Anyone got any good suggestions for cheap holidays for over xmas?, for about a week, around $1000 per person for flight and accomm, and food if possible. Somewhere tropical maybe?

god what an open ended question .. try being specific about what you want to do ... anything from cairns, to camping at one of million places, to bali, to fiji, to new zealand, to diving for a week, to touring vineyards in nsw and vic to red center ...

well for an example me and my fiancee have booked our honeymoon through www.bestflights.com.au they have pretty good deals

destination: Hawaii
accomodation: 6days 5night in the Outrigger on Waikiki beach (www.outrigger.com i think, they are everywhere, in Surfers etc). Its like a 4/5 star
food: we have to buy all our food except breakfast, that is supplied.

Total cost for 2 people is: $1800

Apparantly they are launching Hawaiian Airlines and they did the prices as a special. Of course we had to buy flights to and from Sydney (from Gold Coast/Brisbane) so that added an extra few hundred.

Then there is spending money... but the deals are there, you just have to be on the lookout.

My fiancee's cousin is signed up to alot of travel mailing lists, and tells us when deals come up.

Cheers.

how many people do you have going, u could definately go to cairns or palm cove for that price easy especially if there is like 2 or 3 of you. go for a freebreaks deal at breakfree if its not on blockout during that time and you get a free holiday next year.

hell im goign to palm cove and cairns in november for 5 nights including tours and accom and a couple of meals and im only paying $142 YES THATS RIGHT $142 and no its not back packers im staying at 4.5 star hotels.

how did i get a deal like that. its called working in the Tourism industry. Industry rates are kick ass. i get 4 of my nights Free of charge as well as 2 tours (reef and kuranda) checking out another property in palm cove hopefully get to meet a celebrity chef while im at it and hell i might even go white water rafting if i can get it for cheap (rumour is $30 around work for staff).

join the industry cheap rates everywhere even overseas

*please note the above price does not include flights)

Nikoas I stayed there yeeears ago, was pretty nice from what I recall.

However we booked a 5 night layover on our way home from the USA, unforunately that included arriving at 10;30pm on day 1 and flying out at 3am on day 5.....

Your best bet it is to check out the virgin blue site and click on blue holidays under products.

There is some ripper deals in there

CLUB CROCODILE AIRLIE BEACH
7 Nights in a Standard Room, Continental Breakfast Daily, $50 room credit per room, Return Airport Transfers, and obviously flights
$659

spidz go talk to a travel agent. seriously dont book a honeymoon over the web. bad things can happen plus you prolly wont buy travel insurance which you SHOULD have.

but who wants to listen to the advice of a REAL travel agent these days.

i just saw the virgin newsletter... flights to fiji are 199 each way...

so 600 on a backpackers and food for a week would be pretty easy...

or do what i did for my last holiday...

hired a boat and sailed around the whitsundays for 10 days... if you get a big enough boat you can fit more ppl on and get it pretty cheap...

catch is you need to know how to sail

i'll buy travel insurance, I just don't want to be ripped off by a travel agent.

one of my best mates dads owns flight centre and I see how much cash he rakes in, so he's obviously ripping plenty of people off ;)

shame he won't do me a deal :/
