Well for those who know me - i have been posted to a rural town out at bumf@#k nowhere as a teacher. I would like to take this opportunity to say that the majority of people in the bush are firetruckin' hillbillies and all they want to do is talk about piggin or roo shootin or bitches. i have not had an intelligent conversation for quite some time now and i almost got in a fight a week ago cause this bloke reckons i was looking at his girlfriend who was at least 120kgs!? I am confused. What did i do to deserve this? - and i am here for three years! I miss home and for all those QGL people i know - hello and please keep in contact. Clint... P.S. - id post a picture if i knew how? |

I have been here about two months. I am going on a golf holiday at easter and hopefully some other QGL boys will come up and see me and LAN like nothing else. Going here: http://www.fairwaysretreat.com.au/gallery.htm. Yeah man - the best they got is ISDN. - i would say that i know 6/10 things when it comes to pc's and i am fixing problems here - for beer of all things... and yes the pig shooting - how i love talking about that. some woman are fugly but some are drop dead gorgeous - but they are with the roo-shooters - CONCRETE i can lift it but not spell it!

Sounds entertaining. Now that you've taken the first step which is post it on the internet I think you should look at movie/tv series rights and getting a script together.
This has Australian drama (possibly romantic commedy) written all over it. |

And for your quoted hours, on a good day i am at school roughly around 7 and there until half 4. do you make your crust by quoting other peoples misinformation? ..!.. |

go work at ym dads school in china box.
you should have had a chat to the mrs when you were over before - she's a teacher and has so far managed to avoid country service, in fact she was recently made permanent at kenmore which is traditionally the hardest place to get for teachers <40 years old. |

whats the go.. do you have to do country service? or can i piss off to europe and teach over there? Yeah it's like Drs, you have to do 3 years country at some point in your teaching career. It's best to do it when you're young and have no ties (kids etc) and those who have done it have better placement oppertunities (depending on the band you've been teaching at, smaller the school the easier it is to transfer back out) Lots of teachers escape it tho', but i have heard of some who haven't done it just being drawn out of a hat when country schools are short on staff. I don't think I'd ever be a teacher.. unless I just did the degree and worked as a suplly ($40/h :D) I love my the job I'm doing at the moment. 6 hours a day, weekends and holidays off, secure job, no need to do country service. |

The more points you have the more weight you pull when it comes to getting the transfer you want. That said, the mrs friend recently got sent to Mackay for a 2 point school while Kenmore is a 1 point school - f*** going all the way up there for 1 mesly point extra per year. That said I think Palm Island and places like that are like 9 point schools :P |

I don't know what point my own is, we're a band 5, Kenmore is a band 9 :p but we're not out in the middle of no where.
I was told it was mandatory, but I must have received the wrong information! Although I do know of some teachers that have been transferred out due to lack of country numbers. |

i used to work in the transfer scheme as they call it for EQ's central office HR.
country service is eesential to making the whole system work. there is really no way around it but I can say that after 3 years in the middle of nowhere you are basically entitled to be transfered to a school in brisbane if that is where you want. and it would be no father than 50 mins drive from your home. i reckon the 3 years sacrifice is a good deal. job for life. no redundancy. pay always going up. access to professional development. totally insulated workplace - no global economy making your industry irrelevant. limited work pressure. public service super. totally politically correct bulls*** if you into that. i won't say teachers get it easy. it has s***ty parts to its job like everything else, but i have been a public servant as a performance monitor of teachers, i have worked in private sector performance monitoring teachers, and the gov jobs are far mpore sheltered. public teachers are allowed to be a lot more mediocre. if you wanna cruise on a nice salary State ed is the place to be. |

You earn twice the money and pay twice as much to live, you don't come off much better, but you'd get laid more with an aussie accent.

Also a lot of current teachers are reaching retirement age, being baby-boomers.
So they're trying to entice people into teaching and make it easier to get in. Hence the lack of good teachers these days |
