Anyone been to the dentists or used any over-the-counter products to whiten their teeth?
Mine aren't that bad but I feel an urge to blind people when I smile. |

why not get breast implants whilst you're at it. If you want to look like most homeless people and have neon yellow teeth, that's your choice. last edited by Gol at 16:17:40 04/Jul/04 |

Dont use the colgate stuff, its craptacular. Apparently the macleans STRIPS are the best but Ive never tried 'em. I use this stuff and you just spray it in your mouth and hold for 1min and then done. It cost 40bucks.
You can get bleeched at the dentist but it costs a couple a hundred i think. |

Yeh I've done a TON of research on it. Apparantly it's very big in the states (Crest strips, Rembrandt Gel) but I'm having trouble finding someone who's actually used an Aussie product and had results.
That's basically what I'm looking for, testimonials. Should've mentioned that in my first post :> i R teh stuppid,. Edit: Morax, what are you using (gel, strips)? how succesful is it? where's it sold and for how much? Looks like 20 questions time. last edited by Gol at 16:29:31 04/Jul/04 last edited by Gol at 16:31:14 04/Jul/04 |

I got my teeth whitened at the dentist and used the take home whiteners.
They made my teeth weak and very sensitive to hot and cold. IMHO it isn't worth it. |

I can't remember what the dentist charged as my mum paid.
I got the whiteners from Coles and Such. |

My neighbour works at a Dentist ... pretty sure he said its like $700 to get ya teeth whitened (and its only like the front 6 teeth)
If it's that expensive, I don't know how "good" grocery store whitening can be... |

My neighbour works at a Dentist ... pretty sure he said its like $700 to get ya teeth whitened (and its only like the front 6 teeth)You can't compare the two prices as they are differennt procedures. IIRC, dentists can either bleach your teeth, or I believe they can organise 'laser' whitening of your teeth as well. Whereas the coles/woolies/maclean/colgate ones can be so cheap because they are mass produced and the most widely used. Unless you rely upon your image however, such as modeling and/or acting, then the cheaper one will probably do. |

Wouldnt dentist procedures be basically immediate effectiveness whereas the chemist products take a few weeks to see full effects/

Liquidpaper works a treat. Immediate effects and you'll never get your teeth whiter.

From all my research I've done, the store bought alternatives are equal too if not better than a US$300-$400 dentist whitening your teeth, but the problem is finding any of the products I've read about in Aus. I've tried but couldn't find any specifics, just similars.
Crest Mouth Strips: Work in 7 days, last 4-6months. Some have sensitive teeth side affect. Rembrandt gels: Work in 1 month, last forever (according to the people who used it) and have no side affects. Crest isn't sold in Aus I think cause it's not listed on their site, but Rembrandt I'm still hopeful of. If anyone has any experiences you're welcome to share. |

i used a whitening tooth paste for about 2 months, didnt make them any whiter, but its not like it really matters for me since they are basically white already, and when i talk i dont useually show much of them
best way to keep them white is by brushing regularly :), motivation is the key to brushing your teeth, i used to find motivational keys todo everything (eg, id pick out a chick id like to get with, and then improve on everything i do just to be worthy.. its a great motivator - i used to do 2-5km jogs every morning at 5am, brushed my teeth about 3 times a day, allways flossed.etc - it also helped in school tests and work aswell, improved my marks) edit: awwell, enough of my life story, i have no motivation anymore last edited by Jerry at 17:41:54 04/Jul/04 |

My teeth aren't that bad, have a slight yellow tinge equivalent to the green in the matrix movies.
But it pisses me off. |

Most the products which are over the counter only whiten your teeth by one or two shades, if they even work at all. If your really that desperate, talk to your dentist about it, for around $240 he/she will take impressions of your teeth and give you proper trays along with tubes which basically contain a certain percentage of hydrogen or carbamide peroxide which turns your teeth around 7 - 10 shades whiter and will make ur teeth uber white.. Downside to this is it dries ur enamal and ur teeth will ache for a few days as well as the whole hot and cold thing.

Don't use the toothepastes. The way they work is by erroding the enamel on your teeth. Most of the stains are contained in this layer, and by erroding that, it reveals the pearly white, actual tooth beneath. Downside? Well, your enamel is gone and what might cause serious decay over a few decades can now cause decay in a few years.

If you want white teeth, stop drinking coffee and coke, and stop smoking.
Or you could not be such a poser and just clean them like normal people. |

Soap is not clean, thats not how it works. |

Oh my god, do not even think about trying to get white teeth like the movie stars and famous people on TV.
As far as I remember, they're basically what I would consider fake, they're cleaned up and then they are plated (I forget what with and cbf searching) it costs a small fortune per tooth, but the end result is blinding white teeth, permanently. last edited by Loki at 14:14:59 05/Jul/04 |

Generally black people have naturally white teeth. Too bad you weren't born a black man.
I hardly drink coffee and coke, and never smoke. I dont brush regularly either but somehow my front teeth are always white. Back teeth however, are a different story. |

Everyone has naturally white teeth, I think it's just that black peoples teeth contrast more with their skin colour, and therefore stand out more than white people

Not all people get stained teeth from drinking coke, smoking, or whatever. Apparently if you have alot of medication as a child, your adult teeth can come through un-white or something, not sure if it's true or not but that's what I was told as the reason for mine when they first came through and weren't white ;p

Teeth aren't naturally white, get over it.
My sis used to be a dental nurse and apparently the whitening tooth pastes are bad as they are abrasive and make your tooth enamel thinner etc. Best thing imo would be a dentist who bleaches them, it doesn't cost $700 or whatever was quoted. Alls you need to do is call your local dentist and ask, they will tell you over the phone. |
