Just listening to this song and wondering what people thought John Lennon was singing about. I thought each verse were descriptions of various types of common personalities at the time, and how they should all Come Together. After a bit of googling to see if my opinion was shared, I was suprised to see quite a few interpretations of this song, ranging from it being about sexual climax to taking LSD, as some drug figurehead of the time had some sort of come together slogan to do with LSD or something, I don't remember. I also just noticed that the length of the song is 4:20, which is a common drug reference used famously in Pulp Fiction and explained here.

So what do you reckon he was on about?

a huge gay gangbang and all his boyfriends coming over him is the first thing that seriously comes to mind, which is quite disturbing...

I thought they were all (cept for Paul) over their extreme drug habbits by this stage. They all pretty much stopped using LSD soon after Sgt Peppers, or even before hand believe it or not. I have the only official Beatles Biography upstairs somewhere and read all about this sorta stuff. Also, there is a f***ing massive and equally awesome book out there that has every song ever written by the Beatles, and little stories about why there were written and what they were about etc etc. Pretty fkn cool but I can't remember much. I was waaay into the Beatles about 5 years ago.

Sgt Peppers was 67, you cant tell me that the White Album (68) and Yellow Submarine (69) aren't products of a drug enduced creative streak, mind you I am the Walrus of Magical Mystery Tour also (67) would have to up there with Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds for WFT are they own about, then there is the classic Revolution 9 of the white album you know "number 9, number 9, number 9" (personally I think the song stinks of Yoko Ono).

I can and I am telling you that;) They all turned to meditation. Paul I think still did drugs, but I am pretty sure George and John were fairly clean in the late 60's.

That song scares the s*** out of me, i think Yoko was giving us a short histroy of our planet (from analog to digital, and then the armageddon, and then weird blips and bloobs like aliens have taken over or something), go get f***ed up and give it a listen, number 9 numb the mind. I watched some dude on acid physicaly shaking in his shoes after listening to it.

Also "happiness is a warm gun" is about shooting heroin

I thought Lennon was quoted as saying that Happiness is a Warm Gun was about the what he thought was excessive gun advertising on TV.

Im not sure, ive allways suspected more than one meaning to their songs;

She's not a girl who misses much
Do do do do do do do do, oh yeah
She's well acquainted with the touch of the velvet hand
Like a lizard on a window pane

The man in the crowd with the multicoloured mirrors
On his hobnail boots
Lying with his eyes while his hands are busy
Working overtime
A soap impression of his wife which he ate
And donated to the National Trust

Down
I need a fix 'cause I'm going down
Down to the bits that I left uptown
I need a fix 'cause I'm going down

Mother Superior jump the gun
Mother Superior jump the gun
Mother Superior jump the gun
Mother Superior jump the gun
Mother Superior jump the gun
Mother Superior jump the gun

Happiness is a warm gun (Happiness bang, bang, shoot, shoot)
Happiness is a warm gun, mama (Happiness bang, bang, shoot, shoot)
When I hold you in my arms (Oo-oo oh yeah)
And I feel my finger on your trigger (Oo-oo oh yeah)
I know no one can do me no harm (Oo-oo oh yeah)
Because happiness is a warm gun, mama (Happiness bang, bang, shoot, shoot)
Happiness is a warm gun, yes it is (Happiness bang, bang, shoot, shoot)
Happiness is a warm, yes it is, gun (Happiness bang, bang, shoot, shoot)
Well, don't you know happiness is a warm gun, mama? (Happiness is a warm gun, yeah)

I dunno about 'Come Together' but 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds' is definitely about LSD... whether they were on it when they wrote it or produced it... who knows... probably only them. It's pretty funny how most people don't want to associate thier old rock gods with drugs... when that was what it was all about! Like Pink Floyd fan's that think Dark Side of the Moon wasn't a drug-induced masterpiece ;)
If they were 'meditating' they sure thought a lot about narcotics while trying to achieve zen ;D

^^^^^^^^

not sure if thats right.

According to the Beatles, one day in 1967, Lennon's son Julian came home from nursery school with a finger painting that he said was of his classmate, four-year-old named Lucy O'Donnell. Showing the artwork to his father, young Julian described the picture as "Lucy - in the sky with diamonds".

It wasn't drug indused as the band had previously seen the perils of LSD first hand with the demise(no he didn't die but suffered and still suffers from the physocological effects of over indulging in LSD) of their friend and fellow band member Syd Barrett in 1969.

PS Shine on You Crazy Diamond is a tribute to Barrett.

I know the words to Happiness is a Warm Gun :P

And yeh, I guess that makes sense and it is entirely possible that there's a double meaning.

heh, according to 'the beatles' eh?! surely they would just come straight out & say "no man. it was about all that illegal substance we all ingested like 60's maniac hippies!"... of course they wouldn't. of course they are going to deny illegal activity as much as is possible.
Julian must have been a talented kid! with a finger painting that inspired lyrics that describe the time dialation effect often experienced on LCD. All the lyrics seem pretty damn psychadelic to me, but hey, perhaps you are right! Maybe they were all clean honest British kids, in the 60's, pushing the psychadelic rock era, rocketting to fame & fortune but keeping those wholesome family values.

IMO lucy isnt LSD

Ringo (perhaps george, i dont remember exactly) says on the Anthology; 'everyone was saying l.i.t.s.w.d stood for LSD, which was absolute garbage' (or something to that effect)

dimo correct

and as for the person who said they wouldnt admit to illegal activity - they have countless times and dont give a f***
