Topic: Gaming 'Rig' sold

hi folks,

I've decided to sell my gaming rig (box only) and become a traitor by getting a tiny quiet mac mini 2ghz to do net, itunes and photochopping coz i don't play any of the games i download and dont code on it anymore.

I know of Sold forums btw, just trying to get this thing out the door asap.

I've gone on Umart and CA and found the current price of the exact parts and its roughly $1700-1800 as of a 3 days ago and I'm selling it for $1250 o.n.o. I got it in december, though some parts less than six months ago and haven't had any problems with hardware and never OC'd it. Also, I'm in brissy.

• Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3GHz with 6mb cache
• ASUS Maximus Formula X38 Chipset (very good mobo - $400 originally)
• 4x1Gb GeiL DDR2 800MHz Dual Channel 5-5-5-15
• Albatron GeForce 8800GTS 512Mb (newer G92 version)
• 320Gb SATA Seagate HDD
• Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer Soundcard
• Pioneer Blu-Ray BD-ROM/DVD-RW (SATA)
• Lite-On DVD-RW
• Thermaltake Soprano Case
• Thermaltake 750W Toughpower Modular PSU

For the hardware uninclined, plays crysis on high @ 25-40fps, UT3 on max at over 60-70fps. Mass effect on max at 40-50 fps. (1680x1050). And also havebeen running Vista 64-bit without a single problem since I got the PC.

I'm wanting to sell the whole thing at once so as to not be out of pocket with this mac mini thing.

Here's the case.

turn off all the unnecessary bling, go back to classic start button, make it look like 98, and win!

i cant stand themes, buttons, pointers, effects or anything that isnt the most basic setup:

turn off uac, turn on access to system files, turn on classic folders, turn off anything that hides options from users (favourite menus or whatever s*** that is)

nice clean fast simple interface, u never have to search for options, you dont get bugged by the os for whatever you want to do, you arent wasting cpu cycles on s*** looking good;

Leave. Kthxbi.

I'm not looking to actually give away this pc... I'm already selling it for 2/3rds its CURRENT value, not orignial value (over 2 grand) (if you didn't read my op, id gone to CA and Umart and worked out its current RRP value to be over $1700). Its in very good condition and is actually still a very fast PC. I just don't use it enough anymore and its large and bulky. I want to move to a quiet mac mini and use Mac OS Leopard.

See while you paid that much ... I think the bid of 800 was realistic and 1grand generous.

I own a Toughpower 750w ... and its over kill
The 8800gts meh 4850 cheaper and better.
The case got one (and a aurora 3d and a cm-690) and it sucks my second pc has coolermaster 690 and it kicks the s*** out of it.

the cpu ... meh
the motherboard ... the high end spec asus motherboards should come with a warning that you have too much money

bluray and dvd burner ? ... meh you said games box

And personally sound cards are a massive waste of money.

Rekon I could put together a pc with new parts that kick the s*** out of that for less then your second hand and has been overclocked (read fried) price.

The joys of posting for sale threads in a general forum ...

you're selling it for 2/3 of it's value if all the hardware was brand new... which it isn't. you're also ignoring developments in hardware that have occurred since you bought that computer.

i think some of the offers aren't too bad, there's simply no way you're going to sell it for over $1k unless you find some poor clueless bastard to rip off.

edit: i hate agreeing with obes =(

See a mate of mine was thinking of buying it for 1200 but thought hed get a better deal if he went new. He ended up with only a quad core, 4800 and maybe some more HDD space, extra than my setup, for around 1900. So he spent 700 extra dollars on 2 more cores and a somewhat better video card.

bluray and dvd burner ? ... meh you said games box

So what if it has BluRay. Its primarily aimed at gaming. Blu-ray is just a bonus.

And personally sound cards are a massive waste of money.

Onboard sound for the lose...

Rekon I could put together a pc with new parts that kick the s*** out of that for less then your second hand and has been overclocked (read fried) price.

Uh, apart from the expensive motherboard, the PC costs 1700 at least, right now. As we speak... How did you come up with that? And I'm talking about whats in MY pc.

In light of this, I'm willing to go 1150 o.n.o.

1100 without bluray as a mate is keen to buy that...

The joys of posting for sale threads in a general forum ...

