Well, at least Kat can admit when she doesn't know anything.

And yes, serenity is firefly.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0379786/
Plot Outline: The feature-length adaptation of Joss Whedon's TV show "Firefly", set five hundred years in the future, aboard Serenity, a transport ship captained by Capt. Malcolm "Mal" Reynolds.

The TV show Firefly is set before the movie Serenity.

Its a country and western sci fi movie made by the guy that did angel, buffy and artwork for the uncanny xmen (Joss Whedon).

It is a watchible action movie for those who nothing about firefly, but for those who do, its a continuation of a storyline where the crazy sister has become all powerful and s*** and the evil corporation is hunting her down. The TV series got canned just as it got interesting.

Dorky ? yes
Nerdy ? yes

And the fans don't give a flying f*** what you think or if you go to see it, you aren't their target audience. This movie will appeal to Joss Whedon fans, to firefly fans and to sci fi (bsg, atlantis style not star trek style) fans.

And the annoying part is, that after typing this your opinion won't be changed, and I haven't "really" explained the movie. ie. Nothing has been achieve.

thats my 2c's

Holy f***!!

That movie was f***ing awesome!!!

I wont put any spoilers but they finally explain how the reavers came around and there was an awesome space battle near the end and heaps of other cool s*** went down. Also, let me say, Jane is f***ing hilarious. He had some great one-liners. Damn he rocks very hard.

Anyway, be good once you guys have seen it and we can discuss more stuff. Twas a million times better than the last three Star Wars films put together.

WooT!!

I just got back from seeing it about 30 mins ago. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Much better than the TV series but that was to be expected from being an actual movie.

That movie was pretty damn cool. Left me with a few sad pandas(the captain acted a little different than he did in the series imo), but it was pretty freakin awesome none-the-less.

Kayley: "You mean.. like... sex?"
Simon nods
Kayley: "I'm gunna LIVE!"

---

River: "My turn."

---

Mal: "... and if I'm wrong, you best shoot me now..."
River cocks the pistol
Mal: "... or we can talk some more."

I love the scene at the end when they're all blocked in and someone says, "you know we're all prolly gonna die", and then Jane says, "i might make it".

Haha, he cracks me up.

So glad I saw that at the cinema.

The Operative: Are you willing to die for your beliefs?
Mal: Yes...
BLAM BLAM BLAM!
Mal: 'Course, that ain't plan A.

---

Mal: Dear Buddha, I would like a pony and a plastic rocket.

---

Mal: While I'm gone, Zoe is in command. Now, if I'm not back in an hour, I want you to take this ship, take off... and you come and you rescue me!
Zoe: What? And risk my new ship?

So many good quotes...

so i've seen the first two eps of firefly. it's ok so far, nothing amazing but I guess it gets better. Should i watch them all (can watch adams dvds) before i see the film? or just see the movie and be over with it?

also rev, damnit stop the star wars bashing ffs lol. every movie thread you compare it to how much you hate the star wars prequals. leave them alone :( no need to diss it to make you feel better, george lucas and no one else cares how much greater you think serenity is than his films.

Just Go watch the movie man. Apart from the sad parts, the movie kicks you into the universe and re-introduces every character's character.
You'll probably get more from it if you watch the movie now and grab my dvd's later than if you miss the movie because you were watching the dvds.

"The Fools. They're not even changing course..."

GO NOW!

No way, if you have the option, I'd definitely recommend watching the entire series before seeing the film. Joss did a damn good job introducing every character in the movie, but it has to be almost character overload for anyone not allready familiar trying to remember everyone's place.

The first half hour new faces just keep appearing, and I was constantly thinking, how the hell is anyone not familiar with them allready taking all this in.

Yes, but if there's an option of seeing the movie now, then watching the Firefly series in the proceeding months afterwards, as opposed to procrastinating watching firefly and missing the movie altogether at the movies... go see Serenity now.

