Premiering on Amazon.com, SA have some mirrors.
In true movie industry style, the Amazon version is a pathetic, crap quality Flash movie, so you might want to boycott and go straight to the SA link. |

Wow, apart from the start, that looks pretty different to the books.
I think I remember reading though that it is not supposed to be taken as an adaptation of the books, but rather a separate Hitchhikers story. The radio play, the books, the BBC mini series and now this are not all necessarily meant to tell the same story, they're all meant to stand alone on their own merits. Taken like that I think the movie could actually be pretty good, cos (well, from the trailer) the characters seem pretty cool and it seems to have the right spirit to it :) Oh, except one thing which really stands out, Zaphod Beeblebrox only has one head! last edited by Khel at 13:49:16 17/Feb/05 |

Looks very hollywood like. I think I would like it better if it had more of an english feel to it. That said it'll probably still be good.

Haha looks awesome. Please put in spoiler warnings if you are gonna talk too much about this because I haven't read the books or seen the original film. Also, it's got that hilarious dude from Galaxy Quest (GUY) who was also in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles;)
And I think they stole threedee's spaceship model for that pod thing;) |

I'm sorry, call me biased, but the whole americanisation thing totally ruined it for me. The voiceover "fram the bestselling authar af..." just seems well, bloody sacreligious to me (big HGG fan). From the clips,it seems like Arthur is the only character who's actually British. For me, HGG has always been a great example of British wit, satire and sense of the absurd. It just doesn't sound right coming out of a yanks mouth.
Also, i know it's to early to say with much authority, but it seems that it's made in a hollywod-blockbuster style (from all the action, explosions & one liners in the clip) which again, just doesn't seem right either. The book was driven by the dialogue and the narration from the guide. I will see it either way, but from what i have seen, it looks like a case of hollywood f***ing up another of my favourite stories. |

Having no prior knowledge about this film/novel i think it looks really cool, can't wait to see it I hear you girlfriend. I remember watching the show back in the early 80's but can't remember a single thing about it. We've got the DVD at work so I should really take it home and have a look. |

Ive known several people that were completely obsessed with the book and all were the most tragic definition of dorks, for that reason I think Ill find it hard to enjoy the movie as lame as that may seem.
I also thought the trailer seemed entirely british enough, reminiscent of red dwarf. |

I really liked the books, but I'm sure I'll enjoy the movie too. I'm not enough of a fanboy to really compare them that closely to each other, and the trailer does make it look pretty cool :)

marvin dosen't look depressed enough... infact he looks like a cute android in the show...Remember though, he's meant to be "Your plastic pal who's fun to be with". He's only depressed because of the "Genuine People Personalities" technology and because he has a brain the size of a planet and rarely gets to use it. last edited by Tael at 00:09:03 18/Feb/05 |

Looks like arse!
Ford Perfect played by token black man. Zaphod has 2 heads not a 2-story head. Marvin looks like a robot designed by apple computer... the iMarvin. "Dont leave home without it!" <- wtf is this bulls*** The tagline has always been " DoNt PaNic! " Generally americanised which is lame I cbf even d'ling it. I'll keep my memory of the books tied to the old BBC series with its excellent cast and witty dialogue. Who cares if the sets were made out of cardboard and bits of poo. 42 |

If you read through the books, it never specifically specifies whether Ford is black or white, so who cares? :P
As long as the spirit of the character is intact, does it really matter? Obviously if you look at this as a direct translation of the books you'll be disappointed. Instead, try looking at it as a movie in the same spirit as the books, thats how I'm approaching it, and I think thats how its meant to be approached because theres obviously no way they could cram 5 books into a 2 hour movie and theres scenes in the trailer that I dont remember being in any of the books. "Dont leave home without it!" <- wtf is this bulls*** Isn't "Dont Panic" whats written on the front? But you didn't even see the front so how do you know its been changed? Just because of a line that Ford says? He could be (and probably is by the sounds of it) just telling Arthur wtf it is. And in the original teaser trailer it uses the "Dont Panic" line anyway. I dunno, personally I'm really looking forward to it, it looks cool. Wasn't sure at first, but I watched the trailer a few more times, and I'm definately leaning towards cool. |

On the front cover of the Hitch Hikers Guide To The Galaxy (in the world) has 'Dont Panic' written in large red letters. It is mentioned several times in the books.
If you read the babble at the front of the 4 volume book it tells the story of how hitch hikers came about. It specifically says that the radio series, the screen play and the books are differnt, but similar. They were never ment to be exact copies. So to keep in the true spirit of Hitch Hikers the movie should be differnt, but similar as well.. |

Because I was bored I went and capped a screen from the bit where Arthur is reading the guide, that will maybe make people like slaps_forehead a little happier in their fanboyism. I circled the important bit cos the resolution is kinda s***ty on the movie, so its maybe not totally clear.
