Last Nentendo I had was a N64, during which period I switch to PlayStation, but the Wii is something else, and I think I'll be getting one before the PS3, which can wait till it becomes more resonably priced like $500 before I go that path. But GT5 will probably make me run aout and buy one, just like GT3 did with teh PS2!

What you dont like the Japanese Phonetics in Nentendo?

EDIT Also, yes I can, but perhaps I should if I can't spell correctly?

Info on the AUSTRALIAN launch tomorrow @ 7 on Prime

Hopefully this is a sign that we're getting looked after, but I still don't expect us to see the console before January

heaps of trailers for games in one video

and very slick GUI videos:

http://www.nintendo.co.jp/wii/topics/wii_preview/presentation/06.html

few pages of these, the photo sorting is pretty cool on page 7

and browsing google maps with opera on page 9

Oh god you're going to be disappointed

There isn't even one planned yet as far a we know. If you ask me hopefully Nintendo'll be bringing back some of the better franchises and trying new things instead of rehashing Mario Kart.

I'd so buy one if the games weren't so kiddy. Thats the only reason I never bought the older nintendo consoles. I can so see the Wii controller breaking after about 5 months of play.

I HAIT FUN BUT I INJOY GUNNS AND GOAR

I just thought you'd like to know Alize that you're one of the last people in the world not to get over the whole "nintendo = kiddyyyyyy i'll take 5 playstaions and a $600 video card instead kthxbye" since the announcement of the Wii. You deserve at least some recognition for that I guess.

Yes that is exactly what I meant. You need to play kiddy games to have fun..r u retarded? How about that golf game in the video link without big heads but rather a Tiger Woods knock off or something? or FIFA? Tennis? anything with good graphics and realistic gameplay would be good (do they/will they exist on Wii?)

I, like a lot of non-kiddie gamers these days, was playing games when the characters were just blips on the screen. A few cream-coloured splodges was all your man was made of, it didn't mean massacreing other splodges representing crazed robots in the game 'Amok' wasn't hours of fun. If you need full HD FMV to enjoy a game i feel sorry for you, you are missing out on so much fun. Some of the best and most involved gaming fun of my life involved a cost free add-on called imagination. And if the fact that some of the graphics aren't dark HD rendering of violence and gore, cool, maybe my gf will be interested and will play along == Gaming Fun Time ++

That mix-video phatmike posted looks like awesome fun. It may be a little too energetic for me, but i'm keen to give it a go.

How much did the GCN launch at in the US? I have a feeling the Wii is going to be more here than the GCN was at launch (AUD329).

Nintendo have a press conference for Australia at (I think) 10am tomorrow.

$200 Raven, but it didn't come with a game

I'm predicting Nintendo will cut their losses and sell it at $350 here because beyond that the psychological difference in price between it and the basic 360 unit becomes less and less.

The thing comes with Wii Sports, Opera, all that picture viewing/editing software and a f***ing fantastic launch library so I can more than justify the price but Joe Average probably won't.

It takes a special kind of mind to look at the what's happening with the Wii and think "Oh no that's way too kiddy for me, I mean those heads are pretty large right there and there are too many colours, there's no way a person like me could find enjoyment in that".

Yes, he is.

Pro edit: I'm amazed you have the forums knwoeldge and congnitive ability to pin my entire forums persona down and yet you can't construe Phatmike's feelings towards the Wii from this thread or countless others.

Hashy, it did just occur to me though that I think when the cube was released, the exchange rate was at something like 56 cents. Maybe that'll help this time. As for it coming with a game though, pft, it's only WiiSports.

Well, I haven't bought a console since the SNES days, and I'm from Atari 2600 vintage, but I am so in the line for the Wii when it's released. Gameplay is king and with it's controller it is going to bring fun! gaming much more mainstream.

I'm not the only one who thinks like this, development and licence costs will be cheap, and the philosophy behind the Wii is going to attract the kind of customers and developers who appreciate good gameplay.

nintendo fan for life. its what I grew up on, 360 is my first stray because I have a nice HDTV and enjoy some of the games. Wii60 is the killer combo at the moment, I'll wait for my 2nd job as Kutaragi put it and some better games before thinking of getting a ps3. Never had a sony, and never really needed it. I hardly have time to play game on one system let alone 3, so I'm just going with the games I grew up with and continue to enjoy.

An article in sun herald or something earlier this week stated that the wii will be about 330 AUD here on launch. I think that is an excellent price and can't wait for zelda. I remember preordering it the day of the unveiling at e3 in 2004. Since then I cancelled that order and will be buying the wii version.

US conference is starting right about now.

There are some cool videos of the interface used in RL up here http://www.wii.com/jp

I especially liked this one: http://www.wii.com/jp/movies/forecastchannel/

some news from US conference on VC games pricing

NES games will be available for 500 Wii points, Super NES games for 800, and Nintendo 64 for 1,000. Wait, Wii what? Looks like they're taking the same tack as Microsoft: Consumers part with fake money more easily than real money. A 2,000 Wii-point card can be had at retail for $20.

basically a ton of info on the whole US shindig is listed here: http://wii.ign.com/articles/732/732707p1.html

Wii + 360 = Cheaper than PS3.

Why is it that games must be "Realistic" and have "good graphics" to be fun? Can you answer that Alize? What is the drawing power of having 25 different "realistic" and "good graphics" games? If a game isn't "realistic", or doesn't have "Good graphics", why can't you enjoy it?

He/she didn't say they weren't fun, just that they won't ever be into "those games".

Clearly this person simply does not like fun.

