Activision are back with a new installment in the incredibly successful Guitar Hero franchise, the games responsible for cluttering our lounge-rooms with plastic console peripherals, and it's only going to get worse (lookout Rock Band). Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock hit stores nation-wide last week for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2 and Nintendo Wii with a PC and Mac compatible version also now in the works. Find out our thoughts in AusGamers' in-depth review.

I thought the Wii version had online play?
Just no downloadable content?

Yeah, Wii online play is the game-specific friend code dealy so not really comparable to the PS3 and Xbox 360 efforts but still better than nothing to be sure.

One thing that's irked me about a bunch of other reviews I've just checked out is they list game being too hard as a con - WTF, that's why there's something called 'difficulty levels', and the game has 4 of them. Hell, there's a few songs easy enough that my grandma could play them through.

Because you have to know their friend code or something dumb like that.

According to Nintendo, apparently people reall like the friend codes and thats how people prefer to play online.

The Wii's online capabilities are a joke compared to the 360 and even the PS3.

Can the various consoles play online matches against other consoles?
e.g. : x360 vs PS3?

Nah, only 360 vs 360, PS3 vs PS3 or Wii vs Wii.

If the consoles opened up that platform, it'd be a dream.. :(

Also, I can't play Slayer's "Raining Blood" on easy mode :(

Surly game developers could make it so you could do PS3 vs 360 vs Wii. I'm guessing their various console manufactures are forbidding it, which would be a great shame.

I think some people should hack the planet and use a PC as an intermediate and make it so.

Bloc Party - Helicopter is one of the songs unlocked in co-op play. it's the Co-op Encore for the 5th set of songs.

Highly unlikely, XBox Live runs on its own closed network, and the Wii with its friend codes is a closed system too.
