Valve have pushed out a new update for Team Fortress 2. From the changelog: * Changed some networking code to help alleviate the lagouts some clients are experiencingAs always, you need to update through Steam. |

I'm waiting for them to add the medic velcro feature by which medics find it difficult to pussy out on their heavies and soldiers in the line of fire.

I haven't played a medic that much, but when I have, there are times where you know the person you're healing will die in a few seconds regardless, so you can either stay there, and die yourself when they come after you next, or abandon them and help someone else who can finish what your soon-to-be-dead partner started. It's a necessary evil. Though having said that, there are just losers who run away.

... there are just losers who run away. You said it! I know what you mean, sometimes it's the heavy/sollies fault for being a dufus. Also nothing pisses me off more as medic then a guy who gets invuln and then stands around holding their junk rather than rushing forward to kill some s***. |

no new maps thats cool There are some pretty sweet custom maps out there. Nothing that's as great as say dustbowl or gravelpit but solid maps that deserve more attention. I suspect over the next month or so people will port over some of the sweeter TFC maps like avanti. |

rock was the alcatraz style prison right? that s*** was my fav!
cz will add a whole new play style of having to plant the flags. i used to love spying on that map, go into the central sewer area and feign death so you were underwater and wait for a whole bunch to pass you then stabby mcstab stab :D Fixed jump/taunt exploitwtf was that? |

I'm liking TF2.
Add me, Tollaz0r! Soldat and Medic FTW! With occasional HW Guy or Pyro. Still haven't got the hang of spy. Can usually take out 1-2 people then get horribly mangled, I just suck at getting behind people.. I hate ubering someone and they dont rush in and take out turrets and lots of people. Do medic heals stack on a single target? |

the only reason to alt-tab would be for the steam friends chat console hey? unless you just have to be doing something else other than watching the next map load...
ideally steam friends chat would be made available in one of those forms like you get when you open the can 'o worms that is the developer console imho |

I run windowed and alt-tab is snappy. When I ran full screen it would take about 10 seconds after tabbing back in before I could do anything in game.

alt tab doesn't work on my macbook pro (X1600), but it does on my machine at work (FX 5700LE). so maybe it's an nvidia vs ati thing
well, when i say alt tab doesn't work, it does work but I can't get back into tf2. i haven't tried it for a fortnight or so, so maybe newer patches have fixed it. |

For the people that can't alt-tab, how much stuff do you have running in the background/foreground and how much ram do you have?

I usually have nothing running in the back ground, or, just winamp. And i'm usually trying to do something with winamp when alt tabing (haven't enabled the media keys on my G15). It's not a matter of RAM or anything, i have ~4gig in my pc. So i'm really not sure what it is but as tf2 is the first valve game i've ever played/bought it hasn't surprised me.
I'll give that a go next time, thanks streckers. |

Usually just email / msn / firefox running in the background. 4 gigs of ram. It's not excessivly long to alt tab. Just annoying that every other game made can do it within a reasonable time.

When I ran windowed it would take about 10 seconds after tabbing back in before I could do anything in game. That sounds broken, not snappy - any other game I've ever played works quite happily in windowed mode when you alt tab out. have you tried dying less?Do the math, 15 seconds out from every round when you die + 10 seconds to get out of spawn == large percentage of not playing, unless you're fortunate enough to be in a team without newbs |

I dunno, dying less works great for me.AHAHAHAHJ YTEH YOU SHOWEWD ME I MUST BE A f***ING UELSSS GAME PLAYA! I bet you spend more time dead than I do as a percentage. I must just have a short attention span or something because I find it so slow and boring. also, i use dying time for thinking about what ive done, that resulted in me dying, and then thinking about ways to avoid doing that next timeoh yeh, me too 1) randomly sniped by some camping sniping douche that my team's snipers are too f***ing useless to take out (or my team has 80% heavies because THE BIG GUN MUST BE BETTER AMIRITE?) 2) playing heavy or soldier and there's no medics on my team (see above re: class distribution), or the medics are trying to shoot people with the needle gun 3) stabbed in the back of the brain by strex because he's a spy. (I dunno how you can counter spies, haven't played enough but I figure there must be a way?) 4) walked around a corner into an engy turret that the rest of my team refuses to take out, or provide cover for me while I switch to a class better to take it out Basically all my complaints are about pub play with random newbs; I can see how it'd be heaps more fun if you're playing a ladder match or something with people that know what they're doing. |

wow i never have such drama on pubs. real skilled teamwork is rare, so i just develope an attack style that doesnt rely on nubs. if there's a problem, yo, i'll solve it - with whatever class is necessary.
spy rocks because he can basically take care of anything if youre smart. trigger happy pyros are my only worry. trog maybe you should jump on for a QGL clan match/scrim. we had an awesome ladder war last night with supreme team work going on. we pwnd. |

