How long a line do you have to cast out to pull one of those suckers in?
Must take an hour just to let the winch reel one back in.
My mums got a pic of my of when she was little standing on a beach just north of maryburough next to a dead one of these, it was like 3 times as long as she was tall at about age 6.

interesting, be good if they managed to shoot a decent photo with a bit of perspective to sort of guage how big it really is.

Yeah saw it elsewhere. Pretty cool. The bigger photos on the Nat'Geo site you link are much better.

Finally a useful result from thier "research" , which mysteriously always ends up in resturants on the mainland.

I ment that as in reference to thier country while thier whaling ships are at sea. I know the whole countries an Island. Whales go from ships to resturants on land back home. Didn't mean mainland like your thinking.

So I'm sitting here in the office, looking at that, thinking "hm, how big is that thing. ... ... EIGHT METERS!?"

Diagonally from the door to the roof in front of me would be about 6. That thing's bloody massive!

one of those things washed up on a beach back in the 80's or was it the 70's, hhhmm..

its a bit sad that they just pulled it up and killed it..

should of kept it alive just to see how big it can grow to and how long they live for..

Did you actually read the captions to the photos? It got away, but a couple of its tentacles got ripped off by the big fishing line thing they used.

Saw it on the news last night? I'm pretty sure thats when. Pretty scary one of these things can kill a humpback whale.

Slinky I don't think they can kill humpbacks.

They've been know to leave scars on sperm whales. Shortly before being chewed on and swallowed by said sperm whale.
