And the biggest demo of the year goes to... The Witcher. Atari have released a playable demo for the recently released action role playing game "The Witcher", weighing in at over 2GB.
Giving players a tantalizing taste of the world of The Witcher, the demo begins with the first part of the prologue in which the seeds of the epic story are sown and the white haired witcher Geralt learns the fundamentals of combat. The prologue is followed by the entirety of Act 1, during which Geralt of Rivia will see the first threads of the story weave their web around him and be called upon to slay man and beast to stay alive and earn his keep.
Mmmm, tantalizing. Download it right here from AusGamers files.

Awesome, I might grab this purely because my quota resets tomorrow, and I still have quite a few GB left to burn.

that little blurb about what the game is totally doesn't say anything!

This game is really really good. Don't be put off by the pretty average Prologue, Act 1, which is inclued, is rad.

There's probably an easy 4 hours gameplay in this demo if it has the whole Act 1, even more if you run around doing everything and play dice poker, get into barfights, sleep with all the chicks, etc.

Haha same, cept it doesn't count towards my quota since I'ma grabin it from internode. The writers strike is starting to have an effect on my quota excess at the end of the month.

I'm gonna grab it. The lastest PC Powerplay gave it an awesome write up and those guys are always pretty spot on with their reviews.

I don't like the combat so far. I just finished the prologue.

i wasnt a big fan of the combat system in the demo myself, it seemed a bit clunky or just lacking in depth.

the story was immersive enough for my liking though, and i was dirty when the demo ended suddenly. there was a few more things i wanted to check out before id have considered purchasing the game

read the instructions about the combat and how it works or you'll think it's mong if you just keep bashing away on the attack button.

At least it's interactive, better than just click and wait till the enemy dies.
It gets much better as your skills improve and you get a few spells to mix it up with.

awesome game
love the trophy card you get for screwing a chick

combat kind of sucks - like when the monster moves when you are trying to time your clicks

and when he's running around the camera seems a bit 'shakey'

i need more memory to run this though... 2G just aint enough with vista
