Found this rather interesting article:
http://www.unsw.edu.au/news/pad/articles/2004/aug/Solar_hydrogen.html
Now I can dream of an Australia that isnt held ransom to high oil prices.

The article is fairly old but its still cool. The idea of using solar power to crack water to give hydrogen is floating around more and more lately. I'd be a lot more interested if I could find out how much power could be generated from say 1000 litres of water, and how much power would be required to convert that 1000 litres into hydrogen.

we'll all be so shocked and amazed at all these new fuel cell/hydrogen technologies that come out just as the earth is running out of oil. give it another 50 years and this will be in every car

Yeah but 50 years ago they said we'd all be piloting flying cars by now... in reality we aren't for many reasons but the most obvious being: 1) Too costly and 2) people have trouble driving in 2 dimensions let alone 3.

my thoughts exactly cainer
cept i dont kno how long the oil will last for :)

but how about this idea;

instead of using your incar power(which most argue isnt enough) to split it, do it at home before you leave by using a 240v plug hooked up to a device in the car to do it?
