Yeah, another one. Getting my tax return shortly along with a big payout of annual leave and I'm looking at this beastie. I only really update my computer once every four years and do so in a big way, so I'm looking for longevity outta the system (hence the 7800 etc).

System Configuration:

* AMD Athlon 64 3200+ CPU Retail Socket 939
* ASUS A8N SLI S939 Motherboard
* 1GB Geil DDR400 PC3200 RAM
* 1.44M Floppy Disk Drive Black
* 160GB Western Digital 7200rpm 8M Serial ATA HDD
* BFG GeForce 7800GTX 256M PCI Express Video Card
* 17" BenQ FP71e+ 8ms TFT Monitor
* Antec SLK1650B Black Case with PS
* Microsoft Multimedia keyboard Black
* Microsoft Optical Wheel Mouse BLACK 2 button OEM
* LiteOn SOHW-1693S 16x DVD Writer
* Integrated Sound Card
* Zalman ZM-RS6F+M Surround Sound Headphones with Mic
* Integrated Network Connection

Toms hardware said it was great for gaming, along with some other random review (hardware hell or something). They gave it editor's choice.

Exo...I think you should have 2 HDDs in RAID, and then a 3rd big one just for general storage of pr0n etc in case one of the HDDs in the RAID array dies....you can never have too much space!

- Asus A8N sli Delux s939 MB
- 2gig Geil DDR400 PC3200 ram
- 2x 250gig WD HDD 7200rpm (Raided)

- Logitech Wireless Desktop MX 3100
- Logiteck Z-680 Speakers
- Clear Acrylic Case
- HDTV Tuner Card
- BFG 6800 ultra OC 512m PCI Express Video Card
- NetGear Wireless Network card 108mbs
- Sony DRU710a Dual Layer DVD burner

Tim, I got the Moniter, speakers, keboard/mouse wilreless card and HDTV card From Harvey Norman and the rest from computer Alliance
CA were the only ones at the time with the G/card and the CPU, also my
family has bought all our computers there and they have looked after us
hence not buying from umart or places that are usually cheaper...

A large payout of annual leave may adversly affect your TAX return if you go straight to another job. I found this out the hard way last year.

I got over RAID pretty quick, but someone suggested 2gb of RAM - I wouldn't have suggested that, had I not played the bf2 demo. I think 2gb of RAM is going to be a must soon :(

"Cause he is a n00b and shopped at harveynorman. so his machine prolly cost $5000 from a computer store :P"

I only got the moniter and things that i could get cheaper at HN, Harvey norman is the most expensive place to buy when it comes to individual PC hardware...I am getting another Graphics card latter i dont think its really needed atm

"u spent all that money and only got one 6800 ??????????? why"

y do i need it right now, i think that will be more then enough for now??

"rofl, wtf? CA has that listed at $1549???... and you were considering sli-ing them later on?

yeah CA has them for that much and i bought it for that much and i will be getting a second one.....things go down in price all the time, if a new ones cheaper latter on then thats life..

Yeah things go down in price, but your card will be worth less than half what you paid for it before you have even used it.
And as for getting a second one - a 7800 gtx seems to perform better than 6800's in sli, so why would you pour more money down that hole?

Mobo - 259
Ram - 395
CPU - 849
Vid - 815
Hd - 366
case - 200
PS - 199

TOTAL - 3083

these prices where pulled straight off a computer store in brisbane u can guess which one.

that leaves a lil over 5 grand to get ur monitor speakers keyboard and mouse and tv tuner. I guess they looked after really well.

A 32" LCD is going to be pretty f***ing pricey, I mean you could get an Apple 30" Cinema Display for $4,900. But seriously, why would you get a screen that big for gaming? You're never going to get a game to run at 2560 x 1600, so as it's not optimal resolution it's going to look like ass.

- 32" Samsung LCD 8ms

32 inch? 8ms? wtfbbq?

wouldnt that would be pretty unbearable for a computer? i mean most lcd's that size are WXGA which is like 1366x768? wouldn't that equal big f***ers of pixels? i mean would be awesome for games n s*** as long as u stood back, but for text the font would have to be so large to make it readable (and have to stand so far away) that the screen real estate would be null? (kind of like 640x480 on a 21' monitor?) Correct me if im wrong?

Hey exo, why not upgrade to 200GB? It only costs $14 more.

Another way to look at it is paying 11% more for a 25% increase in capacity.

I usually move up models until the cost increase to the next model/size can't be justified. This can easily be applied here :P

yes the moniter is 32" and it is 8 ms....Samsung LA32R51BX (As far as i know there is not fact sheet on the net, corret me if im wrong).....dont mistake it
for the LA32R51B as this model differs in resolution and has 12ms...i Got the monitor today i can post pics if u all would like...Interms of text etc. i jus put my bros PC into the moniter through XVGA and it was fine, when my system arives it will be pluged in through DVI.

I agree everyone has a point..i Could have got better and cheaper stuff if i shoped around and waited, but i havent and i get it all on Thursday or friday..
the moniter and all the left overs do make up the difference but keep in mind i got them very cheap.

Thanks for the good and the bad coments and i will post pics when i get it all..

what hes saying is....the brand spankin new 7800 (which is twice as fast as your 6800U...) is half the price of the 6800U that you just bought...and guess what, you can sli the 7800 later too...

so you couldve gotten a better card for half the price and still had the upgrade option later...

and on that note...i cant believe CA still have 6800U's for $1500....6800GTs are only ~$450-$550 now :S:S:S

edit - good system otherwise, donno if i could handle a 32" screen permanently, but damn would be good to try out for a few days ^_^ (wouldnt it be a shocker to lan with tho >.<)
