Hey, just wondering if anyone here has some good portable headphones they could recommend. I got an mp3 player for christmas, and it came with some of those small "bud" type headphones that sit in your ears, and apart from those types of heapdhones pissing me off the sound quality is pretty lame too.

I want to get a decent pair of headphones that fold up or something so I can chuck them in my bag and carry them round easily. I checked out headphones.com.au and found this pair, which looks pretty good (and they're a closed design too so I dont piss off the people around me), but their shop is closed until sometime in the new year anyway.

Anyone else have experiences with portable/fold-up headphones and have any recommendations?

They look alright, but I'd go the Koss KSC-50/55/75 instead for the better sound and cheaper price.

Screw the people around you :P

Yeah, I looked at the KSC-75, but it says its a "clipon" headphone, and I dont get that. What does it clip onto? The picture looks like you just get the two earpieces, but it has no frame, so I dont quite get how it works.

why do bud earphones annoy you? I had some once that I got free with a walkman, best pair of headphones ever. The bass response was insane, and they still kept crystal clear treble and voice response. Alas, loud listening fried them :(

Its just the design of them, they never feel comfortable and they always feel like they're on the verge of falling out of my ears.

So the clip-on ones clip over your ears? Anyone had first hand experience with those? Are they comfortable to wear?

All you girly-men with your fussy needs! Here's a real man sharing his Gameboy tunes with the world (photo taken by us at Earthcore 2003 in Melbourne):

the clip on ones are pretty annoying imo and you will be sharing your music.

i got a nice pair of Sennheiser earpieces from JB Hi Fi bout a month ago for less than $40. great sound and i have never felt like they were going to fall out.

if u want the big suckas that cover your ear, you can't go past Koss for pure quality.

don't get the ones that go behind your head either. I got myself some of those and they piss me off to no end, they keep slipping down the the plastic bit that holds the speakers digs into the top of my ear, and the sound goes all faint (feint?) because the speakers aren't sitting on my ears anymore.

I prefer 7.1 sound systems.

Sorry, that's right -- we're talking about portability.

i have bass-reflex in-ear earphones.

They have a little air-pipe that causes a distinct lack of deep bass should you cover it up.

I find it crazy.

That air pipe is probably the thing that saves your hearing.

What?

The best portable headphone for me would have to be those in-ear one (the one the goes right into your ear canal). I've got the cheapy from Sony (about $50 I think) and it's awesome.

Take a bit of getting use to but the sound is great and you don't have to turn the volume up so loud because once you've got it in your ear it's almost completely block the noise from the outside.

Dans data has a review of expensive Etymotic 'phone.
