Coles have been selling BBQ's for a while at $99. I was gonna get one a couple of weeks ago but since I didn't have a gas tank thingy I didn't bother. Anyway, went in to the Greenslopes Coles the other night and the price has now dropped to $59. So tonight I went and bought one.
I can't find a piccy of the exact model but I found one that is pretty close. http://www.members.optushome.com.au/gpahl/bbq.jpg Looks nearly identical to this, has three burners although 2/3 of the bbq is the grill while the rest is the normal hot plate thingy. Two burners are under the grill part plus the grill also has a cover thingy so you can close it over whatever you're cooking. The other part with the single burner is a flat plate and is left open. Haven't put it together yet although I've opened the box and it's pretty f***ing big. Gonna have to go out sometime Friday and get a gas cylinder and fire it up and see how it goes. So if you're after a cheap BBQ then check out Coles Greenslopes. Dunno if all of them are doing it but at $59 this is dirt cheap. |

you sound like a bbq n00b Rev :o)
So some advice... put it together well before you want to use it for the first time, turn all the burners on hot as hell and scrub the hot plates with salt, then oil it and keep it hot for ages and then wipe it down... if you don't, your first bbq will taste like iron filings. Also, that doesn't make the iron taste go away completely, just reduces it a bit... new bbq's suck the big one until they are broken in :o( |

Call me a n00b but what would the price of the bbq have to do with the price of eggs in china? (or the quality of steak it cooks)

Excellent steak is cooked on a grill, then baked. Not to say that you can't cook good steak on a bbq though.
Personally if I am doing steak myself at home I like it pan fried in butter, rather than bbq's... cultural thing I guess |

Call me a n00b but what would the price of the bbq have to do with the price of eggs in china? Why do people wear $300 shoes and $150 t-shirts? Answer that question and you have your answer |

I don't own a $150 t-shirt but I can answer the $300 shoe question.
its all about quality and howlong it will last. I have two pairs of $300+ shoes - 1 x Black RM Williams and 1 x Brown RM Williams. I wear either pair every day, and will do so for the next 20 years. My Dad got his pair of Brown ones for his 17th Birthday and his black ones for his 21st. He is 49 and he still wears either pair every day - thats why people wear $300 shoes. time to go to work, bye. |

Grosby, those who can buy a $1000k bbq will and they will justify it by saying the steak tastes better than if they had gotten a cheaper $500 ones.
To some people a bbq ia all about burning meat and eating it. To others it is about cooking meat and enjoying it. At the end of the day, just worry about your own backyard as we will never understand the workings of others :) |

Each to their own. I much prefer steak on the BBQ. We have a good one with a lid, so you just heat it right up with the lid down, chuck on your steaks 2 mins a side then pop the lid down. Cooks a perfect piece of meat.
PS... I dont think I've ever used the non-grill side. Maybe once when I had about 20 people over. Our BBQ is right outside our kitchen so everything else I tend to do in their. |

Bargain! Thanks for the tip Rev. I've been looking for a cheap BBQ to replace the one that's falling apart at home.
Let us know how it goes after you put it together - like whether there are bits missing/it looks like Homer's BBQ after it's assembled/how well the burners work etc. I'd always do the old beer & onions christening on a new hotplate. Chuck on a load of sliced up onion and pour some beer on as well. Let it burn in and sit over night. |
