Well, ive finally bought hl2...and installed it (after 3 hours of unlocking etc bs) and then it made me intsall and update or something ....now when i click "launch game" in steam ....it just doesnt do anything?

can someone pleaeseee help, i bought the bloody thing and now it doesnt work :(

Not sure dude. Might need latest video drivers or better yet, check out the steam forums. I bet other people prolly had the same problem.

Give us the full specs of your machine. How much ram, vid card etc...

Also when you aay, 'it just doesn't do anything'..what does it do?

crash to the desktop?, hardlock the machine?, BSOD?, Black screen?..any error message at all?

You might be having a refresh prob with your vid card and HL2. Right click on the game in the 'Play games' Steam menu, go to 'launch options and put in some basic res and refresh info. like:-

-fullscreen -width 640 -height 480 -refresh 60

See if that at least gets it running, then work up from there.

ALSO make absolutely sure you have ALL the game files, a few people over on the Steam forums had similar probs and discovered they only had about 94% of the full content. Close down and start up STeam a few times and see if it autoupdates HL2..

click on properties of a game and it tell you the % of the game you have.

its really f***ed this problem!

i have a XP 2800+
512 ddr400
GFX 5600

the problem is that when i go "launch game", it comes up with the launching dialogue and then just does nothing...no errors no nothing....

apparently its something to do with securom or something? Is there a way i can fix this ? someone pleeease help this is totally f***ed up (and format isnt an option)

Can you log into Steam?

Its a legit version of the game?

Have you ever had a non legit version on your machine..

Can you 'validate' the game files, something might be corrupt in the install.
