Well I have finally finished my Car stereo for now :) it was my 19th birthday yesterday and I got A new headunit. (although its been in for a week)

All in all the stereo sounds so fking good its not funny. The fact that its in a hatchback also helps, Its extremly loud and the sound quality is crisp and clear. Its one of those stereos you can FEEL the bass rather then hear it. I have spent about $2.7k on it, although the retail of it all is about $3.7k (Owner of maroochycarsound is a family friend)
I thought I would share it with you all so here is whats in it and some pics.

basically whats in it (without specs):
2 x 12" Eclipse Subs
Fusion 2 channel amp for subs
Eclipse 4 channel amp for speakers
Panasonic Headunit with works
5 1/4" Eclipse Coaxial speakers in the back
Fusion 4" Component speakers in the front
Fusion bass controller
phoenix gold wiring etc..

PICS:

The car:

And Finally the overview from behind the car:

If anyone else has any sound systems in their car please post them! I'd Be interested to see anyone elses systems!

No it doesn't rattle. only the number plates did, I siliconed them so thats not a problem anymore.
I got all my stuff from maroochy carsound except for the headunit which I got at wow car audio, because my brother knows the owner of it and got it for me.

I made the box myself, and its alot better then what you will find in car audio shops, its made to the specificly for those subs (1 and a half cubic foot of air behind each) and 12" of 4" pipe for the ports, carpeted it myself etc. All the holes joins are lined with silicon aswell.

I bought the stereo because I can just move it on to the next car and the next car after that. I just love good stereos so I bought it straight away. The car is great atm it uses hardly any petrol and thats what I need atm because im saving!

I'll post a picture of my stereo's later when I cbf going outside (which will be in about an hour when I venture out on a little journey down the road).

VR: Pioneer Head unit
no amps
4 x stock holden speakers

TD (gemini): Pionner head unit (older model than the VR's)
Kicker 300.4 (I think) amp bridged into 1 to run the 12" V-NET sub in the boot
Supercheap front 3way speakers

ph34r teh cheap setups, head unit probably cost more than all the speakers in the gemini put together lol.

I've got 4 speakers + some random Pioneer deck.

Car audio sucks, it weighs too much.

I've been toying with the idea of stripping my interior trim, but I haven't decided :/

Also Asta: if you don't already have a big fug-off alarm system, get one. Thieves are going to want that system :(

Nice system :D I've got a JVC mp3 headunit, very nice considering I paid 330 for it, with 50 free CDRs :p And two 4" Sony's in the front that were already in the car when I bought it, hehe. If it has rear speakers, they sure as hell don't work :p

Post a piccy of the time sheet.

You do realise that the new Monaro GTS 330kw does a high 13.

A factory RS6 for a high 12 @ 337kw and $220

How does a 220-250kw car that weighs about the same do 12's and 13's.

To all the 12sec cars on this forum, show me the time sheet!

My 110kw 300kg bike + 100kg of me manages 12.3's I doubt your cars have the same power to weight.

PS: Fricken nice stero man.

12's arent all that insane for a modded car, considering mine ran 13.3 out of the box, and trust me i almost fell asleep waiting for it to cross the line it felt that slow

dont underestimate the liners gumby, they cost more then s13's for a reason you know

edit* my last 33 gtst had 200rwkw and ran 13.3, and that was still with the factory turbo and ecu, just a few bolt on mods like cooler+exhaust really.

13.3 out of the box, what is it?

A 10 year old Skyline at factory release (= fresh engine) was probably capable of 14's. Untill you take it to to Willow and show me the time sheet I will be sceptical.

Sub 14 sec 1/4 mile as officated by Willowbank, sure with a huge tail wind you can get a .5sec assist but be real. If you modified they what mods. I've been on the car scene for 20 years and if I had just $1 for every 13sec car that couldn't I would own my RS6 dream car by now.

Mines a 95 model R33 GT-R

The first weekend I had the car i took it out there, if you really dont believe me I got the timesheet right here.