True that...

User Account Control. In the User Account setting I believe. (I've forgotten coz my install automattically turns it off).

UAC is that popup BS in Vista.

3dee you are missing the point here. Your hardware is second hand and therefore tainted. PC hardware is like a commodore it halves in value when you walk out of the shop.

How did I come up with that ?

Easy you spent $350 on a PSU and case (hey, I have done it too ... I have an aurora 3d with TT TP750, a Sonata with TT TP750 and a CM690 with CM 500W)
Coolermaster RC-690 + CoolerMaster 500W Extreme (ATX) = 150
Cheaper at half the price, and sadly imo better ...

The money spent on the fast ram could have been spent on a better cpu and gpu.

The video card at the time a reasonable choice, is now a poor choice bang for buck.

eg.
G.Skill DDR2 4G(2x2G)PC6400 800Mhz Blue Heatspreader 5-5-5-15
Coolermaster RC-690 690 Case
Western Digital 500G SATAII 7200 rpm HDD Green Power
Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3L (pick asus/msi whatever top end MoBos are for OCing which you say you aren't)
Gecube HD4850 512M
CoolerMaster 500W Extreme
Intel CORE 2 Quad Q9400 //or// Intel CORE 2 Duo E8600

~$1050 (1040 at umart)
+180 for vista (assuming your vista is legit, but you haven't been including it in your pricings so I won't either)
+30 if you need a dvd drive ... (maybe I am unusual but I have half a dozen of them kicking around from upgrades)

"but its not apples for apples" yeah I know ... point is new, has warranty, cheaper and I rekon would perform as well or better

Look I know it sucks to spend lots on hardware only for it to be worth a lot less even a short period of time (hell I even bought 2 Creative voodoo2 12 megs {lawls} when they were $750 a pop). I never expected to get 66% back.

Onboard sound for the lose...

In a double blind gaming test I doubt you'd be able to pick it (ps. I spent $400 on a sound card once ...)

Finally as a well known QGL troll, its rare that anyone feeds me anymore ... so I thank you ...

Oh I love selling stuff...

I get what you guys mean but there's a reason why I'm not selling it 'cheap'. For one, the parts aren't exactly cheap parts. And as good as it is to get a dirt cheap 1100 buck computer with $100 motherboards, this isn't what you're getting with my PC. I intentionally went for high-end quality components when I bought this PC which is probably the reason why it works so flawlessly (such as on Vista).

$1100 for the whole thing is the lowest I'll go unfortunately. (I have to sell this thing to make the money to get the Mac mini I'm buying which is part of the reason I need more than a grand...). They're not cheap.

If you aimed around 900 you will probabely get a sale. I hope you get the amount your after but I guess the market will dictate.

just trying to get this thing out the door asap

A number of people you realistic offers, which you turn down

$1100 for the whole thing is the lowest I'll go

In other words you don't want to get it out the door asap.

I have to sell this thing to make the money to get the Mac mini I'm buying which is part of the reason I need more than a grand...

Aren't they ~$850-900 ?

Is there a real reason your selling it ? or a mish mash of the above ?
Not that I care

this isn't what you're getting with my PC

Unfortunately no one knows that except you ... PCs don't come with hymens so no one knows if you have f***ed it.

Who woulda thunk a "for sale" thread could provide such entertainment

Sold it for $950. Oh well.

Lol the guy at Next Byte tried to sell me a Macbook instead of a mac mini... Dont want a fuken macbook idiot.

Also, does anyone know where I can get a SATA to FireWire 3.5" external hdd case?

Can't find any on umart or CA. And dont wanna buy off ebay (need it straight away). Looks like I may have to just go USB.. Apparently USB often only managed 280mbs which isnt as fast as the hdd..

Yeah, i'd prefer to use FireWire (1 port on the mac mini) before going to USB as the 400Mbps on FW is guaranteed. Actually, this looks like its got FireWire (1394A) Welland ME-740T

Lol meh. I've got my mac mini and its frkn sweet.

Its actually a lot faster than I was expecting out of it.

+ iLife/MobileMe sync s***s on Vista's ones. iMovie is actually pretty damn good for a 'cheap' editor. Hell of a lot better than Windows Moofie Maker.
