yea i just realised that too, but i think the chrysler was in the right because the other car probably wouldnt go through the intersection when that pedestrian was crossing. So the chrysler is in the right imo, but then again i dont have much of an idea.

well by the looks of it, the cars were all stopping .. so the one that kept going through the intersection was in the wrong.
note, the pedestrian could have possibly been crossing illegaly |

damn! it's hard to tell what the hell is going on - the first car seems like it is in the wrong yet the car that hits the guy has fair pace up and the guy is just leisurely walking across the street in front of the second car's path.
you would think that he would be trying to put more effort into getting across with a car coming at that pace....maybe that car was going along the inside lane and he thought he would be across enough for it...still that is one time he could have done with more effort into crossing quicker (assuming that he did not have right of way). very odd. |

It's hard to tell what's going on without seeing the lights. The cars that are arriving from the top look like they're slowing down for a red light but it's possible they're slowing down out of caution in anticipation of the accident since the car on the right of that pack stops kinda suddenly [you see it shudder].
The car coming in from the right is going pretty quick to slide that far after impact [and to not see/avoid the car flying in from the bottom], too. I think the car coming from the right went through the red light and the cars coming from the top slowed down either because they saw how fast he was coming and were being cautious, or they had an orange light because the car stopped at the bottom of the screen is about to turn. That would go along with the car that comes from the bottom still having a green light. In any case, ouch. Poor bugger was scrambling to get out of the way. edit: Also, it's highly likely the guy was walking leisurely across a big intersection while the walk light was red or flashing, given the action of the traffic. last edited by Fallen at 23:40:18 26/Jun/04 |

Holy s*** man. I dont know how you've got the guts to laugh at that. Pretty horrific if you ask me. No way in the world the guy woulda survived that.
Imagine what was going through his mind that split second he saw the car flying at him. He almost made it across the road too. |

trees in background look fake too, all swaying perfectly. meh i dunno. Edit: No one seems to be getting out of their cars to quickly either. Lights a swaying perfect. Suss if you ask me. it looks like they're not working, as someone else said. Maybe they're out for a storm or something so no one really knows whos turn it is to go. Still, whenever I walk across a road like that I always look in the direction cars are going to be comming at me from, I'd have started running LONG before then. That's kind of why I asked if it was some sort of advert. Either that guy has no road sense and is really stupid, or it was staged that way. If it's real I feel sorry for him though and hope is loved ones didn't have to watch that video.

It looks like an advertisement to me.
The way the overturned vehicle's lights flash as they line up with the camera, for the life of me I can't see the ped after he gets hit, very tv friendly, the way the car flips... What is a camera like that doing there at the intersection? Even the way the stationwagon has stopped over the line. I don't know, looks like someone was trying really hard to make it look like your typical intersection. Would explain why the lights dont work too. But I really don't know, where did the thread creator get the video, is car_owned.mpeg its original title? Oh btw, does anyone think the ped could of leaped over the car if he put everything into it? I think he could of just made it, even if the car still clipped him he would of come off better. last edited by clipto at 15:01:38 27/Jun/04 |

I don't know why you guys are bothered that people baselessly assume its fake. Assuming something is incorrect/wrong/fake until its proven otherwise is a cornerstone of our legal system, just about any scientific process worth its salt, and f*** knows whatever else.
Isnt there some rule that 99% of stuff on the internet is fake trash? I see something similar to that being thrown around this forum all the time. There was no time stamp on the video either, thats unusual. |

yeah, looks like the guy ran a red. In the uk, as soon as one set are red, the other is pretty much green. Looks like a US video tho. Cant rember what they where like there.
One thing tho... its a pretty high res video. I guess a red light cam would have high res but would it be filming and not just taking some snaps on a red light run? last edited by möoby at 18:19:50 28/Jun/04 |

In the uk, as soon as one set are red, the other is pretty much green Wouldn't it be wise to delay the green light at least 3 seconds after it turns red on the other set of lights ? Like what they do here in australia ? How stupid. An accident of that nature was bound to happen sooner or later. |

Are you stupid?
Wouldn't it be wise to delay the green light at least 5 seconds after it turns red on the other set of lights? Like what they do in Uzbekistan? An accident of that nature is bound to happen sooner or later without a 5 second delay you know. |

There's a difference between a 3 second delay and no delay. From what's been mentioned, that accident was a result of no delay after the red light, and the vehicle anticipating the green ran into the vechile running the red (or vice versa). Not many people would try and run through a red light 5 seconds after it turns red.

