Can anyone tell me how to make the most of playing quake 3 online. Im only on 56k connection, and i play with a friend on dsl (we connect P2P)....sometimes i keep up and even win!, other times i do nothing but freeze up while my 'connection interrupts'. His computer is a mac at 250mhz and mine is a pc at 500mhz...also...today i connected to a game on a quake server...my ping time was on average 500 and another player (also on 56k, with a G4 mac at 350mhz), well his ping time was under 100 all the time. What makes the differences in ping times? and how can i get mine lower? Does the geographical location of the server have anything to do with the ping time? I hope someone can help??? thanks

Does the geographical location of the server have anything to do with the ping time?
Definitely. Make sure you are only playing on local (aussie) servers, or else you'll be getting very average pings. Your best bet is to get ServerQuery (http://www.serverquery.com) and use that to find a server you both get good pings to. If you're on a 56k modem, the best pings you can really hope to get are between 100-200, but you should be able to still get smooth and consistent gameplay.
