A massive 1.4Gb demo of Dark Messiah of Might and Magic has been released - you can nab it locally from AusGamers, if you dare.
Dark Messiah of Might & Magic puts players in a first-person perspective, allowing them to immerse themselves in the legendary Might and Magic universe as never before. It is also the world's first fantasy action game to feature a complete first-person combat system.
This Source-engine FPS is shaping up to look like it might be good for a multiplayer bash as well.

just played the start "training" mission. it looks nice and the combat is pretty cool

and just finished playing part of the first mission and some of it looks just terrible, especially the models of the npcs. I used my skills on backstab and when you're up close stabbing them in the neck it looks real bad and blocky and just s*** in general.

gone are the days when you got like 1/3rd of the whole game as a demo like in doom or quake shareware. guess they cant do that anymore though as fps games are getting shorter and shorter with each new release.

short demo yes, but it gave me enough of a taste to be overall impressed by the game.

the combat is excellent.. luuuuurve the daggers. its cool when you just go psycho on the orcs with a flurry of stabs and they are left staggering around bleeding before you decap them.

being source, the physics are spot on and some cool s*** happens in the mayhem of battle.
i had these 2 orcs chasing me and i noticed a rope on the wall, so i cut it and watched as a big metal lantern thing swung down and smashed the s*** out of them and the wooden ledge they were on... it just looked really slick.

me rikey

Edit: Oh, I read it as "I go to install and immediately..."

somehow i doubt thats it since it came with the official demo

EDIT - ok got it to work. had to turn my windowsblinds off. after playing through it, all i can say really is WTF caused that 10 min demo to be 1.4gb? if thats how big it was for that tiny level i expect the full game to be like 20gb

I think this game has promise, but not enough of a taste though to satisfy me in buying it when it comes out. Downloading 1.4 gig to kill 10 orcs is a bit rich , the source engine is great and the destructable envrionments properly put into gameplay is fun.

MM have to work hard to top Obilivion.

Are people still playing that? It was really popular for a bit, then I went overseas, came back and noone is talking about it any more.

That's because it's single player.

Ran like a bit of a dog on my comp. Impressed by the graphics and the 'feel' of it, however. If they are going to make a better game then oblivion, using the source engine is a good start.