Yeah I do the same. If I'm on a pub server by myself I'll usually go scout or pyro, if there's a sentry and my team suck I'll switch to demo to take it out. As for spies, it isn't often they annoy me, especially as pyro heh. |

Man trog is really miffed at dying so oftenI just stopped playing it cuz its so boring anyway. The sitting around twiddling my thumbs waiting to respawn is only a small part of why I don't like it - the absolute noob focus and slow gameplay is way worse (haha no clipping on other players, SOFT) |

a big fat ASSSSEEEEFFFF goes to that comment trog.
its noob friendly, not focussed. but it obviously has the depth to keep the majority of us other jaded gamers on this forum happy. sounds like you're playing it like a noob and havent learnt the idiosyncrasies of the classes. sure the soldier is slow, thats why i dont bother with him on the larger maps. go scout or demoman and uberjump your way across the map in 1.5 seconds. no clippin on teammates is great. otherwise there would be wankers with their heavys blocking doorways. like spook said, you cant walk through spies. if i have to respawn in 12 seconds, i dont cry, i skull a beer. anyway, i'm not going to try and convince you to play it. i already have more than enough nubs to stab. |

pyros are the anti spy trog. because once they're set on fire, even if they cloak, you can still see the flames.
I agree that most classes could be made "faster". But the control zone maps (not 2fort, 2fort in a pub is just horrible), are usually fun, and usually require people to play fairly aggressively. |

its noob friendly, not focussed. but it obviously has the depth to keep the majority of us other jaded gamers on this forum happy.I tried them all; towards the end I was just staying with scout because it was the only one that didn't put me to sleep playing. It got a little depressing after I killed about 30 heavies in a row because they couldn't turn around fast enough.. haha it was like playing a console gamer. no clippin on teammates is great. otherwise there would be wankers with their heavys blocking doorways. like spook said, you cant walk through spies.I dunno, it just reeks of newb friendliness. I'm sure it was a really conscious design decision and I have to say it makes pub play better because you don't have (as you say) f***ing retards blocking doorways intentionally, but I dunno, it just gives me the creeps. if i have to respawn in 12 seconds, i dont cry, i skull a beer.I applaud this idea and certainly when I have played TF2 with MY hahn superdrys (hi5) it has made it much more entertaining. anyway, i'm not going to try and convince you to play it. i already have more than enough nubs to stab.yeh, the game doesn't need me running around getting backstabbed |

had a really fun game with the 8 QGL guys last night where we dominated some c***s on 2fort. It pretty much summed up why I'm loving this game, BL if you don't like it.
Much better result compared with last week (damn scouts!). |

I dunno, it just reeks of newb friendliness. Games that aren't friendly to new players can f*** off and die. There's a fine balance that needs to be struck, between giving new players a chance to actually enjoy the game and get better at it, and being involved enough to let the more skilled audience enjoy it, and I (along with many others) feel that TF2 has hit the mark perfectly. If you're new, you can pick up a support class and stay back to lend a hand, while still being very helpful to the overall performance of the team, and if you're good, you can pick a more offensive class and take the front-lines. I really can't see any reason to think this is a bad thing. |

Im a veteran TFCer (2002~2004/5) and I did a bit of Quakeworld TF in 1998 but not enough to get fully into Robin's creation. I always said Robin Walker and John Cook (don't listen to that Charlie Brown Valve promoter he has nothing to do with Robin's and John's TF -- he's a communist! HEHE!) Even I can't even drop that many names in quick succession. Well done. |

I've picked up on my spying abilities now. Picking your targets based on what your team is doing ftw. A heavy/medic combo about to lay havok on your team. Backstab dat heavy, even if it means a quick death afterwards. Chances are that heavy was gunna pound your team. Taking out a sentry just before your team assaults the a cap is great too.
Unfortunately I find playing a spy to support your team gives average scores. Sure you could kill a lot of people and generally cause a ruccus and get lots of points however that doesn't support your team very well, unless you are keeping the enemy near their spawn and not advancing. I've seen servers where the top player is a spy with 80 or so points, yet that team is losing to turrets and heavies. The spy basically doing diddly squat for the team. I play around 9pmish at night. Tends to be more players that are willing to play as a team. Scout rushes, heavy/medic combos, balance of defend/attack. The good stuff. |
