Hello peoples,
I am thinking about wasting oodles of money on a new video card, and there is one thing that i need to consider in my purchase. I have a fairly old now Athlon 1G on a Abit KT7a-raid mobo with 512 SDram, and I’m just wondering how much of the performance benefits of this video card I would be likely to reach considering the hardware it would be running on.

Has anyone have a similar (or even lower) system to what I have, with a recent video card on and found it to be overall beneficial?

I had the same question not so long ago... upgrade the P3 933 to a (decent DDR based) P4 and keep my GF3 or get the card.

I got the card. I should have just gone the P4

I have an athlon 900 and 256 SD and I was able to procure a GFC4 cheaply and from a shop :) and I am very very happy with the results. It runs all new games well @ high res so... QUAKE 3 WILL RUN GOOD SCUZZY ;)

it depends on the game, with most new games you'll notice an improvement. With BF1942 you'll be able to run at higher settings but it will be your CPU/memory that limits your frames.

a new graphics card will help a lot but also keep in mind that newer games are quite cpu hungry as well ... and keep in mind that a ti500 isnt much slower than a ti4200 at stock speeds and a radeon8500 is faster than a ti500

its all an endless vicous circle, just do not get the 'disease'