Not many people would try and run through a red light 5 seconds after it turns red. Agreed, thats why I suggested delaying the lights by that amount! You f***ing half twit. last edited by clipto at 20:08:47 28/Jun/04 |

0 second delay = accident 3 second delay = Would have prevented the accident 5 second delay = no need, there's the 3 second delay already in place... but if that's not long enough for you than wait another minute there just to be on the safe side. You f***ing quarter twit. |

I guess the time of delay is to reduce traffic. Also, the lights turn red+amber just before green. So you can anticipate a go.
The other thing to rember (well in london anyway) the average speed of traffic. I read an article today that the average speed of a major london road (forget which one) was about 5kms / hr. |

0 second delay = Higer chance of an accident. 3 second delay = Might statistically prevent more accidents. 5 second delay = Might statistically prevent more accidents still. 10 second delay = Perhaps EVEN MORE. The point, is there is going to be accidents on the road. Every so often people demand we go slower, wait longer, where does it end? Don't answer that, it was a rhetorical question. |

My point is: ANY DELAY IS BETTER THAN NO DELAY FFS. And my point is, a 5 second delay is "better" than a 3. See how silly it, and by extension your suggestion is? Also quit copy pastin my posts ! I thought copy/pasting your posts except changing a few numbers articulated my point really well. mate the 3 sec delay here makes a big difference with some of the knobs driving on the roads AND HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE YOU WILLING TO SACRIFICE ON OUR ROADS JUST SO YOU DONT HAVE TO WAIT AT THE LIGHTS FOR 2 EXTRA SECONDS? To reiterate, again, its dumb to increase waiting times, people will just keep wanting to increase them. When the lights are yellow, you stop or continue based on what is safe, when the lights are red, you stop, its simple. If people ignore them now, they will only be more prone to ignore them if we increase waiting times. im leaning towards it being real, who would waste their time making a fake and why would they bother. It would make a fantastic road safety add. |

When the lights are yellow, you stop or continue based on what is safe, when the lights are red, you stop Apparently over the past few months the police are supposed to have been more stringent in regards to running orange lights. Anyone copped that? I mean, the law always has been [as far as I know] if you have time and it's safe to slow down at an orange light you have to stop, but I've never really seen it enforced. Doesn't seem to stop people trying to run that orange light in its final nanosecond of illumination. |

Doesn't seem to stop people trying to run that orange light in its final nanosecond of illumination. Thats because we have a 3 second wait befor the other guys light turns green, so why not run it? But to answer your question I havent seen anything like you mention. 1/8 twit To avoid confusion, maybe you should edit in "I am a". Better yet, put it in your sig or make a new thread about your self appraisal. last edited by clipto at 21:24:25 28/Jun/04 |

To reiterate, again, its dumb to increase waiting times, people will just keep wanting to increase them. Then why do you keep harping on about 5 sec delays? Btw do you really think they would show something like that on TV? |

Then why do you keep harping on about 5 sec delays? Well you see, my posts were pretty much word for word the same as the other guys, its just that I had demanded even higher wait times with the exact same logic as his. It should of been obvious when I suggested 20 second wait times at the lights. Ideally this shows how nonsensical increasing wait times are. Btw do you really think they would show something like that on TV? Other ads shown already have seemed far more graphic don't you think? That being said I dunno, I have no single great reason why I doubt its real, just a skeptic sometimes I guess. + 1 vote for Australia already having 3 second delays. |

Look clipto i know what you're saying when you say "BUT WHERE DOES THE WAITING END !!"
But are you telling me if that traffic light system had actually implemented a delay (3 or 5 WHATEVER) than the accident STILL could NOT have been prevented ? how many fatalities do you expect to see on the road before you're convinced the THE DELAY IS GOOD ? Im sure if an accident such as that did happen to someone related to you then you'd be all for any delay no matter how long it would be. Besdies, go all the way down Cracknel rd until you hit the set of lights at Ipswich Rd and you'll find the delay is almost close to 5 seconds. Maybe more of the same accident did happen down there or something i dunno. If you're so caught about not willing to wait a few seconds than just never go through the same traffic light again. |

Dunno the other graphic ones I can think of off the top of my head are the reverse light and dark ones, but that sort of tones it down, this vid was pretty explicit, if from somewhat of a distance. Now I'm confused about the delay time 2,3 secs or inbetween? |

Someone time the lights next time they have to stop, i'm certain its 2 seconds. Also, apparently the reason for cracking down on yellow light runners is cause of all the people speeding up before they go through. Its safer to just roll over the line for a red than go caining through to grab the yellow.