In the near future ill be using a new ecu, hks turbos, few other goodies and will easily be running 11's, and its an easy daily driver

Gumby: burt has posted his 13.3 timeslip for the GTS-T before.

My car would undoubtedly be a (high) 13 second vehicle as it stands, provided someone other than me was driving :P I got 16.027 on my first run ever, and my god was it a schmozzel hehe :D

Anyway for anyone interested, this is my Silvia project thread at OCAU:

I'm not doubting that a modified anything will do 13's, very few factory cars under 100k do 13's.

What is the adjusted time on the time sheet, the +/- wind factor?

here is a AutoSpeed article on the R32 GTS-T in it they state they think it would crack the 15sec mark, bit different to a sub 14sec. Mind you it is a R32, and I know they make huge improvements with th 33's.
http://www.autospeed.com/cms/A_0853/article.html?popularArticle

I'd link other articles but you need to register and pay money. These are real journo's that if anything understate performance long before overstating it.

http://www.jbskyline.net/R33/Sedans/Specs/
They say 14.3 for a stocker.

http://www.japanperformancedirect.com.au/nissan_skyline.htm
Also 14 for a GTS, mind you GTR is 13's which blows my 100k theory.

Ok this is why I'm a Doubting Thomas, in 1991/92 I owned a Brock VK Special which had a worked 308/stroked 330 with racing 327 heads and a s*** load of other work done to it, I broght it of a mate, it Dyno'd 500 at the wheels. With a strengthened 4 speed box (can't remember the brand, pretty shore it was a borg warner) which was high geared cause it was a 4, I could manage 14.1 constantly due to the gearing never bothere to change ratios cause it was already a pig to drive around town.

During the street meets at willow anyone runing a 12 was then unable to run until a roll cage was fitted for saftey reasons. Most of the turbo Skylines at the time (there wasn't too many then) would be beaten, although there was one that kick serious arse.

The most amazing car at the time was a mazda 323 rear wheel drive 1978/9 model that had some maxed out rotary in it doing low 12's.

I'm not into boy toys anymore and haven't been out their for a street meet in eons, I just find it hard to believe that a 20k secondhand 10+ year cars are doing 13's out of the box, I hope you understand my scepticism.

12 second 1/4 mile is insane for a road car. The skyline I went in a few days ago does low 12's and is very capable of doing 11's. It probably does 11's now actually lol. Has something like 340rwkw's.

I understand your scepticism, but I think the 20 years racing experience you have is from the 1970's

Dont believe everything you read. R32 GT-R's are claimed to be able to run 12.9 as alot of magazines/stats state, and they are able to be picked up from auctions in japan for <$10k in some instances if you want to do things the long way

I ran my 33 in the middle of summer, a 32 is a much lighter car, and if ran in cooler weather I would bet money it could make a 12 second pass stock.

Times have changed dood, dont underestimate these $10k jap turbo cars

As for the wind resistance, are you for real?

Proper timing will have a wind factor calcultaed into it allowing for head and tail wind, it will give you an adjusted time, it the wind is above a certain speed the time will be recorded but will unable to be used for record.

gumby, get out there for another Test & Tune. You will see plenty of 13 second S13s, Skylines, RX7's, etc.

These are all mid 14 second cars stock. An exhaust, front-mount cooler, air filter, and upped boost will see them ALL doing (high) 13s provided the driver does a good job.

This is why Jap import turbos are so popular dude...

I'm not doubting that a modified car would run 13's and as I said previously GTR's seem to all do 13's stock. My mistake. I just find it hard that a 10+ year old "stock" car will be as fast if not faster than times recorded against the same car when they where new.

As you aluded to these have been modified.

I understand your scepticism, but I think the 20 years racing experience you have is from the 1970's
No 80's and it was mainly bikes, I went to a dozen or so street meets in 91-93 with car and bike. Yes I'm not up on the "turbo" caze of today, but a few mates are still playing with S13 and a S15 (the last Sliva what ever its called) and a plague of WRX's (one's an Evo6), all fast cars all are stock bar the S13 which is the slowest. I doubt any of these cars stock do 13's but perhaps we might find out.

