More from Square with their announcement about some new Final Fantasy titles including offerings on the next generation PlayStation 3 console, as well as mobile platform titles.

Currently, development for FABULA NOVA CRYSTALLIS entails two titles for the PlayStation 3 system: FINAL FANTASY XIII and FINAL FANTASY Versus XIII. In addition, FINAL FANTASY Agito XIII is also in development for mobile phones. However, the three new titles are only the beginning of the evolution of FABULA NOVA CRYSTALLIS, with more announcements regarding other facets of the project scheduled for the near future.
The press release has more information.

I totally don't understand Final Fantasy games. Do they all follow a single storyline or something?

no, each game is set in its own world with its own story - they are totally different games really (the exception being ffx and ffx-2, which was a follow on from ffx).

FFXII (last game for ps2) is set in the same world as FF Tactics, but in a different time with completely different charecters etc. You don't have to have played tactics to be able to play FFXII

FFXIII (this new title) will have the main game released for PS3 set in a new world with new charecters. Then FFXIII Versus will be released that will be a sequel of sorts, but still set with new charecters and show a different take on the original.

alls i have to say is, bring on PS3. I will always buy playstation simply for Final Fantasy (ok, tekken too :D)

Pick up a game and play it. There is no storyline between games with the exception of FFX and FFX-2 and the reoccuring characters/themes.

Apparently FFXII was one of only a handfull of games ever to get a perfect score by Famitsu in Japan. Scoring is done by 4 seperate reviewers who rate it out of 10, they then tally those scores for a total out of 40.

I only really started playing Final Fantasy games this generation. So my first Final Fantasy game was FF X.

The storyline of Final Fantasy was this. You played as a Tidus, a mid 20'ish boy that livesin a futuristic world called Zanarkand. A huge arse creature from the water attacks and destroys the city and you're thrown into some kind of vortex and sucked off to a "new world" called Spira. In Spira you meet up with a few hot chicks and an annoying guy who's weapons is a...ball.

In Spira the threat that destroyed your 'world' is here, it's called Sin. Sin goes around and kills stuff and basically keeps the population down, and technology to a minimal level. They believe that Sin is a manifestation of their crimes, immorality blah blah blah. Every now and then there's a summoner which basically sacrifices him/herself to stop Sin for manifesting for 10 years or something.

You join up with a Summoner, Yuna, on her pilgramage to "defeat" Sin. You're like "WTF, why don't you just kill him forever". You meet up with a few cool characters like Auran - he has a huge f***ing sword and what looks like a gimp arm. There's a few plot twists on the way. All in all it's around 40-50 hours of gameplay - and that certainly isn't doing everything you could do either.

That's an overview of the story without actually ruining too much. I really enjoyed the story. It's a great game and really sucked me into the franchise. I didn't really like FFX-2. I'm looking forward to playing FFXII later this year for the PS2.
