Is it just me or has all of this Halo 2 hype been for nothing. I got the game yesterday and it doesn't seem too special.. maybe I haven't gotten into it too far yet but it just seems plain.

You used to see that master chief guy everywhere, at the shops, at the footy, on websites everywhere. It was branded as "the best game ever to be released".. So far I don't think so..

Yeah I was thinking the same thing earlier. I wouldn't say it was "crap", but its definately nothing we haven't seen before. Seems like just an expansion to Halo rather than a sequel. However in saying that, I haven't played through very many levels yet....maybe I'm jumping the gun.

If you were watching 60 minutes quite a few weeks back they were talking about Hollywood and how gaming is bigger than it.

And you definately know what happens when ever anything gets compared to Hollywood. It usually gets sugar coated but has a nasty surprise inside.

i certainly wouldn't say it's crap, but it's not "the best game ever" thats for sure. hl2 is gonna own that title. having said that, it's certainly the best game on x-box so far, imo, a good story and so far no repeating of levels, and the live aspect is a blast, the maps are good, no lag, and the matchmaking works well, (if a little slow to load). im very happy with it, but your right it's not "the best game ever"
cheers

then when my mate brings the game into class and we all check it out, half of us waled out while he was playing it on the projector screen.
i mean, i might give ti a shot if it was on the pc, but i didnt like the first one much, i definately think Half Life2 is the way to go, fantastic game!

just finished it on legendary
havent played on any other difficulty... must say was challenging... specialy when jackals with sniper rifles take you out in 1 shot and you only have a split second to be outta their sights...

BUT... aside form being challenging i found the storyline average and the ending dissapointing, dont get me wrong decent ending but after all the hype..bit of a letdown..but... lets see how halo 3 will be... as judging by that ending.. guess theres gunna be a 3rd and im guessing "final"

any suggestions for storyline of halo 3?

So all of you would call bump mapping, normal mapping, xbox live, optimatching, etc etc.etc crap?

Did any of you know that Halo and Halo 2 is different from most other FPS in that the camera is dynamic - when normally the camera is central an dthe map rotates around it. HL1@2 do the exact opposite and move the camera thorugh the maps...

Ignorance is not bliss I guess.

Interesting some of you persisted with such a crap game to the end to fininsh it on the hardest level. - You guys must either have an awful lot of time and money to spend on a crap game...

Me, I have better things to do with my time than play crap video games and waste my money.

Ive got an idea for you - sell your xbox on ebay and stop wasting your money and our time with thoughtless, hollow comments on a technically brilliant and ENTERTAINING (yes remeber thats what is it supposed to be) game...nuff said..

hey i think most ppl mean bycrap is the same as i..it was a bit of a letdown...

repetition of storyline was the big one... i was expecting to be on earth kickn alien ass...
yet that lasted 2 lvls?

after those 2 lvls it was back to yet again stealing the index and shutting down halo....

nobody is sayign the graphics and stuff were s***ty, just that overall the game was a bit of a letdown.

and the map rotates/doesnt rotates... umm who cares? in the end where does the average user really benefit or care..

can he still jump on that barrel? with it rotating...yes..without? yes...

so um? pointless hey

Yeah well, hype is hype and it can kill any game. I was (actually, am) a huge Halo 1 fan and Halo 2, while awesome, didn't live up to its hype. Still a great game though. The single player and the plot won't receive nearly as much acclaim as Halo 1, (good AI if you have the guts to play on Legendary) but the multiplayer is as awesome as ever. Multiplayer is significantly different to Halo 1, not just a rehash, and the level design has stepped up another notch.
Anyway, will it compare to Half-life 2? Depends who you ask. Most people on the AusGamers sites are PC biased, and of course most of those will denounce Halo 2 and say Half-life 2 rules. I haven't (and likely won't for a few years) played Half-life 2, I'm sure it is fantastic. Halo 2 though is also a very good game.

Having not played Halo2, I'd just like to say after playing Hlaf Life 2, I know how you feel. Don't get me wrong, Half Life 2 is great and all, but I just read PC User gave it a 10/10. What a load, they obviously didn't have to scratch themeselves while they waited for it to authenticate, and didn't get shot while stuck in a doorway. Blah Blah Blah....Whinge whinge whinge.

I guess the point is: The games market is becoming the new film industry, and we'll have to put up with all the rubbish that goes with it (eg. I'm sick of hearing about The Incredibles, and it doesn't start for 3 more weeks)

i entirely agree with u, the gaming industry has become the new film industry

also i believe that halo2 is the greatest game.......to come out on xbox. because xbox is a gaming console you cannot purchase any hardware updates and hence the graphical power of an xbox is limited, with halo2 the graphics make the best use of the xbox and coupled with a great storyline is the greatest game for xbox.

another thing, because it is an xbox game it is a bit stupid trying to compare it to half life 2 because of the hardware differences between pc's and xbox's

Well I can't say that Halo 2 was the "best game of the year" but it had its good points. I thought graphics were excellent (for a console game) dual weilding and the ability to take over transportation were two of the best inplementaions this game. I have to say however it was hard to follow the story sometimes which was made even worse by the voice acting. I have a Bose Lifestyle 8 5.1 system and found it hard sometimes to understand what characters were saying during cut scenes (especially when the ORB was speaking). Anyone else experience this ?!?

I am currently playing HL2 and it is a great game so far (Chapter 8: Sandtraps). The whole apocalyptic city just takes my fancy.

Halo 2's single player campaign is rather dull. if it was just that, i'd probably give it around 88%. but the Live option extends the playability massively. it is both fun and addictive (not JUST addictive) and really makes Halo 2. if you don't have Live, then you won't even enjoy half the pleasures of Halo 2.
