This movie is definately a must see in theatres, some of the best cinematagraphy I've seen in a while. The acting is ok, the outfits are awesome.
Although there are some slow bits.........the old forbidden love thing.

But definately worth a look.

7.5 / 10

Does it have a lot of action in it? Cos the trailer makes it look like it has a lot of cool action.

Then again, the trailer for Hero made it out to be a big action movie and it wasn't.

there is not enough action scenes in the movie, however they do make up for the lack of fight scenes.
This movie absolutely s***s on hero in a big way!

Sorry, but I didn't really rate it. I mean I usually love these types of movies, but it kinda dragged for me. The acting was so-so, and it really was big cliches all round, esp the love scenes...puh-lease.
Action was ok, the scene in the bamboo was pretty cool, but in general the movie left me a bit like "who cares?"
The love story was too overdone and highschool drama class dramatic
Bah!

***potential spoiler*** saw this movie last weekend, one of my friends bought it on dvd.... i didn't mind it but i didn't think it was overly that great it dragged on a bit and i was expecting a big battle between the house of flying daggers and the government but it didn't happen. There was some quite nice visuals and decent fight scenes in it but nothing ground breaking, a few things i would have done differently. It's definately worth watching if your into those kinds of movies.

It really is a most awesome looking movie. Has a bunch of good action too. However, I also watched Steven Chow's kung fu hustle recently and that was so completely awesome I recomend you go pick that up first.

hero was Fu$#%ng s***! So boring, too much talk and s***... The woman in the movie died literally 5+ times man... Too much bs for my liking...

By what i'm reading in this thread, sounds like House Of Flying Daggers is no better!

'Hero' was awesome and this movie is looking good as well. I'm seeing it this afternoon so we'll see if it lives up to my expectations.

I think I didn't enjoy Hero because I was expecting some action packed Jet Li martial arts flick (at least, thats what the trailer promised me), and it totally didn't deliver in that regard.

I saw it at a friends house a few years ago and hadn't heard anything about it and I guess that helped.

Nope, Hero was released in HK in 2002 and dvd soon after. Western cinema release times just sucks balls for asian cinema.

maybe a bald boy/girl priest, a monkey with a flying cloud and a silly fish and pig guy would've made it better ?

Well said Cam.

Intellectually stimulating movies are becoming a rarity. Anyone got clerks on there top 10 list?

House of Flying Daggers was better than Hero, but Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is still the best. Anyone who thinks the acting in House of Flying Daggers wasn't awesome has some real f***ing issues... I'm almost certain you're saying that because you were spending all your pitiful energy reading the subtitles and have absolutely no understanding of foreign cultures. The actors in this movie make those jokers in hollywood look literally retarded.

Also, even if the acting was bad, I could just sit though hours on end of Zhang Zimou's cinematography - his films are just astonishingly beautiful - a real work of art as opposed to western chunder.

The action in this movie and the drama (love story) appealed me supprisingly enough. Definatly the type of movie that you take your women to because of the drama but you go see because of the action.

There wasnt one flaw in the fight scenes or special effects like there was in tiger hidden dragon and my only disapointment was that there wasnt a large scale battle seen between the daggers and the bamboo loving government.

One flaw in the CGI. The overshot of the 'forest' and them travelling on horseback down the path.

I mean, how pathetic was that!

I'm seeing this tomorrow with the internode guys. Looking forward to it. I thought Hero was great (saw it back when it was first released a couple years ago), in fact I thought it was better than Crouching Tiger.

NPS does indeed look awesome. It's hard to believe JC in Police Story is the same guy from Shanghai Noon/Rush Hour etc. He is still a cool martial artist, but he becomes a serious dramatic actor - and quite a good one.
