Yesterday AusGamers had the chance to get down and dirty with GTA 4's multiplayer mode alongside some other Aussie gaming publications, and we're not too modest to say we utterly kicked ass! (Well, we did okay).

At any rate, while only getting to have time with three of the multiplayer modes, they each represented the level of quality and uniqueness Rockstar North have injected into this part of their hotly anticipated game, showcasing just how much more there is to the title beyond Niko Bellic's story.

Here’s hoping I’ll see one of you on Xbox Live for some GTA IV multiplayer in just over three weeks.

So what gamertag are we watching out for?

Shame you didn't buy a 360, cos I don't think the downloadable episodic content is coming for the PS3 version.

microsoft are yet to prove to me that episodic content is actually anything worth while, if past game episodic content is anything to go by then you wont be getting much for your money. so i purchased ps3 version so i can atleast play online for free, if microsoft proves me wrong and the episodic content is actually half decent ill go pick up a 360 copy of gta4.

Joke as you will, but after finally buying a PS3 and seeing what Sony's online network offers, I'm now more convinced than ever that Xbox Live is a rip-off. The only thing that really sets Live apart from PSN is the Marketplace, which you don't even need a gold Live account for anyway. My Live account is going to revert back to Silver soon, and I'm not sure I want to bother paying the $70 for the 'privilege' to play online (when they don't even have dedicated servers ffs).

I know you were more taking a jab at the fact that bugger all people have PS3s (I'm still the only person in my circle of mates who owns one), but I thought this was a good opportunity to mention that Live is a f***ing rip-off. I always -kind- if thought it was, but now I downright know it is.

I look forward to playing against all my internet friends via the PSN. Xbox is for nerds so it doesn't matter anyway.

im of the exact same opinion.
why microsoft charge people to play games online amazes the f*** out of me when every decent game worth playing online for the 360 can be played for free on a computer or ps3.

the only thing ps3 needs to get sorted is ingame xmb and a better psn store.
new psn store coming in the next update and the xmb (has been promised for f***ing ages) isnt far off.( i suspect they will implement it around the time home comes out, well youd want to think so anyway)

as far as finding people online to play against, i havent had a problem at all, i play alot of burnout paradise and ive never had a problem finding locals to play with at all times of the day, my experience is the same for r:fom.

the amount of noobs i speak to that are buying a ps3 for gta4 is astonishing, most of them arent even aware that its coming to xbox360 or that it has dlc, so much for microsoft paying $50million when all they can do is market it to xbox 360 fanbois.

either way if all i could aford was an xbox360 (and at one point that is all i had) then id be more then happy with what i have. since im not in that position ill enjoy the best of both worlds.

Yeah, I don't understand this, why are so many people under the impression that it's only on PS3? The other GTA games were on Xbox, and I know for a fact that they were good sellers.

the other gta games got released on xbox 6-12months after release on the ps3.
the ps3 is also a way bigger brand name then the xbox, sure most people know what an xbox is and what it does, but people still think sony plastation when it comes to anything console, the same way people use to think "nintendo" back in the snes and nes days, this is a huge pulling power for joe blog that doesnt do his research before buying a console.

just last week some guy at work bought a ps3 after already owning a 360, he bought it because a mate told him that the ps3 can play divx files now, when i told him his 360 can do the same thing he refused to believe me till i showed him proof. sure this dude is a big f***ing noob but hes still another stat on the ps3 vs 360 scoreboard. (the only reason he bought a 360 was because it came out before the ps3, todate he owns 2 games which he got at launch, doa and perfect dark).

I could care less about a story

That is so annoying, especially for someone doing writeups :p

I miss the old GTA. The first 2 where they were fun :( Top down free-roaming action.

Wow, not even Gears of War? Do you remind him daily how much he fails?

Story in multiplayer is co-op though, right? The MP in GTA4 is all just DM-style stuff isn't it?

Sorry, I was referring to saying "could care less" instead of "couldn't care less".

he hired it out and thought that the game was to shakey and gave him a headache, i felt like punching him in the head and saying "hows that for a headache" but i restrained myself and took quiet satisifaction in knowing he was missing out on great gaming.

he sent me an email today saying he got gt5 over the weekend but saying that it doesnt feel realistic enough with the controller so he bought a momo racing wheel thing, im going to try to convince him to buy a g25 logitech racing wheel just he wastes his money.

IMO, the most awesome co-op game I played on the xbox was Crackdown, there may of even been a story... I can't say for certain, I was far too busy throwing criminals off of skyscrapers.

Its a shame they didn't make GTA4 fully co-op though :/

Hey I'm totally jealous of all those people who will be playing this over XBL, everyone is going to be so much nicer to each other knowing they're paying money every month just to be allowed to play it. When you're paying a mandatory monthly fee to play something like that, doesn't it make it feel just that little bit more like a chore and less like doing something you feel like?

I know of plenty of people who are getting the PS3 version, so I'll see you guys on PSN with them!

Also, 360 is SO for nerds. :P

I only know 1 person who even owns a PS3, whereas I know a dozen people with 360's who'll be getting the 360 version, so its a pretty easy decision for me. I don't mind paying for Live, its a good product, I don't mind spending a few dollars on something thats worth it. Its like $90 for 12 months, thats like $1.80 a week, I got no problems with that, I spend more than that every morning on coffee.