You know, what is so cool about owning an r33 skyline...

We have become so materialistic, thinking we need to get a sweet car. when in reality, we must realise we have to give back to the community. We need to realise love is a far more expensive vehicle.

nah loki your headunit is different to mine :P mines the top of the range panasonic goes for $730-$830 (depends where you go) yours goes for around $500 at JB-HiFi

they look pretty much identical though but mine has a few extras.

Yeah I missed the closeup of your unit and noticed a few differences after I posted =)

I got mine mainly for the chrome (lots of chrome on the old torry so it suits the style).

Any ideas on the differnces between the two?
I think yours has those little animations on it?
I (personally) couldnt see the point of spending extra $$ for some 3 or 4 10 sec animations playing over and over.
But if I had the money I would have gotten the top of the line one :)

Needless to say, its never in the car if I'm not in it and its stored in its case, you should remember to do the same for yours.

Nice setup though :)

yeh i always keep it with me, mine has 3 x RCA outputs (think yours has 2), subcontrol, 5v preout (think yours is 3.2), aux input remote and animations / movies.

and im getting an alarm system installed this week. whoever it was that gave it 2 months before half of it was flogged.. well I have had most of it for a good 6months and nothing has happened yet. Remember I don't live in brisbane, Trust me if It got stollen in caloundra I would be able to find out who did it. :)

My unit has the remote and subcontrol as well, although my remote got run over by a VN at a party as I dropped it =(, amazingly it still works... kinda, the circuit board is cracked or something cause if you bend it right, it works perfectly :P

Either way, couldn't give a s***, its easier to use the headunit itself than the remote anyway, except for skipping folders on mp3's. which I found the easiest solution was to just hit random until it chose a nearby number to the folder you want and then change from there...
heh.

What sort of animations/movies does it have?

only a little bit kicked in by inheritance? you think any 18 year old kid can save up $80k to spend on their car?

if you have $80k you buy a house, not throw it into a $20k car to make the car worth maybe $25k when u go to sell it in a few years

The Volvo is unfortunately long gone, been driving a Pulsar for like 2 years now. People shouldn't argue about cars cos A) most people think they know things but really don't know s*** and B) 99% of people are completely imcompetent drivers and have no skills with which to rate a car.

It's funny, because while I am not sure about ditch, you are totally dismissing the comments of people who actually have experience in buying imported cars.

Perhaps you should also import more buckets of sand to bury your head into.

And for the record, I have no comment on your gtr, I think it is cool. It just seems silly to ignore the sentiments of people who know what they are talking about.

Go buy an MP3 head unit - $300 ffs! If you can afford a 10K car, you can afford that! For another couple hundred you would have decent speakers (they'd be spankloads better than what you have)! But yer, who really cares about car, as long as its not an Excel cos only total fags drive those, thems da facts; beleedat!

Well Actually Burt since you have no clue, it was invited to Torana Nationals as a contender for the most original in best condition SL/R with a high chance of walking away with a trophy.

Secondly, SL/R 3300's are becomming rare as all f*** because everyone is butchering them with V8's, one in my condition is rarer than an SL/R 5000 in original/mint condition.

Its a collectors item and is increasing in value...
Even after rebuilding half the LHS to it, it's still increasing in value and the rebuild means jack s*** with all matching numbers and the rest of the car being original/mint.

The difference is Torana's have a huge history with alot of love for Torana's, your skyrice is a depreciating piece of plastic s*** with no Aussie history, no backing and just goes VROOM. Which in any case, I could make my car as fast as yours for a fraction of the price anyway.

Its simple really, all your car has is 'it goes fast weeeee', which any car can do with the money spent on it.

Depreciating Rice Box Vs. Appreciating Old Collectable Classic..

Yep, in 30 years I can see how yours would be worth more than mine.... not.
Deal with it, your car is nice adn goes fast, but it's nothing 'special' like you crack it out to be, its just another skyline.

