I am interested in finding out how many of you actually have an addiction problem. Do you find your gaming time is taking on an addictive obsessive quality? Is it affecting your mental/physical health, as well as your quality of life?

As long as my mind is occupied I dont really care for video games, but as soon as I get bored, i go crawling back. its just the easiest thing to waste my time with, and i guess i should find something more productive.
I went 2 weeks without using a computer at all... and by the end i wanted to quite badly, even though i was on holidays. Hope that helps. |

My dad always used to complain I was on the computer too much and I should get outside and get some sunshine. He was mostly frustrated cos I was so sick all the time. Then after he retired he bought a computer and got hooked on Windows Solitaire, then Freecell. He'd play for hours and I was better so I'd go rollerblading. He never ate his words, but I got a good feeling of inward satisfaction. lol!
Bashing = bad. :-( I didn't have that problem, but violent games did help me work out a lot of aggression. There's something theraputic about running through a Doom map in god mode and going ballistic. Anyway, regarding the original question. A few years ago I was worried I might be addicted to computer games, so I stopped for a week. I had no withdrawal symtoms. Didn't even thnik about it. So no, I'm not addicted and not worried about it either. Not that I play a lot of games anymore, but they're good fun and a good time filler. I think I find it far more satisfying to create stuff rather than play games. Whether it's maps for games or programming or woodwork projects or building a duck pond or whatever. |

Games are addictive, whether you want to believe it or not. This, coming from someone who has experienced it first hand. However, I have broken free and moved onto better things, such as life.

I gave up drugs to be addicted to games, I mean I stopped taking drugs and began playing PC games and I am now addicted to them rather than Drug's, so if I am addicted to games that's ok.
Man those drug days are behind me. It's a waste of money and time, now all my spare money goes into my comps. Which is a waste of money also but atleast I have something to show for it now :D last edited by biscuits at 02:41:30 24/Feb/04 last edited by biscuits at 02:41:34 24/Feb/04 |

I think i've got a healthy obsession with computer games, and probably with computers in general. But it generally comes in waves. I have a life, i've got a girlfriend, i go to the pub with mates, i go out to parties, i work and study... hell, i even read books.. but sometimes i would rather stay home and play the latest game instead of going out... just sometimes. ;) oh, and i don't think that adsl helps the cause either =) |

I suck down bucket bongs and play BF1942 Merciless style, and man I love it..........and I even have a fulfilling REAL LIFE as well.........does anyone get addicted to forums? I think if ya play only 1 or 2 games and concentrate on them, then that's better than playing the 100's of games/demos that get released....I only play WW2 games....oh and Diablo......I say pick a game, stick with it try all the mods, then ya don't have to feel guilty about spending money on 'em..........but I got plenty o' money anyway so who gives a s***..........I play Mercilessly |

Ahhh Addiction - Yes I would say that I was. Not even a wife and two kids can pull me away from my beloved machine filled with gaming goodness. I sit infront of it and calm down from the days work. Sort of like sitting infront of the TV only with interaction. My wife calls it my infernal machine. |

Hes in my SDD (Software Design and Development) class... We're in year 12 and have 'External' schooling... like they send assessments and work every term... He has done no work for it at all! Not even the assessment...!!! Im a little behind but hes like 1 term and 6 weeks + an assessment behind!... He lives near the school and goes home every free period... ... I hope this helps you. |

When I was at school the only computer related class we had was about twice a year our english class would spend a lesson in the computer labs learning how to use Word and how to touch type.... I still can't touch type... I know its OT. I just felt like havin' a whinge |

hmmmz addictionz.... lets just say im a first year uni student now, and before that i was a cs addict.
This may shock some ppl but wen i was in the 9th grade i use to stay home on countless days just to sit there and play cs nite and day with little sleep. I went to bed after atleast 16hrs of cs in a day, then went to bed for a few hours, then i was up again to play cs. This continued into yr 11 at which point i started not goin to school at all and goin to internet cafes to play. I must have clocked upto atleast 6000 hours in those years. Then i stopped because i was caught jigging and had my computer taken away, and now im a lonely man with no graphics card. |

Er, I am not specifically talking about games, thats just a conclusion based on inconclusive evidence.....I am merely following up on others and their thoughts on games......That doesn't mean I play them 24/7 (i daresay, like you :)) or at all for that matter. How is he talking behind my back.....? He's indirectly talking about me in a negative way....I thought that was pretty self explanatory...or not. Its not only cowardly but very rude. So directing my comments towards cees, if you got beef with me then direct it TO ME. If you understand that 4n70ny then you're ALOT smarter than I thought.... :) Peace. |

There are some serious CS junkies but have you seen some of these guys who play the MMORPG games. ppffft. what a clickfest. And for hours and hours on end. Peace out |

Technically if you passed year 7 english you would have heard the teacher talk about 'figures of speech' or 'figurative speech', a key elementary principle that applies to many statements including 'talking' in relation to 'writing'...... 'Talking' behind someone's back is a common phrase (maybe you haven't encountered it yet), a phrase which encompasses figurative/metaphorical speech... But you already knew that :) Secondly it WAS behind my back, because I could have continued my direction of speech without knowing what cees had said, but others would have based their oppinions of me on his 'behind the back' statements.....Now if you can absorb all that, then you are not only smarter than I thought, but you can also read! :) hehe By the way, my comments are not intended to be hostile/offensive....So please don't get all riled up! Peace. |

I've always been a gamer. since an early age.
I only ever got fully into gaming and lanning about 3 years ago. The downsides: * Physical health. It's gone down quite a fair bit. I'm not overweight - Just out of shape * RSI :( My wrists! The upsides: *I'm still with my girlfriend of 3 years now. She doesn't like me gaming/lanning but she accepts that is what I enjoy. *I've met SOOOO many new people and friends. It's not hard to sort threw the good and bad. *I scored a management position at LANGames in Canberra. I have almost complete reign over the business - so I can shape it in the right direction. I'm earning 27k/pa doing what I LOVE. Not many people can say their jobs is what they love. :) |

mate you've got to get up and get some fresh air, try not sitting there too long, go for a walk in between games or something, as far as your wrists go get some hand spring thingys, they work, drink plenty of chamomile tea and eat your broccoli and above all remain calm and relaxed, try squeezing your arse cheeks together occasionally to keep your shape hehe AUSSIE cees |
