I quit smoking today I haven't had one now for around 20 hours. I am going nutz I am talking at a billion words per minute cant stop eating my ruler. I am very annoyed at work and have a very hot head. My lungs feel heavy and I want to shoot myself.

I've quit.

Most of my friends remember how much of a rampant smoker I used to be, and it feels great to be rid of it. The worst thing is trying to quit and have other smokers goading you to have another cigarette. It's like an unspoken rule of the smoking brigade, like never smoking someone else's last cigarette in the pack. I think what did it for me (and I've smoked for 10+ years) was the realisation that I was a slave to nicotine, and I felt like s*** because of it. It was only when I started saying 'no', that I felt I had the strength to keep saying no. I reckon the first 2 days are mission critical. After that it's still hard, but considerably easier.

And once you get drunk and turn down a smoke.. you are set!

so yeah. It's been six months! w00p!

ross, im impressed, not many of my friends could have the willpwoer and strength to go through with what youve done... the only mate of mine that has managed to quit was because he got himself a foxy lady...

so yeah, it seems to me that maybe some sort of specific focus is necessary? (i dont smoke, therefore have never atttempted to quit, im just trying to provide some insight here :)

The first time I quit smoking, lasted 4 months. I went cold turkey. No gum, no mints, nothing. I just said "I'm quiting after this cig" and did.

when i had the opportunity to start smoking i turned it down, so i cant help you a great deal as i am not addicted to nicotine, one suggestion though would be to get some nicorette or patch of some sort. because you have been smoking a long time (or a great deal) if you are experiencing what you are describing, you body depends on the drug now, rather than just saying "im quitting" it would be more beneficial if you slowly let your body get used to the fact that you want to rid your system of nicotine, as the chances of you starting smoking again after something like that would be very small.


a couple of friends that i know say they can quit smoking at any time they choose, and some do and go "cold turkey" but 1-2 mths later start back up again cause they think they can just quit any time they want to (when in actualy fact they didnt really ever quit).

anyway gl man and hopefully you will be cleansed of the s*** nicotine in your body before you know it.

if you have a friend you trust - give him $100 or something, and for every cigarette you smoke, let him keep $5, and for every cigarette you sucessuflly turn down in a situation like that, make him give $5 back, once you have fully quit smoking, then get whats left back.

f***s me, but I have never smoked in my whole life. A cigarette has never even touched my lips and I am damn proud of that fact. I won't even go out with a chick if she smokes, I find it that repulsive.

Don't just go and stop like that it was too hard for me, have one now and again... just continually cut back... and don't bother with that gum, it tastes like crap!

You have inspired me to quit sprinkles. I got close once but I thought "who gives a fuc*" but it sounds like being on drugs when your quiting. So I will give it a go at work today see how I go.

play lots and lots and lots of what ever it is you like to play (quake 3, cs etc.) that should keep ur mind off it

I used to be a pretty heavy smoker about 3-4months ago but I quit using zyban. Sure my kidneys fell out and s*** out my liver but I don't smoke anymore :o) Just kidding too by the way (about s***ting out organs) I found zyban really really good. But I don't think you can get it anymore, owell.

i should stop smoking as well, i just went and got a pack and well, i think i will stop, i cant afford it ffs

Cool thing about zyban is it cost me $3.50 for the whole course :o) Patches would have cost me about $35 a week !!

I'm doing better - I've been without a smoke for a week now and its ok until I drink. Then I CRAVE a smoke and cannot fight them craving till I have a few. I think that is my major problem now - I can withstand not having one when I'm sober - but as soon as even 2 beers are in me (especially in a bar/club) I have to find one.

A few years ago, a friend of mine tried quitting. I saw this book in a bookstore called "the pocket book of quitting", it was only $5 so i got it for him. He said it was the single biggest help in him quitting.

You just carry it around in your pocket, and every time you feel like a smoke, open it up and read a page.
It's full of quotes and facts about smoking being a mental addiction rather than a physical one.

Anyways, if your having trouble in a few weeks, you should swing by a bookstore and grab one.

If you want to quit but can't you are a weak weak individual !! If you really want to quit, you will be able to easily. Don't bother trying unless you really want to, and stuff... I tried quitting about 10 times from grade 11 until a few months ago and the longest I ever lasted was 3 months. This time though I really really wanted to quit, and I have. You really should use a nicotine replacement method though (patches/gun/chew on old cigarette buts) or a drug like zyban that acts on your brain without using nicotine.
Just my opinion/experience.
And by the way, after quitting smoking and seeing other people smoke, SMOKERS LOOK REALLY REALLY STUPID !! Seriously, just think about the money they cost ?? Seriously f***s me why I started and you will say the same when you quit !!
You know what gets me now, watching a really nice chick in a car at a set of lights in a decent car, and then they light up a smoke, makes me cringe. It is just so unattractive in my opinion.

By the way I am not sledging smokers too much here, I used to be one and I know it sucks trying to quit, but you feel really good about yourself when you quit.

I assume that you are joking but if you are not that would be heterosexual !! Sif you would want QGL admins (on top of all the s*** they have to do) dobing on kids for smoking. Just laugh at them to their faces and they will get embarrassed enough to make them think again about trying to look cool by smoking. If older/influential people in the QGL community did that you would probably find that they would not smoke at QGL anymore, or perhaps they would do so discretely and less often.

u can even get low joule boiled lollies in the supermarket
careful with those though, the artificial sweetner is a laxative in large amounts
