguire, both similar looking guys, something amazing happens to both only this time one goes bad etc

that about covers it all :P

In the comics, Harry became the next Green Goblin. Hobgoblin was a different guy altogether.

Seems that Venom's inclusion would purely be popularist pandering, since Sam Raimi hates the character (and symbiote storylines).

Difficulty for Venom is not the suit (CG) or the person (just any beefy dude) but in story. Spidey picked up the Venom costume I think during the infinity war in space which they obviously won’t be able to do but where else cdoes it come from? Does Spidey wear it first then discard it, seriously pissing it off or will Eddie just find it? (which would be crappier).

Google the ultimate venom origin, the venom suit is a genetic experiment from peter and eddies fathers, so they could use that alternate origin.

Yeah, the "hot gossip" is that they're using the Ultimate Venom origin, and with Topher Grace as Eddie Brock that makes sense. The Eddie Brock in Ultimate Spiderman isn't a big beefcake, hes a disgraced journalist that hates Peter Parker.

Never heard of this alternate venom, but the original cartoon venom was awesome. Carnage wasn't.

the way i remember venom storyline was (and i might be a bit rusty here) that while on some space mission they found the symbiote, they bring it back and somehow it gets attached to spider man. he uses it for awhile and then gets rid of it for some reason. i forget why exactly but yet, he drives it out with loud noise. the symbiote copies his powers and then attaches to brock who hates spiderman for ruining his career (i guess with his crappy, non spidy photos) and they join up for venom. and yes, carnage was crap.

they could spin that as in spidy 2, johna's (spelling?) son had come back from space, or was going to space or something like that. nothing wrong with just slipping the venom story in there with his character. since i assumed thats why they even bothered to mention him as i dont remember his character at all in any comics

Thanks i missed that the other two times it was mentioned in this huge arse thread.

So they could change who venom is (eddie brock), and screw around with the origin they are trying to emulate... or they could follow the Ultimate origin.

They threw quite a few other characters in, not just Jameson junior

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Jameson_%28comics%29

he uses it for awhile and then gets rid of it for some reason.
I am just throwing this out there.. but maybe because the venom suit turned out to be a tad evil?

yes, carnage was crap

You'll be happy to know then that Carnage now has its own offspring, called Toxin! I wonder if the term "flogging a dead horse" means anything to the writers of that series. Haven't read it, but apparently the Toxin symbiote merges with a cop and so becomes a good, law-upholding alien symbiote and fights Carnage? Something like that, my care factor is low.

In general, I'm not much of a fan of Ultimate Spider-man, it seems kinda like dumbed-down Spider-man (which I guess is the intent really), and its too full of Peter Parker whinging and whining and trying to get to grips with his powers and s***. It does make for a nice, neat place for them to pull movie villians from though I guess, seeing as the whole point of the Ultimate line is to do away with the 40 odd years of continuity and reinvent things for new readers. Personally though I found it all a bit too patronising, I mean, I'm a new reader and I had no trouble jumping straight into the JMS run of Amazing Spiderman (which, btw, totally ROCKS, thanks for whoever suggested that, I think it was Bah), and its so much better than Ultimate.