You lose, Go directly to the corner and cry d*******, Do not pass go, Do not collect $200.

Yes, completely wrong.
I don't see Skyrice's being called collectors items.

Orbitor, A s***box Torana might be worth $200, but I could sell mine off for $6k+ to a collector easily.

That's pretty good considering they weren't worth that new (even after considering inflation), that price is only going higher and higher every year as more Torana's are wrecked, original ones butchered, and they get older.

If you can't see that antiques whether it be furtniture or cars are worth alot, you've been living under a rock your entire life.

But you know, old Cadillacs as an example only fetch $60k+ for no reason at all..

Spook needs to just stop wanking over his four door skyline and defending it, because the point wasn't whether Skylines are better than Torana's.
Fact of the matter is, they are better, they're faster and handle better.
Still nothing $$ thrown at the Torana can't fix (Maybe to not the same standard in handling but as far as speed goes we all know any car can be turned into a dragster).

I said they looked nice, they're depreciating in value though.
The point was, since you missed it.
That Burt's skyline is just 'another skyline', it's nothing special that he makes it out to be.

Special != fast and expensive factory dealer price

Personal opinion, but id rather go fast and have fun now, rather than have a mint condition classic that I cant risk bumping/scratching/modifying.

I could make my car as fast as yours for a fraction of the price anyway.

it was invited to Torana Nationals as a contender for the most original in best condition SL/R with a high chance of walking away with a trophy.

woopty f***in doo... and you walked away with nothing right?

GTR's dont have no racing history? e.g owning holdens and fords in bathurst or anything crazy like that?

I could make my car as fast as yours for a fraction of the price anyway

I dare you to try.. no seriously

Yep, in 30 years I can see how yours would be worth more than mine

In 30 years my car wont have rusted out to nothing.

you say your car's worth $6k? ass. youd be lucky to get a couple hundred no matter how classic (read: rusted) it is. what you going to do with the $6000, retire and live overseas?

also orbitor that was a classic

You clearly know nothing about Torana's Burt, and it shows.
My SL/R has no rust in it, so I have no idea what you're talking about, secondly.

It's called a new 202 and gearbox and stash the originals away in plastic (thus keep matching numbers).

A new 202 in working order costs about $100, a heavily modified 202 fetches under $1k.
A Heavily modified 202 with the right setup will flog a mild 308 or 355.

202 with Ford 450 Crane Cam, Sleeved, bores out easily over 120 thou I know that for a fact, I've also heard with the right setup and the 450 cam you can get these out to over 265ci (supposedly - but I'm skeptical, then again I've heard of 308's making it out to 355+ odds).
With Triple SU carbies and extractors every cylinder has its own set of lungs, both intake of fuel and exhaust.
Build the engine to bathurst spec and it's going to be going pretty friggin fast for a N/A car.

Have it setup so it can take a turbo or supercharger and I don't know how you'd control it.

Even without the Turbo/Supercharger, it's certainly going to be fast enough to have 'fun' with, and it'll sping through every gear without a problem.

Don't see what fun you need..
Keep tossing burt, you're kidding yourself if you think you could put your car next to an old 70's classic Aussie or American muscle car and get more attention.

Keep trying Burt, pretty soon you'll realise yours is depreciating in value while mine is appreciating.

It hasn't quite clicked yet that yours is still in production and mine isn't, making mine rarer, what happens to things when they become rare? they become worth more.

Oh wait, you havent' caught onto this concept of antiques and collectables yet have you?
I could print off billions of dollars in money, but then what would it be worth? nothing, economy would fall to s*** because there is too much money.

Has it clicked yet? its the same thing with your car.

it'll sping through every gear without a problem

wow traction problems, that must be fun, you would get some decent times while sitting in the one spot spinning! oh.. but it looks tough, right?

It hasn't quite clicked yet that yours is still in production and mine isn't, making mine rarer, what happens to things when they become rare? they become worth more.

