There's a new show out from FX Networks called Over There. It's about a group of soldiers in the current Iraq war. The producers declined US military assistance and so it seems to handle the various issues in a fairly balanced way, and is certainly not blatant pro-US propaganda as some people may think.

The sixth episode aired this week and so far it's all been rock solid. Issues covered have been troops hindered by superiors worried about PR, torture of detainees, influence/participation of foriegn fighters, killing of unarmed innocent civilians, the problems of embedded media and the promotion of US attrocities by anti-US media.

While each episode centers around a different theme it follows the general story of one group of soldiers, their troubles, experiences and the experiences of their families at home.

I'd highly recommend this even if we weren't going through a good-TV drought at the moment. This and Starved (another FX show) are about all that's worth watching. (which is a dark-dark-dark depraved comedy about some seriously twisted sick f***s).

Sounds a little like Tour of Duty? Compared to that, what should I expect?

Its quite good, even got the lanhouse boys hooked on it. Nothing beats the legs part in ep 1, where he gets his torso blown.

checked out both ep 1's of those. Out there was fantastic, Starved was ok. I am going to give them both another go though, thanks for the headsup!

Starved takes a couple of eps, Over There is likeable from ep1.

Starved is one of those shows where when you talk/think about it, it's even funnier.

Glad you are liking them so far.

After watching the first ep of Over There I gotta say it's awesome. Grabbed the other 5 that are out and hopefully they'll be just as good.

bah the show is crap. Granted the creator, Bochco, tried to keep it accurate and realistic, but already this far into the season the troops who have managed to see it in Iraq are disgusted at the nonsense dished out.

military inaccuracies mostly, unrealistic scripts etc

but hey, if it entertains, watch it. (just don't believe the chronic generalizations)

The show is character-driven and if you like action, and can watch the show without expecting the plots to be realistic down to the last detail, with ½ a sense of humour you can enjoy it.

Also what stands out is that it intentionally doesn't take a side on the occupation issue. It does show hopelessly lopsided battles where hordes of anonymous, poorly-trained, and poorly-armed arabs are cannon fodder for the Americans, but that's probably what it's like.

I'm looking to break into the right wing propaganda market natslovr, but need a reference from an online "fair and balanced" operative that I've trolled with at least 3 times in the past 2 years. If you could hit me up please mail me at matt_and_trey_vote_g_w_b@gmail.com. thanks in advance.

Given the sheer pounding of the ads for "Over There", I skip it.

"Rescue Me" however, is one of the finest tv drama/comedies I've seen in a long long time.

Hmm, gonna have to try this Rescue Me show. Never heard of it and Dennis Leary is always good value.

Just finished watching ep 6 of Over There and I gotta say I love it. I don't really care if it's a real look on soldiers in Iraq or not, but the stories are entertaining anyway. One thing I've noticed in this and in most movies that involve guns is, whenever someone is holding a gun and their running or walking the gun always makes some type of sound. It's like there's there's something loose and rattling around. Even seems to happen with hand guns as well. Dunno why they add these noises in.

Also, ep 7 is out if anyone's interested.

Episode 12, the last for season 1 is out if anyone still watches this. It didn't really wrap anything up and it could have had a little more action and less chit chat but it was good anyway. I just hope if there's a season 2 they kill off the crippled dude. He's such a nancy, always complaining about his leg and s*** and there should also be more naked scenes involving Mrs B and random hotties.

Isn't that the ISP you have when you can't get a real one?

It's also the ISP you have when you live with your parents and they don't trust you enough to chose an ISP for them and since they've always been with Telstra you just bend over and take it.

It's the ISP you get when you move into a house that's locked into a cable account.
