Same reason you'd use it at work - its far better than any other Microsoft OS in existance.

I am sure someone with actual knowledge would come on here and slam you with 5 million reasons why Win2k is better acrylic.

If a computer still constantly f***s up with Win2k installed (like mine does) then there is a pretty big problem (mine being my psu isn't strong enough).

Okay here is a reason;

It's more stable. If your's isn't then you have a f***ed up install of it.

well for starts it is 100 times quicker that win 98 from a lan point of view, yes it has a few probs running some games, but most games like cs and q3 run better, it has a better internet system and is made for commerical use and therfor does not crash, the main reason this is, is that it it is based on NT technology and not DOS which is about 15 years old.

so win 2k is not better than win 98 it owns it.

in my opinion there has been no better os coming out of bill gate's ass scienc dos 6.22!!

ok i change my argument its stable and maybe ok for home use if you know how to tweak it.
unless you know how to tweak it you will finder it very unstable for home use

So the 100's of people that use it and rave about it are really lying and it isn't stable for them at all?

sifnt XP build 2481

sorry - but it owns.
in 2k i get 1380 3dmark2001 marks, with an avg of 30 fps on the games during benchmark, and in XP i get 2753 3dmark2001 marks, with an avg fps of 71. bootup time of 2 seconds (after bios) on a tbird 800 - i think im going to "shell out for XP".

(before the flame, ive used past builds of xp before, all of them s***, but this recent one isnt bad at all)

"my windows2000 server needs a restart every 2nd day and has crashed twice"

acrylic
our server at work has been running for 8 months with out a reboot or a power down.
I think that your hardware is s***.

Also, windows 98 IS NOT as stable as 2K
2K wipes the floor of it, and you will find that most ppl get windows 2000 for home use, at work we ask, what OS do you want to buy for your computer, and they all say 2K, iv sold 1 copy of 98 and 2 of 95 in the last 5 months, and 96 copys of windows 2000.
Also, no one even bothered with windows ME because its s*** and not good

so shut the f*** up until you KNOW what your talking about , not what you THINK you KNOW acrylic

It depends too, I suppose, on what the server does ?? If it is just a file server, 8 months easy. Mail/web server perhaps not as eaily. I don't know just guessing.
8 monrths at home with no re-boots, unlikely. I'm sure everyone at home install/removes at leaat a piece of software/hardware that requires a re-start every 8 months. What about taking your computer to a LAN ?? Of course a home PC is never going to be up for 8 months straight
Also there is probably no need to have a computer at home running for those hours without a shutdown, why waste the electricity ??

It does files, and backoffice ( which is mail) and has a pretty hard load.

And if you took the time to read the resst of my post acrylic you dumb s***, I said that we have sold 96 copies of windows 2000 to HOME users.
We had one complaint about it as well, which was someone left a disk in the drive during a boot up ( idiots) and all other calls where inquries of where to get the Service packs.

So when you get a clue , come back and argue.

Oh, and out of curiosity, how old are you and do you work in IT?

I've been using win2k for over a year now at home and i know i play around with settings ALOT, installing some dodgy programs/demos then uninstalling them etc so it's been put through alot but it is still stable and i can't remember the last time it crashed, nothing like the bit rot of win9x/me.

Ezekiel, go into your BIOS, then PNP/PCI setup (or something like that) and make sure PNP OS is set to yes. Also, make sure all of the slot IRQs are set to auto. Then reinstall the card. Before doing any of that though, RELAX.

my pc specs
win2kpro
duron 750@950
256 ram
40gb hdd
gf2mx
sblive
17inch trinitron
6x dvd

my 3dmark2001 score is 2288

win2k has been extremely stable for me and only gets restarted if i change drivers or do a windows update(or install another prog that requires a restart). i also havent needed to tweak it at all. on the other hand i see my freinds ME boxes crash or bsod at least twice a day. im yet to see an ME box that hasnt crashed. that in itself is reason enough to use 2k over ME. afaik win2k's networking (2k to 2k) is a hell of a lot faster tham ME's (ME to ME) networking.

usually youll only get problems on 2k when the person behind the k/b has nfi what they are doing, or f***s with settings they dont understand.
