Well after almost 6 yrs of suffering the slow speeds of 56k internet, ive just finished ordering bigpond unlimited cable. Its so good to be knowing that ill be ridding the slowness of dial-up and joining the broadband crew.

Although i have no complaints about the service of my 56k isp's (iprimus rocks) its just so good to know that i wont have to put up with connecting and all that crap. Hello to sifnificantly cheaper phone bills. Hehe, and free install rocks as well :D

Edit:
Of course I know cable doesn't go through the phone lines. By association I assume faster internet speeds go with ADSL (which does go through phone lines). Also I wanted to cast doubt on his attempts to get off dialup and since transmission loss is why I'm stuck on dialup that's why I said what I said.

Yes I feel like a noob and I will have to learn to read things more carefully to aviod this sort of thing in the future.

Thanks for making me feel like a noob Khel. It made my day.

its like my 3rd port or watever you want to call it in the house, seeing as we have 2 foxtel outlets in our house, one more and i woulda been stung $330 for an amplifier, which woulda sucked seeing as telstra are offering free install at the moment and thats pretty much the only reason why im getting cable ....

What gives Telstra the right/need to check your ownership of windows, exactly?

I'd understand if it was windows 95 and the CD was neccessary to install drivers/components...

Edit: Congratulations burgz on putting off installing cable when I've been fighting/waiting for broadband of any respectable kind for years.

Mad props.

Just tell them you're running Lunix, they look so similar nobody will know the difference.

actually i was running litestep at the time of my cable install, and i think i had to do everything for the guy

that might explain lack of asking for a cd?

hehe

they don't ask for a cd at all, I even had my legit, shiny, holographic cd all ready and waiting. I think that comment is just something that was around back in windows 98 days, and they just haven't gotten rid of it yet. It also might be in case you don't have something installed that they need. I'm not sure what happens if you have no NIC installed and then you install one, does windows ask for it's cd? I've never installed xp without a NIC already in the machine.

Anyway, if you have naughty stuff, or private stuff in your startmenu, you may want to hide it as the tech who installed mine went through the start menu to get to notepad & write some numbers down to email into HQ (download speeds and modem serial number if I remember correctly). No idea why he attatched them in a text file rather than just putting them in the email but that's what he did.

Probably best to use that time to pray for your mortal soul, considering how much porn you'll be getting once you get that email.

That's why the technician walked away from installing Imperials (who posts here) cable due to a lack of a legit windows xp cd?

i'd say the likely explanation for that is that this particular technichian was a f*****.

when i got optus in 2000 i didnt need the disc either, the guy even saiid 'ye cable is good, i download movies with it' <- so he wouldnt of cared if i had a pirated disc anyway Plus you can always bring up the argument 'my original got f***ed, LUCKY i made a backup'

otherwise you could say 'i dont want to risk damaging my original so i keep it packed away' <- but then they could ask to see it unlike with saying the original f***ed up

who are they to say that you are lieing?

and i think burgz and spoon are in love.. coz they bitch like a married couple ;p
