Vivendi let us know that Blizzard are doing some upgrades:
A very quick note to let you know that Blizzard is in the process of rolling out new hardware. The hardware should be live by the beginning of April, and new realms will also be part of this initiative.
(This was from yesterday so the upgrades might all be complete by now.)

And in other WoW happenings, PVP's crash a funeral
"Ok, let me sort of explain what happened. A friend of mine on the server Illidan tipped me off about some "illidrama" that was happening on his server. (He's a 60 Nelf Priest) Anyway, a person on the horde side died in RL. So some of the horde people decided to hold a memorial service for her on the game. They logged onto her character and moved it to winterspring next to a lake so everyone could come from both factions for the memorial service. There were around 40 to 50 horde (possibly more) in a line for the "viewing of the body" when suddenly out of nowhere, a 60 nelf rogue ambushes the dead person's character, kills her, and the rest of an alliance guild (SERENITY NOW) sprinted in over the hill, and AOE bombed the entire memorial service, killing everyone. They even made a pvp video of it, which I have seen, and it was hysterical. I feel terrible that they did this at a memorial service for a person in game that was evidently a pretty good person. But, at the same time, 1. the memorial service was held in a contested zone, and 2. its about the funniest thing ever."

Serenity Now's "gag" was about the unfunniest thing in MMORPG history. I fail to see that just because it was held in a game (the girl probably practically lived in it anyway) people find it acceptable to do this s***. It's just a nice gesture in the girl's memory, like a real funeral.

There was another funeral on frostmourne but having more than 2 brain cells they decided to host it in their own territory.

I mean seriously, anyone who hosts an event on a PvP server in contested territory, and makes an announcement about it on the wow forums saying "hay guys don't crash our party", is practically begging for some opposing guild to come along and start s***. I'm still not sure who is more stupid, the people hosting the funeral or the people crashing it.

If you die I will host a DOTA game in your name and then quit half way through just to piss you off.

Something similar happened on Spinebreaker some time ago out the front of IF. Horde came as well, no PvP during the "service", it was actually quite touching really...

Love the video even though it's a prick of a thing to do.

Good news about the server stuff too. Don't really have many issues on Eldre Thalas except for the occassional lag. Awesome server!

8-)

Hmm interesting trog ... the next patch (with no release date yet) is meant to happen at the same time.

And given that they do patches on Tuesdays it must be tonight or next week.

also what was up with the girl, she had cancer or something? they said a stroke killed her, but she must have been pretty unhealthy to play wow all day long.

They should have known better, but at the same time, what sort of jerkasses do you have to be to do something like that.

One thing to consider is that wow is (supposed) to be a role playing game, and if you are role playing an evil character/guild, then raiding a funeral is consistent with that role.

Holy f***. You all know my opinion's on WoW but this was people that could've lived on the other side of the world holding a memorial for a good friend in one of the only ways they could. It's a pretty cool gesture if you ask me.

Well one way of looking at it is they ruined what was going to be a video shown to the family by a bunch of selfish and emotionally immature internet geeks, causing them more grief and agony knowing their daughter wasted the last years of her life playing WoW. So the funeral crashers took it upon themselves to prevent this tragedy from occurring.

This is why I don't play MMORPGs. It's worse than the CS culture. No one crashed the Quake 2 wedding back in 2000.
