you know how on a lan with ICS, and both people are on msn, if u send a file, it goes through the network, not through the internet? does the same apply if you initiate a voice conversation with them?

sorry to kinda high jack the thread, but when i'm on msn, i can't send files to anoter person directly, it comes up with "this file couldn't be delivered yayddbld" but i can send as attachment through email. cheers.

You can send AND recieve with MSN over any ics. ALl you need to do is either 1) open certain ports OR the easier way.. Install MSN 5 :)

yeah ive tried it. ive got net shared here and i sent my bro a file across msn on while we were both on the network and it sends just like lan.

well the reason files getting sent by msn come over the local network is because when you send them the packets hit the router which realises it the receiving address too and so they end up getting router locall rather than hitting the internet at all.

so i'd say that the voice communication probably would end up doing the same depending on whether or not MSN treats it as a direct connection between clients or whether MSN acts as an intermediary
