NSW's State of Origin rugby league team will undergo fitness tests today with winger Adam MacDougall in some doubt with a back injury.

MacDougall, one of four Newcastle players selected in the Blues' squad yesterday, missed the Knights' 32-24 win over St George Illawarra on Saturday night and continues to battle to overcome the injury.

But fears MacDougall had torn his hamstring were put to rest with the pain in his upper leg related to a sciatic nerve problem in his back.

"The doctor I saw on Friday was very optimistic that if I get picked for the Blues I'll be able to play," MacDougall said in his weekly newspaper column in the Sun Herald.

"He said I'll need treatment and will have to take it easy for a few days before getting stuck into the preparation, but after that I should be okay."

NSW selectors expressed some concern last night over rumours Sharks prop Jason Stevens was in National Rugby League judiciary commissioner Jim Hall's sights for lifting his knees during Friday night's 35-16 loss to Brisbane at ANZ Stadium.

Hall will review video of the weekend's round of matches this morning.

After today's morning medical and team apparel outfitting, the Blues will head south to Wollongong where they will be armed with guns and paintballs as ammunition for a game of skirmish.

Sif Western Australia won't win the State of Origin this year.

I can't believe MacDougall is allowed to play football, let alone representative football. He takes banned steriods because he requires them, but this gives him a way unfair advantage. How good would he be without them? One of the big thing about MacDougall is his aggression and strength, and the steriods would be a part of that. I just think that it's f***ed he's allowed to play representative football...and Julian O'Neill copped it last year in the State of Origin when he went to tackle MacDougall and MacDougall lifted his knee and laid out O'Neill and got away with it.

Oh, and the blues are f***ed without Johns, and Fitler isn't as good as he has been in past seasons, meaning that this series will probably be close. Although, I have NFI how Brad Meyers got in the side ahead of Steve Price.
