Resevoir Dogs, a game by Eidos on the PC and Xbox based on an adaptation of the famous first film for director Quentin Tarantino, has been refused classification in Australia this week.

The game, set for release in September this year by publisher Atari included a storyline that attempted to closely follow the film, including the whole soundtrack seen on the movie, was described by Eidos, who developed the game as a game that " will appeal to both movie and gaming fans, and offers an unprecedented opportunity to play through the events of the movie and fill in the gaps"

Theres no news on if Atari or Eidos will attempt to resubmit the title with any modifications in order to gain an MA15+ rating (remembering that R rating is not available for game software in Australia). If we hear anything we'll let you know. Check out the OLFC entry for Resevoir Dogs

We have a Federal election next year. If only gamers were motivated enough that would be the opportunity to get an R.

gamers are only motivated enough to locate the game via bittorrent instead.

I thought the only reason games got banned in Australia was due to either having sexual content or mixing sex with violence, from memory, Resevoir Dogs had neither. I'd be interested to know why it got banned.

That's pretty much it, anyone who cares enough to want to play R18 rated games can still just download or import them from New Zealand without issue.

Nailbomb: Marc Ecko's Getting Up was banned for Graffiti, so it wouldn't suprise me if this was just for a little more than usual graphic violence. I'd imagine it retells the games ear, cutting petrol dousing torture scene.

My question is why should the game be refused outright while the movie is fine for sale?

Movie is rated R, no rated R for games.

How was Mark Ecko's game banned, and then Tony Hawk wasn't? It has graffitti in it too.

I'll be pirating this game for sure.

We aren't going to be able to pirate s*** forever as games move more towards paid for services.

If WOW was rated R18+ no australian subscribers would be able to play it (that would be a good thing and this is probably more an argument for maintaining a lack of R, but just requiring a re-rating)

With online console services this is going to become more prevelant even with non-persistent world MM games

There is no R rating because people evidently see a difference between watching grotesque violence and engaging in it (vitually). Bah still completly crap, today tonight mothers groups f***ing it up for the rest of us as usual.

I like the movie but I agree that nothing that could make a good gameplay game actually happens if they are sticking close to the movie.

This sort of thing about getting refused a classification here might be the best advertisement they could ever hope to get as people seek it out just to spite the censors.

Not only is Mark Ecko's game crap (The OFLC have done you a very big favour by banning the game), it implies that tagging is a form of expression and some sort of personal freedom.
