Looking at getting this card:

http://www.asus.com/products/vga/v9480tvd/overview.htm

just not 100% sure it'll run games like HL2 or Doom3 well. Any input would be nice hence the post...

the card is retailing for $289 at Umart.

if not why not and what should I buy for say $350 or less?

Fade, those games are 12months off yet. I would not be planning to run them at this stage.

at least get a DirectX 9 card like a Radeon 9600 Pro or something similar.

you get what you pay for and a decent video card starts from 400-500+

what capto said - you're MAD buying a new card until AFTER both games are released and we all have some hard data re framerates for the most popular chipsets

I'm not really planning to run them, I just don't wanna have to upgrade to much more in the near future.

my gf2 gts is starting to get a bit old.

How olds ya gf2?

Your saying is shabby .. and it might be a few years old

Bout your prepared to wait another 8-9months to get a new card? ... that might be like, 1/4 of its lifetime, AGAIN

and things are changing faster and faster .... dont fall too far back fellas :P

Yeah the 9500pro s***s on the 9600pro... they are doing the Nvidia thing and confusing people with new features but less overall power (GG GF4 MX, GF3 s***s on it).

i currently have a Gf4 Ti 4200 and IMO i dont think its really gonna cut the mustard with HL2 and D3

i intend on upgrading to something like an r9700 pro near the release date of the games, at the moment im not even playing any games because im sick of them and/or they just plain suck :)

9500Pro is better in a lot of things than a 9600Pro but not everything. *shrugs* there's not much between them. I'd buy either of them over a GF4Ti or even the lower end GFFX that's for sure. Unless of course you can score a ti4600 really cheap.
