Just got a brochure from Telstra letting us know about their new DVD service. I can't be bothered typing it all out, so I just took a picture of the brochure.

Basically we have a free trial till the end of the month. You can select any DVD (over 12,000 movies) from their site and they will send them to you for free. Once you are done with it, you send it back (pre paid envolope) and then you can get another for free up until the end of the month.

The price after the month is $19.95 for 1 DVD at a time or
3 DVD's at a time for $36.95.

Keep it as long as you like.

Head over to http://www.bigpondmovies.com and use the promotion code fixedline

You will need a credit card, mind you they don't charge you.

Brochure is below.

Its not new, its been around for a year or so (maybe a bit less). It used to be called Fetchmemovies, but now they've renamed it.

Its pretty cool though, I was a member of it for a while. Its nice just having movies just turn up in your letterbox without having to expend any real effort.

you get your money back too right? If not then why the f*** not just go out and buy the dvd? Fcuk paying 20 bucks to hire a movie for "as long as you want".

My mate has been doing this for months now. It's an awesome service and he seems to think it's worth it.

Its a monthly fee, so you pay $36.95 a month and you can have up to 3 dvds out at a time, when you're finished with one, you send it back and get another one.

So if you got three dvds on the friday, watched them over the weekend, then sent them back on monday, you'd get 3 more a couple of days later. So depending on how many movies you watch, its actually really good value.

ahhh it wasn't worded correctly, coz I had the same impression as whoop - that you pay $19.95 to rent a dvd, but its 19.95 per month UNLIMITED dvd's (in essence) but you've gotta allow for postage time etc

$36.95 isn't too bad if you got out, say 10 dvd's - only $3.70 per dvd

cheaper the more you hire out

my local vid store rents ANY movie or game for $1 on tuesdays. but you would need to leave your house which obviously causes problems for all the agrophobes out there in internet land.

Video Sleazy has DVD Unlimited. $29.95 per month and you can hire out as many movies as you like. You can keep all movies for as long as you like while you're on the deal thingy, except for Premier New Releases which are the very latest movies to come out. You can only have four movies at any one time and a maximum of two new releases can be taken outta the four movies.

That is heaps better than Telstras deal.

Id be curious as to the turn around though...im guessing 3-4 days from them to you, another 3-4 sending them back, then they wont send the next lot til the returns get there.Going to the store is much better, especially if its like Rev's store with (dare i say it) all the hot honey bunnies who work there.

Dont you have to get up to post the f***er back anyway, thus defeating the point of "you dont have to get up"

Yeah they really need to sent along a butler who waits patiently at your door until you are ready to return the movies.

He/she can then run back to the distribution centre and prompty fetch your new list.

It's a good idea, sort of. I think it would really only appeal to the serious movie buff though as I think a lot of people hire videos as a spur of the moment thing, I know I do. So the delay in postage just wouldn't work for me.

Easier, but if you watch a lot of DVDs, not cheaper... although, Jim was telling me that he has a similar thing with his local video rental place - they pay $x / month and can basically just get out unlimited DVDs.

At the moment though, alot of video rental shops are running cheap Tuesdays, $2 or $1, that's pretty darn cheap.

It costs me $3/new release movie from the local video store...and it is like a 3 minute drive away. I've totally cut my hands of Telstra :p Local call, line rental, STD, mobile, ADSL .. all dealing through iiNet now. Dirty Telstra/Bigpond :]

Video Ezy's 'DVD unlimited' rules. Especially seeing as my brother pays for it and therefore I get unlimited free movies!

Is this unlimited thing available at every Video Ezy? And does it cover games too?

It doesn't cover anything else but DVD hires, unless the store wants to let people use it for VHS and games. We let people take VHS stuff as well.

My local vid store has 1$ Tuesdays. Unlimited number of DVD's and Games for ps2 and XBOX. New realease and old.

2 minutes by car and i'm there...

Comeon, you gotta get off yer arse sometimes in your life.
I found it really great to pay my bills on the internet, but when it comes to hiring movies out, i will spend the 15minutes getting a little excercise and getting away from the computer :)

$36/month??? fark that.. i'd rather add that money for more bandwidth or save it towards something...

Don't wanna get stuck in another contract.

normally only 2-3 working days from me sending a movie back and getting a new one in the mail

and its quite good value, for $20 you get around 4-6ish dvds a month (depending how many times/how fast you watch the movie) so thats around $4-5 a movie, and its all the latest dvds too but theres no pressure to have it back the next day like there is with rental stores - you can keep it a few extra days so mates can come round and watch it etc

all up - the first free month is defintely worth it...gives an idea on how many dvds you'll actually watch each month and whether the service will be worth it (ie - on the starting plan, 3 dvds at a time, you can get up to 30 dvds a month if you watch them all the day u get them and then send them back the next day) so even just using the free month to watch a few movies (or tv seasons/music dvds etc) that you normally wouldnt pay to watch might let you find a few good movies that ppl may not have paid much attention to

Video Sleazy is $29.95 a month unlimited. There's no way postage can beat going down to your local video store each day and watching what you want. 4-6ish movies a month is chicken feed to most people. People on DVD Unlimited are in at "least" 3 times a week getting 4 movies out at a time. The Telstra deal is ass compared to this.

but the telstra deal would be good if you lived rural. Or had no easy access to a local video store.