It obviously hasnt clicked that GTR's (or any skyline for that matter) arent in production anymore either moron.

Hold on burt, maybe you like to work with figures, maybe that's how your ignorance works.

If there's 350,000 skylines in Australia at this very moment, what makes yours so special? there's another 259,999 just like it, maybe all of those aren't in perfect condition, and that makes yours worth more than theres, but with 259,999 other skylines out there, its guaranteed there will be one, if not more in just as good, if not better condition than yours, including those that just drove off the factory floor.

Now, if there are only 90,000 Torana's in Australia at present, which have been around for 30 years and aren't walking off the showroom floor, chances are alot of those have been butchered with modifications, written off, thrashed and s***heaps etc. etc. or suffered the effects of age.
Now, the chances of finding one in mint condition, straight body, original down to the carpet and ball joints with matching numbers is a much more difficult task than finding your Skyline with the same s***.

Yours has more technological s*** that makes it worth more, but the fact is, I buy my Torana at $4k, and in 30 years sell it for $30k, you buy your Skyrice for $40k and in 30 years sell it for $6k.
I'm still seeing a difference here...
ok, more numbers.

In 30 years assume half the Torana's are gone, that leaves 45,000 odd left, again, alot rarer to be seen on the road, for sale, and once again, ones in excellenct/mint condition are going to be even rarer, now if 30,000 of those are replica's and rebuilds that leaves only 10,000 originals (which there are probably actually fewer of but hey this is hypothetical), what does this mean for price? it goes up.
Why? because its rare, people want what other people don't have so they can be different.

Now, what happens if those numbers are lower, say there's only 3 or 4 Torana's left in Australia in total that are in original condition with matching numbers like off the showroom floor, and then only a few hundred/thousand more which are replica's/rebuilds.

It pushes the price even further up.
The chances of me owning the last remaining Torana in Australia is far greater than you owning the last GTR Skyrice is Australia...

But you know, being the person you are, can't handle facts that your just another jock driving 'just another skyline'.
And yep, I'm driving 'just another Torana', only mines original.

And FYI, Torana Nationals hasn't even been held yet, tard.

Well alright Burt, I can show you where to find a 202 that's been heavily modified that was thrown into a Torana, it was in there for less than a week before they pulled it out because it was too much to handle, it now resides in plastic in a garage.

On slicks you aren't going to have traction problems.
And seeing as that's the only place you REALLY should be using such excessive speed and power, it doesn't matter, right?

I've seen LH's run in the low 12's with just a mild 202 and Turbo, but anything will move with a turbo on it.

I've also seen LH's run 8's with a heavily modded 355.

Anything can be turned into a dragster *cue dragster bus*.
Which is my point exactly.

AFAIK the XU-1's which are bathurst spec Triple Stromburg carbs run 14's, Naturally Aspirated.
Not bad for a 30 year old car naturally aspirated as far as I'm concerned, then you can get bolt on Turbo's anyway.

you rely so heavily on keeping your car for 30 years and so original, yet you drive it around as a daily driver yes?

you think in those 30 years your not going to have one mishap or someone isnt goin to go crashin into your beautiful original car.

My comment was just for comedy value.

Nothing wrong with a decent Torana, if that's what you're into.

But let's face it, they're only worth money cause they're rare, old, and have a racing heritage, because other than that they're just obsolete and even a $15K Korean buzzbox will be a more reliable and luxurious vehicle.

I never said I was going to retire on my car?
I intend to hand to keep it and hand it down, therefore I dont really give a f*** what it's worth in years to come.

I'll give my kid a piece of history, a piece of my childhood/teen history and a rare car which you dont see too many of around the streets in GOOD Condition..

oops, brought that rare thing up again.

Also, Burt, my car was driven around
Australia towing a caravan by an 80 year old guy, its been completely rust proofed and well looked after...