EDIT:
The rest of this thread contains Spoilers

Months? I watched the whole series of Firefly in a couple of days, its only 14 eps after all. Even if you're lame and it takes you a couple of weeks, the movie will still be around in cinemas.

Awesome movie. I do agree with the comment though that the captain seemed a little different in the movie. **Possible minor spoilers below here** Also Kayley's comment along the lines of "he'll pressure us off (the boat) one by one." didn't seem in line with the what the crew and especially she thought of him.

but meh. Jayne was awesome, the rievers(sp) were awesome, fight scenes with the assassin were awesome, fight scenes with river were awesome.

**bigger spoiler**
also. why didn't they just close the big ass blast doors in the first place at the end. instead of getting themselves all shot up outside them first.

Thats not a big spoiler, a big spoiler would be "Wash dies".

But yeah, that comment of Kaylee's that you mentioned, I thought the same thing at the time. I was thinking "s***, that was harsh", but then I guess she might have just been angry at Mal for booting her pooty tang off the ship.

Also, Simon seemed way cooler in the movie than he was in the show. That whole scene at the start when he rescued River, that rocked. And he'd obviously grown a pair of balls between the show and the movie cos he stood up to Mal a lot more too.

I think I liked the series better. Here are my thoughts:

1. It was much more serious with humour/sarcasm inserted more carefully and less often, compared to the movie which had too many lame attempts at humour.

2. In the series, the Reevers were built up to be very Very Bad(tm), sort of Event Horizon organic-style brutality. In the movie, they weren't introduced with enough fear and didn't seem *that* bad. Just killing, raping, looting ... they could have just been New Orleanians for all I knew.

3. Not much talk of being a Companion. No big loss, but it was a big focus in many of the episodes.

4. The movie had less of the awesome Jayne quotes that crack you up. There were a couple but not like in the series: *Jayne watches two chicks make out* .. "Umm.., I'll be in my bunk!"

Sure the movie was meant to be sort of a continuation of the series, but it was also meant to be standalone for those who haven't seen the episodes, hence my argument that Reevers were not built up well enough. But I guess there's only so much you can pack into a movie ...

i thought the movie rock, was really sad that they killed off a really good source for a story, aka, preacher, i remember an ep where he flashes a card at alliance asif he is in kahootz with them and i figured joss would use that as a story line later on.. instead he f***ing kills the character off. also wash dying just shows how strong zoe' is of a character

also Spoilers....

I gotta say I was pretty damn sad when Wash died. I mean, he'd just pilotted that little ship through a massive atmospheric battle, recovered the ship from an EMP and managed to 'glide' Serenity in, and he doesn't even get to finish his victory sentence. I dunno.. I'm left with the thought that reever ship was there a little too quick, which made Wash's death a little dodgy in my eyes.
Also, did anyone notice themselves looking at wash's Dinosaur toys alot more in the cockpit scenes after his death? That "Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal" line kept running through my head. :'(

Reevers wise, there really wasn't all that much actual footage of them, since most of the camera work was on the crew. I do agree that they didn't seem as baddassed and feared as they did in the series; they could have been built up a little more in my opinion - the fact that the movie actually explained how they came about was difinately better for the viewers of the series.

I dunno.. I'm left with the thought that reever ship was there a little too quick, which made Wash's death a little dodgy in my eyes.

Too quick? I was thinking, if anything, it was too slow. It was right on top of them as they were coming down to the planet, then in the during crash landing scene I was thinking "wtf, where did the Reaver ship disappear to?"

I dunno how much more built up they could be. I mean, the series has a lot more time to just leisurely stroll along and build these things up, whereas in a movie you have to make every moment count and you can't (or at least, shouldn't) fluff it up a lot like you would if its a tv series.

You had the kid at the start talking about how reavers rape you to death, you had Mal telling the guy in the vault to get everyone in there and dont come out no matter what, which showed that he considered the Reavers a really dangerous threat, you had the obvious fear that the rest of the crew showed when they heard Reavers were there, you had ships with rotting bodies tied to the front...

On a scale from 1 to nasty, they were definately built up to be nasty.
