Its a reverse lookup telephone directory, instead of looking up the surname to find the persons number you can look up a phone number to find a persons address.
Not sure how legal it is, as the original one were shut down. |

Very cool.
Also think you have to put the area code as well before the number, well I did anyway and it worked fine. |

July 2004. So it's probably just a copy of DTMS's last release before Telstra threw the copyright law book at them.
There's nothing illegal about reverse phonebooks, but if you built yours by scanning in the white pages (or paying a bunch of Indians to type them in), then you've violated Telstra's copyright. last edited by natslovR at 16:32:51 18/Feb/05 |

Yep thats right, areacode then the number no spaces. I looked up a bunch of my friends and they all matched up fine as well as my number.

Its not working? I looked three phone numbers up with it then it asked for the password again and now it wont accept it.

In the end all you've got are numbers linked to names how the hell could telstra prove anything? |

well they did prove it, and it puts us at a contrast to US law, which says you need to do something creative to have copyright on it, not just assemble facts. So if they were based in the US, and selling the directory in the US they would've been fine. But telstra owns the copyright on the assembled data in the white and yellow pages, and if you type it in by hand, even in another country, you are still violating their copyright.

If you violate another countries copywrite when your country allows it, can you get busted by the other country without government approval?

Sounds odd to me.
I've always thought if you commit a crime in another country you are subject to their laws, or if you are a foreign national you also have the possibility to be extradited? |
