.... thingy.

I am starting from scatch here, and there are a few things I need know.

1) what program/s do I need and what are the best ones.

2) what are some good tutorials for complete beginners?

3) is it possible to make decent sounding electronic music from scatch with just a PC? :P

If any of you are good at this s*** and want to help me add me on msn - fpot@inthemix.com.au

Reason 2

and a decent controller keyboard

Those are the two things I'm using, but I'm just getting started so I'm no expert ;)

What is that propellerhead thingy? I don't think that site works :/

And what does that keyboard do exactly and how much is it? (I can't find a price in big bold letters on that page :P)

Edit: the site works.

The rrp on that keyboard is $400, but I got mine for Christmas at Musicians Pro Shop in the valley for $320. They were having a 20% off sale so not sure if it's still that price.

You need it because it makes your life infinitely easier. Instead of keying in each note you just play and then edit the timing etc. The knobs are basically keyboard shortcuts.

Who cares how old the music sounds, as long as it's good

Ok let's try not to turn another electronica thread to s*** people. No more DJ Sammy will be discussed or you all die.

fruityloops 3 is a good place to start
can fool around with templates etc and just get your foot in the door
um theres some other one like acidtracks or something? apparently its pretty good
of course all the products of these and why I know about them are due to drunken friends and their horrible horrible (but oh so beautiful for its drunken creativity) music.

I personally find acid to be really good at this sort of stuff

haven't read the whole thread...

first of all, reason is not the only f***ing software out there that will make electronic music. there is fruityloops pro. i myself use buzz tracker although i admit it has a fair few bugs in it, and does not have as much power, or if it does, it is much harder to utilise. it is also easier to learn, in my opinion, because it does not shove one thousand and one different things in your face. whatever, i come from the REAL old pc/amiga thing, so i haven't let go of the whole tracker thing, therefore buzz suits me. i will also admit that it's harder to setup because of plugins and stuff.

not sure about reason 2, but the original reason, as far as i could tell, also could not load vst instruments. that is a severe limitation and they should be punished for it.

midi keyboard is NOT necessary (although i am getting one for myself hopefully), it's useful to experiment with, but is only a bonus.

and for god's sake people, acid is a loop program. if you seriously have no real interest in making your own music, use it. fine if you're an amatuer (not that i'm anything special) but at least make your own beats and melodies.

that is all.

Get cubase or acid pro and goldwave, a KP2 Kaoss Pad (crystal method use them) and a basic drum machine then invest some money getting one of those lead input things that plug into your printer port for the pc.

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/search/g=home?q=korg+kaoss+pad&rsrc=00633

This is what im planning to get, i want to make my own sampels instead of stealing other peoples. Running a guitar through the kp2 sounds awsome. All i need now is money :<

Get screamtracker and make some MOD music!

...no really, three best proggies I've found are Reason 2.0, Fruityloops 3 and Cubase VST.

The best for beginners would have to be fruityloops.
