it came out on the 21st in the US which was probably why the authentication servers were being slammed last night.

It looks like it is officially released today in australia, since most stores are selling it and they got stock yesterday afternoon.

It's not that different from BF1942 imho.
I hope that this version will get some great mods because the mods really made the original battlefield better.

Don't you have to start a multiplay server to get co-op going and change the bot number and ratio?

Err guys, EA have stated that THERE IS NO COOP mode avaliable

What I'm asking is -
Has anyone been able to find a way to enable this...

If not, I'm gonna take it back cause I don't want to have another *online only* f***ing game...

If there's no co-op, then I aint gonna bother getting it either. Half the fun was getting a bunch of mates up against bots, especially if you didn't have enough players for a proper LAN.

What the dongs? No Co-op? Thats pathetic. What the f*** do game developers have against co-op these days? I mean its not like it'd be a whole lot of extra work for them, just give us the ability to start lan servers using the single player maps, everything is already in place to do that!

Maybe theres some shadow organisation out there, secretly paying off developers to leave co-op out of their games.

Also, even if it did work, you're limited to the 16 player maps used in single player =\

Hopefully with this great new scripting system they've built in (the one that they ban you for making mods with), someone will come up with a way to put proper co-op support in for all the maps.

Maybe they arnt putting any form of co-op in their games because no one else is and no one knows how to copy the idea yet. The games that do have it may not get a big enough response for it so it is forgotten. :D

After a bit of googling, it seems the justification for no co-op is that 90% of online Battlefield games are played in Conquest mode, so they didn't see the point. Of course, they're happily ignoring the fact that most co-op games happen on lan, not online.

$100 for a game, seriosuly if they priced games reasonably maybe they'd sell more and stop piracy

100,000 units at $50 is the same as only selling 50,000 at $100

understandably there is probably alot of people that need to be paid and people have spent long time developing the game and coding it and all that other s***, but still the people that get the biggest chunk of the pie are the ones that publish the game, not the f***ing ones that made/developed it

... it seems the justification for no co-op is that 90% of online Battlefield games are played in Conquest mode, so they didn't see the point.

Translation: People will hand over cash to buy their games whether or not co-op is included, so they "didn't see the point".

For some games, say Doom3/HL2, I understand that it might be difficult to hack on co-op, as single-player mode has many in-game scripted sequences and cutscenes that are designed to be viewed from only one viewpoint.

But for BF2, there is no excuse for lack of co-op. It can easily be implemented by writing up some server-config presets and allowing you to specify how many bots you want, to keep it simple.

f*** developers these days. Sure, they are probably under alot of financial pressure to spit a game out quickly, but still ... f*** paying for that kind of 'service'.

It already was implemented ... they actually had to remove features.

Yeah, as I understand it, everything is there to make a co-op mode, the only reason it doesn't have one is because they only bothered giving the bots pathing info for the 16 player maps. So all it would really require for it to be co-op is pathing info for the other maps, and a new game mode in the drop down box when you're creating a server that loads the single player maps as multiplayer maps with bots. I mean, I dont know how to do it myself, but you really wouldn't think that would be an incredible amount of work.

There isn't a co-op mode, but if you want to play 8/8 co-op you can still do the exact trick that I suggested last week.

Xyzzy and I just had a game vs bots and it worked fine. There where mods (or modding info) about how to increase the maximum number of bots in a game.

I wonder how much information Python has access to. It might be nice to play around with the AI logic a bit (the only thing I haven't dabbled in at uni).

Goddammit, noobs downstairs were leaving a s***load of filters on which prevented them from seeing the server..
It's all good people, Co-Op works in the same manner as in the demo

Noob flatmates =)

PS: Client Players cannot punish co-op host for TK's either =)
Host can still punish *grin*

Actually, had nothing to do with filters...
They were trying to find a LAN address through the browser and weren't doing what I said.. Only reason I didn't try it on another machine was that any other game is laggy as hell when someone else serves on a non dedicated machine (even with bigger systems believe it or not). Mebe it's cause I got 1.5Gb of dual channel happening and raid 0?

In their defence (the three that actually live here), when they aren't playing WoW (or before the gay game came out, they were pretty diehard CoD or Desert Combat and (during WoW server crashes) they return to the fold

Tis sad to see how the mighty have fallen :(

On the topic of co-op, had a bit of a dig around in the scripts for the missions tonight, and adding bots to the 32 and 64 player maps doesn't look too complicated, but the biggest hitch is adding in all the extra pathing info necessary for the bots to navigate the bigger versions of the maps (and also so they know where the flags and stuff are and can use proper strategies).

All the pathing nodes are defined using sets of 3d co-ordinates, but theres absolutely no reference as to where in the map the co-ordinates refer to. I was hoping there might be some kind of console command that would tell you your co-ordinates as you run around a map, because that at least would give you some way to know what co-ordinates to plug in for some new pathing nodes, but theres nothing like that I can find. Maybe when the mod tools come out there'll be a way to load in the maps that come with the game and get the co-ordinates needed, heres hoping.

Careful koopz, saying things like that might get AceTames shrinkage excited about something other than another mans body =)
Either way, we'll have to setup a decent LAN in the very near future - I'll let you know just as soon as we organise it
