Nintendo of Australia has supplied us with some information regarding their overall software performance for 2007; from DS and Wii console sell through to what the top three performing titles were for both machines.

According to The Big N Australia, life-to-date sales of the DS are at 988,168 while the Wii is still climbing from 293,990 at the end of 2007. The top three software performers in 07 for both platforms were as follows:

Nintendo DS:
  • Pokemon Diamond and Pearl - 167,319
  • Dr Kawashima's Brain Training - 78,279
  • More Brain Training From Dr Kawashima - 67,095
Nintendo Wii:
  • Wii Play with Wii Remote - 114,600
  • Super Mario Galaxy - 54,079
  • Mario Party 8 - 52,530
Given Wii Play with the Wii Remote has both been available since the Wii's launch and is incredible value it makes sense it would be number one, but it's also interesting to see that in just over a month Super Mario Galaxy shot straight to number two with just under 50% sales of the top game. It's sad to see Mario Party 8 so high when other top games such as Metroid Prime 3 have been available for a little while. No surprises in the DS camp for top games though, but it would have been nice to see our old pal Link make a strong debut.

Moving into 2008, Nintendo still have their latest peripheral-driven title to hit, Wii Fit, while the whole Wii community (and beyond) wait with baited breath for the hotly anticipated online party romp, Super Smash Bros Brawl. No word on an Aussie release date yet, but the US release was just recently push back to March 9. We'll keep bugging Nintendo of Australia for a date though.

man mario party 8 was bad :(

it is a shame with such quality other games out there;

i know zelda was just a gamecube port, but man its a great game and it just keeps going!

ive been at it for a fairly large chunk of time, and im still going;

sure beats a lot of pc games where you finish the single player game in an arvo . . .. .

also, zelda has the best attack controls in a console video game evar

Wii Mario Kart

whens it coming?

It was supposed to be early this year...but perhaps they figured they can afford to delay the title and polish it, like what they did with Mario Galaxy. Seemed to work in their favour re: ^^^^^^

Metroid Prime 3 is f***ing awesome, not as hard as the first two definitely but still a great experience and they absolutely f***ing nailed FPS on a console (even though it's an adventure game).

how did phantom hour glass not make it?

... it didn't sell as many as the other games. That's how.

I wonder how many total DS's have been bought in Australia if you include imported ones. I know 2 people who imported Japanese ones before they came out here, and I bought a Japanese DS lite because I wanted a navy one. There's probably more in my social network who have imported DS's but it has never come up.

The SSBB Famitsu review...

This time, single-player is also big. Adventure mode is pretty lengthy and enjoyable and the story's presentation is great. Thanks to the "Final Smash" moves with surprising shows of strength, unforeseen abilities arise. Options for control, sound, and so on are perfect and also deserve a hats-off.

The new "Final Smash" moves with brilliant effects that can be used by any character are refreshingly fun, right up there with the rest of the battles. I'm glad the single-player mode is also bountiful. "Adventure Mode: The Subspace Emissary" keeps such a good tempo of movies and action that one easily forgets the time while playing. Awesome!

Appealing production and features. Also, the movements of the characters are dynamic yet subtle. The brilliant actions of the "Final Smash" moves are a must-see. There are tons of stages, and the single-player mode is perfect. Not only is there a stage editor, but detailed statistics from the game are presented. Nice.

The movements of the assembled all-stars are highly-polished, single-player is perfect and easy to get into, and the challenge of collecting herein is more than enough. With outstanding art direction, this game really lets you feel the power of motion. There are new things to discover with each play, with both joy and sorrow to be savored in battle.