But are you telling me if that traffic light system had actually implemented a delay (3 or 5 WHATEVER) than the accident STILL could NOT have been prevented ? AFAIK no one has definitively established the state of the lights in this video. At no point have I so much as alluded to if this particular accident could of been prevented, I (baselessly) doubt its even real. how many fatalities do you expect to see on the road before you're convinced the THE DELAY IS GOOD ? Im sure if an accident such as that did happen to someone related to you then you'd be all for any delay no matter how long it would be. This is why your argument sucks. I have said this exact same thing in this very thread, in the hope that you would be able to understand how stupid your justification for increasing wait times is, and you just don't get it. Answer me this, why don't we increase wait times for 20 seconds to save lives? |

What you wanna wait another 20 seconds until the light goes red again ? you'll never move off the mark.
Quoting myself: Wouldn't it be wise to delay the green light at least 3 seconds after it turns red on the other set of lights ? Like what they do here in australiaI was never talking about "increasing" the wait time here in australia but i was talking about the set of lights there in london or whereever it is saying they need introduce the delay there which could've prevented the accident. |

It would make a fantastic road safety add.Yeh, I am sure the government would screen a road safety ad where the lights (that they are responsible for) f*** up and cause a death. Perhaps they should sign you up clipto. |

What you wanna wait another 20 seconds until the light goes red again ? you'll never move off the mark. Your avoiding a really simple question. Instead of being red for everyone for 3 seconds, they would be red for 20, then green for whatever, then red for 20, how do you justify not having a 20 second wait if it will save lives? i was talking about the set of lights there in london or whereever it is saying they need introduce the delay there which could've prevented the accident. Paying attention to the stop lights (assuming they were working), would have prevented the accident, making sure there was no oncoming traffic would have prevented the accident. Increasing the delay of the green light from close to zero by three seconds could have too, but only because the car was passing through the intersection at that specific time, if he was 3 seconds later then theres no reason to believe he wouldn't of passed straight through anyway, knowing full well there was a 3 second delay. Furthermore, there only difference between a close to 0 delay and a 3 second delay is close to 3 seconds, theres no other difference. I don't know why you say "introduce" instead of "increase". Yeh, I am sure the government would screen a road safety ad where the lights (that they are responsible for) f*** up and cause a death. It would of been a practice run. But seriously they could have different angles showing the lights, or they could just edit it in later, I'm guessing the lights are in fact on, its just the angle of the camera. Perhaps they should sign you up clipto. I wouldn't of been able to resist the urge to leap over the car as I previously suggested, I mean really, how cool would that be? last edited by clipto at 23:21:21 28/Jun/04 |

well as a bike rider... i can tell you i never pass through an intersection without looking ... and i dun care what the colour of the light is...
ppl place there lives in the hands of lights or paint on a road... use your common sense... paint on a road or a light in the sky aint gonna save your life if someone has ignored it... natural selection at its best... |

Agreed, except about the natural selection bit, those cars could of been packed with brilliant passengers screaming "dont go through the lights!". Not to mention the pedestrian.

Instead of losing points for speeding your should get that amount in fingers cut off. Might teach people to slow down about.

That would work really well, seeing as they can put fingers back on later, but getting your points back is a bitch.

Its called a farking licence because you are deemed competent to drive. A pause between red and green is the same of what is expected of you when approaching a green light from afar and it is green all the way - it is called "stale green". No bulls*** excuses for running the red!!!

Its called a farking licence because you are deemed competent to drive. It's called a license because it designates you as being legally entitled to drive on the roads. Competency has nothing to do with why its called a license. A pause between red and green is the same of what is expected of you when approaching a green light from afar and it is green all the way - it is called "stale green". No bulls*** excuses for running the red!!! What the hell are you talking about? |

Interesting side note, to stop people running yellows in ACT there red light cameras also have speed cameras built in, so you try to race the yellow and get done for speeding....ingenious government revenue raising.