My Point? even as a daily driver for an 80 year old guy, it still looked mint condition the day I bought it (the original carpet is f***ing up a bit now thanks to some passengers, but carpet is hardly anything anybody expects to be kept perfect off the factory floor)...
Oh yeah, and the carpet is actually pretty f***in clean for a 30 year old daily driver..

If taken care off, driving daily doesnt mean s***, only a bad thing if you push a rod through the side of the original engine block or something similarly stupid.
And where do I drive to Burt?
3 minutes to work and back, then it sits in a garage, it gets driven to Harry's Diner on Friday nights every so often, then garaged.
Occasionally to VC's house where it'll sit out on the driveway.

I have uni to attend which means I catch the train, it also means I dont have muh money to go out (and thus drive around) alot...
My car averages maybe 5k a day tops, comapred to yours???

oops, sorry, you lose again?

Basically sums it up.

rare, old, racing hertiage, that's what makes them.
They're reliable enough if looked after, seriously, only 'broken down' twice, once was my old man's fault and costed $0 to fix.
And the other time was a piece of plastic that cost $4 to replace (and snapping the gear rod itself was my fault so cant blame the car), toher than that, water pump ~$20 and starter motor ~$129, in four years, that's not bad.

Oh yeah, and clutch/tyres but they were f***ed when I got em, and the new clutch is a POS, which is again my fault for buying a cheap clutch.

But yes, they're not luxurious or anything like that, but you at least got the point completely :)

Bang for Buck! Thats what Loki is trying to say (I think). You have to admit that when a 30 year old car with minimal expense can perform remarkably well when compared to a new/newish vehicle that has had thousands spent on it, you have to wonder !!

Eitherway, I want my BA-XR6 or failing that I'll settle for a new FPR

Mongie, you're gay, my car isn't worth $30k.
It's worth like $6k as is atm, and the SL/R 3300's are the quickest dying of the bunch (people dropping V8's into them).

FYI Burt, an Original A9X will fetch over $10k easily.
Probably looking between $10-15k, oh and I -think- they're something like 1984 models (I'm not too up to date on my A9X's)...
Reason? There are very rare (not quite cadillac style rare yet) but I've seen a few go for sale.
In another 30 years they'll probably double if not more, in value.

But hey, No Torana could possibly be worth more than $4k in your books.

*edit* will you asshats read, I never said it was worth $30k, I said in 30 years time it's -possible- it could be worth that much, but more than likely it'll be the A9X's worth that much if not more and I'll only be up to $15-20k.
Its still not much compared to a new car, but when you consider that you purchased it for LESS than what you sell it for, that makes it an investment.

Also, as orbitor said, old, rare, racing history, makes them something 'special'. having one in original factory condition makes my particular car 'special'. Nothing else going for it, that's for sure :)

Fact is, you're both gay. If you care so much for your cars, go f***ing drive them and leave those of us less romantically involved with our vehicles alone.

Lol Burt, you reckon I have a mail order bride - like you can f***ing talk, you paid $30 000 for an asian car that you seem to love more than any woman.

I reckon anyone who spends so much time and is so obsessed with their car must be sexually insecure. Real men with at least the slightest hint of testosterone are far more interested in women than hunks of metal that you use to drive around.

Also all you f*****s that are so obsessed with certain cars, I put it to you to join the Fab 5 cos it seems that fashion is so important to you....

Lol sorry :)

Umm, my car stereo consists of JVC headunit (that I've had for like 4 years and is still awesome - I definitely recommend JVC for value!), 2 JVC 6x9's up the back and 2 JVC 4"s up the front (all of which I've had for same duration as the head unit). I have a Jaycar Response 4x100w amp running a sony 12" sub off 2 bridged channels and the two 4"s in the front off the other two channels. I'm extremely surprised with the 4inches - they are running full range with 100w of clean power and basically never distort. I think they are getting a little tired of it now though. I think that has a lot to do with my headunit have virtually no signal distortion throughout the volume range. I need new front speakers but overal the system sounds pretty good. Being in a hatch, the sub goes pretty hard (especially with about 300w of clean bench-tested rms power going to it from the response amp!).
