hopefully it's just a software issue - tried uninstalling the drivers and other Ati stuff and doing a fresh reinstall of the card? the manual for the card specifically states to ensure that other aps running in the background are disabled (ie antivirus software) during installation

hardware failure can affect your pc to the extent that you've mentioned, although thats a whole new can of worms

Have you got .Net framework 1.1 installed?

that happened to me and I had to format. I'm not kidding.

I think I found one catalyst version that would install and actually work, but it was old and far slower than what I wanted to use. Shat me too much, had to harry format.

Go to microsoft and download it from there. For that matter if you downloaded the ATI drivers from ATI they have a note saying "Must have .net framework installed" and a link directly to it.

And you shouldn't need to format, just run Catalyst Uninstaller "ATICimUn.exe" it's in the folder that the catalyst drivers expand to. It'll completely wipe any ati software off your PC so you can start clean.
