Just started watching this new HBO series called Rome. Funnily enough, its about Rome! Its set in the time leading up to Julius Caeser becoming emperor, it starts when hes waging war against Gaul. Full of political intrigue, violence and full frontal nudity (well, its a HBO series, what do you expect), its looking like it'll be pretty good. Apparently its one of the most expensive series ever made because of all the huge sets and authentic gear they've made for it.

Anyway, its worth checking out imo, I enjoyed the first episode so I'll be taking a look at the rest of the series. It screens on Sunday nights in the US.

I saw the write up for this on the HBO site and it looks like it'll be worth watching. It's funny how there's nothing to watch for a few weeks and then a heap of new shows turn up and then you gotta keep up to date with them all.

Yeah, I caught the first episode and it looks pretty good so far. It'll still need a couple of episodes for some plotlines to properly develop (although a fair bit has already started) but it seems to be up to par with most of HBO's stuff.

Hopefully it'll make up for them canning Carnivale. :(

Anyway, a mate of mine who's a history student who loves Roman history says that its fairly authentic. There's a bit of artistic license but so far it seems fairly realistic. It'll at least give us something to watch until Sopranos and Deadwood come back next year.

Holy f***!!

I've watched the first 2 eps and this show kicks some major f***ing ass!! It's got carnage, naked chicks and people being crucified and an awesome storyline. Man, I can't wait for the next ep to come out.

Why do so many good shows have to get released around the same time?

It's a million times better than Carnivale. Carnivale took about 3 eps to tell a story that could have easily been told in 1, thus dragging out the series and making it extremely tedious to watch.

Lots of TV starts in september because that's the US ratings season. Quietens off again over the holiday season, and picks up again in Feb/March.

The good thing about being swamped with quality shows, is if you don't follow them all, you can wait till next year's drought and back-to-back the entire season.

Not to mention ancient roman brain surgery in episode 2 =\ That scene was definately cringe-worthy. I loved the doctor's advice though, to make a sacrifice of a goat to some random god to help the guy get better quicker :P Why can't real medicine be based on goat sacrifice! That'd simplify things a whole lot.

And Nip/Tuck comes back this month too, that show rocks. It reminds me of the Sopranos, except with plastic surgeons instead of gangsters.

Oh, and that "My Name is Earl" show with Jason Lee looks cool too, I want to check that out when it starts this month.

Optus need to have a 60gig peak and 60gig off peak I reckon. If that happened I wouldn't complain about download limits again.

Whoah!!

Man, has anyone watched ep 3 of this yet? This show is really starting to get very awesome indeed!
With Casear quickly advancing toward Rome, Pompey begins ordering a retreat and forces his citizens to pick sides. Timon is forced to do Atia's dirty work and Vorenus cannot understand why no one is resisting while on a scouting mission.

So many things happened this episode it'll be interesting to see what happens next. I can't wait to see the look on Pompey's face when he finds out he has no gold to help feed his army. Sucks to be him right about now.

************SPOILERS************

Holy s***!!

Episode 7 was f***ing awesome! The last couple of eps have been rather slow with alot of idle chit chat and not much happening but ep 7 turned out to be very f***ing cool. Caesar defeated Pompey's army in battle (the battle scene was done rather gheyly with about 10 seconds of battle time), so Pompey flees to Epgyt where he thinks he'll team up with a bunch of guys he thinks are still allies with him. Wrong nigga!!!! As soon as he gets off the boat a man he thought was his friend stabs him in the chest and then cuts his head off.

f***ing great ending to the ep. Will be interesting to see where the show goes from here and if there'll be any more fighting and carnage. I'm still waiting for Lucius to find out the child he thinks is his daughters is actually Niobe's. s*** will be hitting the fan then.

Last thing, Titus Pollo is the best character in the whole show. He's f***ing funny as, very laid back and can smite the s*** outta anyone.

yeh Pollo is good but he is a little too laid back and silly. sometimes i just feel as though it is out of place. it basically verges on the point of bumbling idiot sidekick and then all of a sudden he can start pwning noobs. it just doesnt seem to be a neat fit for me. lucius and marc antony for the win. show delivers overall.

Jesus f***ing christ!!

Has anyone watched ep 11 yet? Man, it had some wicked carnage at the end where Titus Pollo takes on about seven gladiators. Twas great watching limbs getting severed and some dude was owned by a mace handle being driven down the side of his neck into his stomach. Just when the show was slowing down a tad, they pull this s*** out.

Was truly a great ending to the episode. I really hope there's more stuff like this in future eps.

Thirteen!

Yeah, it was probably the best ep. so far. Too bad there's only one episode to go and we all know what's going to happen.

It'll be interesting to see what they'll do for Season 2. They could continue on or maybe skip through to where Octavian takes over.

Second season is going ahead for release in 2007. It is about what happened immediatly after the assination of Julius Caesar and the story of how Caesar Augustus and Mark Antony won at the battle of philippi.

HBO spent all their money poisoning torrents and sending threatening letters, and couldn't afford to make the last couple of episodes?

lol 2007 release, that is so disappointing >.< they are probably waiting till Octavian starts growing facial hair since he's 18 when Caesar gets knocked off ;)

Anyway i thought having to wait 6 months for the next season of BSG was bad...

It took me ages to figure out where I'd see that kid before, until I realised it was the kid from Master and Commander that gets his arm chopped off.

Also how long do we have to wait for more Deadwood c*********s?

I believe it was meant to be 15-16 episodes, went considerably over budget being the most expensive TV series ever made, and got trimmed back 3-4 episodes.

EDIT: Actually i can't find any articles that agree with me so I must have made it up.

Are you really so retarded that you can't work out why?

Season 1 trimmed during production, thus all of the producers saw their millions of dollers going away.

Post release they have made buckets of money.

Season 2 of Rome my possibly be in jeopardy...

$100 million for that first season!, I thought Carnivale was bad with $4 Million per episode

But Carnivale was boring as bats***, no wonder it was cancelled.

Anyway, last ep of Rome was f***ing awesome I reckon. Everything just become very f***ed up and crashed down around the major players, except for Pollo, who ended up with the girl the lucky bastard. Speaking of her, she looked a bit like Scarlett Johannson, but a million times better.

I hope it doesn't get cancelled because it truly is an awesome show.

wtf??
That show didn't have a hell of a lot by way of special effects.

How much does Supernatural cost per ep then cause that Impala they drive must surely chew up the fuel - not to mention the cost of detailing it for every scene it's in, I mean, that thing can drive over a muddy road an NEVER gets dirty !!! (I'd buy that paint without a second thought)

I think it had to do with practically every scene in carnivale being shot on location somewhere, so they had to pack up all their s*** and move everywhere and transport cast and crew to the sets every day.

I loved the last episode too. I fully wasn't expecting Niobe to do what she did. Funny how the tables get turned for Pollo and Lucius Marinus. Sigh, March 2007 at LEAST..

Yeah, plus a lot of the country nowadays in America is completely different to what it was back then. So they used a lot of bluescreen type effects to get the proper feel of the dustbowl.

he was made out to be a prick in the last 3eps i think, but not big enough that i'd cheer when they stabbed him. Also was waiting for the "Et tu Brutus" line (which would probably make the scene become too cheesy).

Although, I'd be interested to hear a real historian speak about the authenticity of the series.

I watched the whole first season in 2 days last week.

I like the part where they fully understand a woman's true place in society .. in the kitchen and bedroom.

Also, I believe Khel was attracted to the golden turtle-holding man-wang.
