another hacked account perhaps?
never know what to believe these days.

i hope its true, i loved HL1 and thought Valve have done a fairly good job in the past, especially suppporting the mod community.

would be good to see valve come out alive and kicking after all the crap that has plauged their second great title.

edit: *EDIT* read [Q]'s post, counter-strike on hl2 engine.

Actually. CS: Source is NOT CS2. They have said that numerous times. It is only a direct port to the source engine.

'Source' is the name of the engine that HL2 is based on.

guess it's time to start cacheing again.

So the silver & gold steam offerings you have to give your address so they can send you the physical stuff, or is it going to be a scan of the photos, and a follow the dots cutout for the cap that you'll print yourself :)

ravnos the half life source is for modders, it's the base of the game on the source engine it's there for the modders to modify it for themselves.

It's not that I don't respect your opinion, it's just that it's wrong.

if valve really did send an email to some fan-boy site instead of posting it officially on their website at the same time, then they really are complete f***wards!

Yay, now we know whats going to be in the box, I can sleep at night!

Awesome, they're releasing a 6 year old mod with some prettier graphics, that was worth the wait!

So when are Valve going to stop f***ing around making big announcements which basically amount to nothing, and releasing mods and making out its a big event? When are they going to release an actual game?

Its because they know that the other forums get more traffic than their own ;)

Ill be getting Steam Silver for sure.
Dod is an awesome mod, but i imagine it could be developed even further within the confines of the Source engine.

Started Preloading Yesterday, only 20% done :(**, i hope there wont be too much extra to download to start playing CSS once it is released on steam

Now I'm completely confused. Last I heard, the case between Valve and Vivendi meant that HL2 could not be released in any way, shape or form for...a while. (I doubted it would be March 2005)

If I see this correctly:

- I can't buy just HL2 - I have to pay for CS: Source, which I'd never play
- I can't buy HL2 on DVD if I just want the game and not the other "collector" stuff

- HL2 is on sale really really soon

Talk about a botched launch. :)

Last I read, Vivendi can hold the Final Release candidate for up to 6 months before being required to release it.

As far as I could gather there is/was a despute between Valve and Vivendi about Steam. It seems that Valve mislead Vivendi about releasing HL2 via steam in way that cuts Vivendi out of the picture. So in retaliation Vivendi threatended to hold HL2 for the full 6 months unless Valve dropped a court case that if won will allow them to release via steam.. I think.
However Valve know that Vivendi need the funds from the HL2 release and probably will hold out for a month or two then release it before christmas, as releasing it after christmas will potentially mean less money for both.

This thread has the most retarded replies ever.

* 'Source' is the name of their engine. Like 'Unreal Engine' or 'RenderWare' is to UT2k4 and GTA.

* It's been confirmed by the real Gabe, it isn't hacked.

* CS: Source is the multiplayer part of HL2

* HL: Source is just a port of the HL data to the Source engine, combined with physics, beefed up textures and some fancy water. It isn't (and doesn't) graphically hold up to HL2, but that's expected

* How the hell is HL2 a "mod"? If you don't want HL: Source and DoD: Source, then buy the Bronze version. As a bonus, you'll save yourself some money too.

* Valve have finished HL2. They gave the RC to Vivendi last week. It's purely up to Vivendi when they ship it, and if they are tossers they might just sit on it forever. Valve are doing what they can, which is release everything else in the package (multi) and wait until Vivendi say they can release it. It's not some conspiracy at Valve, they're done.

* You can't buy CS: Source separately, because it's free to all HL2 owners and the multiplayer component. It's like asking to separate HLDM from HL, and complaining when you can't.

Im betting that there will be a damn good chance they have considered it. It might happen with CS2 down the line but it definately sounds odd to water down HL2s initial release with it...

Half-Life 2
Counter-Strike: Source
Day Of Defeat: Source
Half-Life 1: Source

All that on DVD's would be perfect.
Don't want any of the other s***.

Doubt it'll happen.