E: I personally wouldn't like if they tried too hard in the graphics, no. The console can't really handle that, so it's not trying to directly compete with the graphic whoring consoles of this upcoming gen. Wii-sports, and probably most every game you label "kiddy" has a distinct, not to mention adult, charm about them anyway. We'll stop hating if you stop bringing your opinions into our wii-loving circlejerk extravaganza thanks ;) \/ \/ \/

Well I rather the sporting games on console. Thats pretty much all I play. FIFA, NFL, FIGHT NIGHT ~ I wouldn't turn down the chance to play that bighead tennis game but if they made a realistic tennis game for Wii with the same features but better graphics, wouldn't you prefer that? Well I don't necessarily despise those games its just that I've played some really poor games on N64 and didn't enjoy them at all. Having said that I've always been a fan of Alex the kid on mastersystem but no way would I play it over the games we have today. Up until now though consoles haven't been as innovative as the Wii with the new controller. Will you guys stop hating if I buy one?

theres a really good screenshot thread over here http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=119261

machine is region free and will come with composite and component cable hookup in one like the premium 360 which is pretty awesome.

opera is free but you have to download it yourself, i'm guessing that would be due to opera/googles license agreement that you have to accept

CRIKEY! there seems to be so much sony hate for what should be a Wii love a thon.

Well I'll be buying a PS3 like most of Asia especially Japan. Not beause I think the 360 isn't any good, quite the opposite, and I liked the Xbox as well. Its very simple really Xbox is americian with predominately Americian developers while the Japanese consoles have more of an Asian market. This distinction can be seen in the titles released for each franchise, there are always exceptions or copycat titles but this is a general run of thumb.

For me PC gaming covers the Western titles (yes I know console exclusive only titles, so I have a life and don't need to play every game released just the ones I'm interested in) and console the Asian titles.

Also spending $800-$1000 on hardware pffft thats only a partial upgrade in PC land, and the Wii I recon will be $399 for the same reason as stated previously, phycological $200 difference between it and the Xbox.

So instead of a PC upgrade its time for a console upgrade PS3 and a new toy the Wii, so the ole PC gaming market should be scared, maybe its time they concentrated on gameplay instead of one up manship in the graphics department!

I will buy the Wii for the zelda alone. But I am also looking forward to mario party and wario ware games for wacky party shenanigans. The old games library will probably get only a few N64 purchases out of me since I have a heap of SNES/NES games sitting on my PC and generally N64 emulators can be a pain.

Um...I think that consoles have been more about 'getting pretty' than offering new gameplay experiences. Just look at the leap from PS1 to PS2 to PS3 and tell me the new console was about something other than graphics. The Wii is the only console for a while to actually do something different.

The PC is great for the control scheme. RTS games for example, or MMORPGs, these games have a complicated control scheme that just wouldn't work on a console. The only thing the PS3 and X360 offer that the PC doesn't is a cheaper price.

noooooo, there's now a chance the Wii won't be out in Aus this year.

The system's release is later than expected in the US and Japan - November 19 and December 2 respectively - suggesting that Australia (and Europe) might not get the radical machine before Christmas. Australian launch information is expected within the next 24 hours.

Tim Tibbetts :: I titally agree with the control issue and why PC gaming will always be a better option for some games, but I'm yet to be wowed by any release fro the PC in the last 5 years, apart from the "gee thats prettier" nothing I've played has had the X Factor. Yes I still lan with my mates and we go through the motions with the same FPS stable with minor excursions to evaluate the latest contender, but we usually end up back at Far Cry, COD/2, and MOHAA.

While on the console, the main emphasis is the gaming experence for the individual, being a PS2 owner I have GT3 and GT4, hours of fun, even though I'm a big V8 Supercars Fan, I prefer PS2 gameplay to PC, only use the PC version to go online. WRC only available on PS2, but a very playable game. But lets get to where the console really hands it to the PC, sports games, Rugby, AFL and Cricket, OK and soccer all play better on a console IMHO. And I've played them on Xbox as well.

The other big criticism of PC games, and I fully understand why with the millions of hardware combinations, but isn't that what DirectX supposted to sort out (couldn't help the MS dig) :), with the console I pop in a disc wait a few minutes an it works! Every time I fire up HL2 to play CSS I've got to download 100's of meg of updates, EVE online the same, well not 100's but it's still a delay.

Now for the control issue, this generation consoles maybe not, but the next generation will have keyboards, and will bring into the lounge room alot more of the PC. I wouldn't be suprised if this generation achieve some convergence before the end of their life cycle.

I think there is a *slight chance it may be delayed rlease here. As stated above, but I've read somewhere else (just someones comment, so not concrete) that the 7 news item has been delayed till either monday or next friday. Maybe they are gearing up to break some bad news? Maybe not.. We'll get it whenever europse gets it I guess.

So how much is shipping on one of these things?

With 4 million consoles before the end of the year, I see no reason for them to delay the launch. I doubt very much that it will be delayed. Our information could be released at the UK press conference.

Those worried about Nintendo going the way of Sony and postponing the release of its next-generation console can breathe easy. The Wii will definitely be here before the end of this year, according to Nintendo Australia.

Nintendo Australia has confirmed to GameSpot AU that the Wii will be released locally in 2006, with a spokesman saying the "Wii is on track for this year". A full global release schedule is widely tipped to be unveiled at the end of this week at a pre-Tokyo Game Show Nintendo press conference.

So when Sony delayed their launch and everyone went asking Nintendo when they are launching the obvious thing to say would be "uh we are not sure".

All they are saying there is reiterating what they have previously said. Like any company would do.

That said, I think we have a good a chance as any. It's pretty obvious Nintendo are trying not to make the same mistakes again. Heck, we even got the DS lite before the US did.
