The latest long awaited Battlefield 2 patch has been released - you can download the full patch or the patch from the previous version now locally from AusGamers. The full list of changes is available on the download page, but here's a snippet:
* Dolphin Diving is no longer possible
* Players can no longer jump and shoot at the same time
* "Prone Spamming" is now fixed
* "Sprint exploit" is now fixed
* Helicopter now carry 8 missiles rather than 14
* TV-Guided missile now have a shorter range
* Damage decreased from M134
* Hit points on all air vehicles has been reduced
* AA missile lock has been improved
Torrents are available for both; in the event that we get congested you might have better luck using them.

Update: Please note that the filenames from our mirrors have changed slightly to match the "official" EA download filenames that appear on their FTP (although we have replaced spaces with underscores, because spaces in filenames on the Internets are horrible).

I don't know, I didn't make the patch, and I don't play beta software myself so I have no personal experience with it

i'm guessing if you said yours barely ran before then your systems specs are not suited to the game.

Astroboy try dumping your texture cache, defrag and then running it again.

These optimized files are stored in your \Documents and Settings\[username]\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache\ directory. If you've changed your settings several times, I recommend you finalize your changes, close BF2, go to the above directory and delete everything under the \cache\ directory. The next time you start the game and play single or multiplayer, your shaders will be optimized again. Close BF2 one more time, defragment your hard drive, and now things should be much smoother and load much faster the next time you go to play BF2.

Anyone want to tell me what the prone spamming bug was? All the changes sound good except for the decrease in tv guided missiles....that sucks as i love using those... guess it's just a part of EA's turning the Air Support from Dominating to Useless.

hmmm that's a tip... maps always go very slow at the start and allo the animinations are very shaky. after about 30 secs everything runs normal. i was wondering if that was a caching related thing as well.

I agree, just had a bash before and man the planes/choppers are now made of paper rather than cardboard. Decreasing the tv guides range is crazy, thats what the choppers are renowned for..their 'stand off ' capabilities to take baddies out/range some firepower into an area and provide support for ground crews. Now they make it so you have to get closer to do it AND because some guy with a slingshot can take you down now it ends up being a suicide mission to support your mates.

doh!

Apart from all that it runs awesomely on my ninja pc. :P

Didn't happen to fix the in game browser did they? Oh such quality, I might buy five more copies of this game. If you have format since installing the game the patch won't install. It can't just ask where the bf2 installation is?

Update: please note the filenames have changed - they are the same files, just renamed to match the "official" EA filenames (sans spaces).

Do NOT use the incremental:
This could have been caused by some missing files from the incremental patch. Unfortunately, the only way to fix this is to start over again. I know how frustrating this may be, but this is the only way to go. However before you proceed, please update your video card driver; I noticed that it hasn’ t been updated yet.

Oh, this might have been caused because the incremental "could have" been missing some files. Either it is or it isn't fix the f***ing patch!

i don't get much gaming time, look like i'm not getting any tonight since i've got to re-in-f***ing-stall.

so whos hanging out to buy BF3 ?

ET:QW for the win.
im sure they will have fixed most of the bugs,

What gave you that idea?
except the browser of course, you learn to like it, the same way you like a 3 legged dog

A 3-legged dog can't really be fixed. A server-browser on the other hand is software ... easily rewritten if the developers actually cared.

after playing the game last night it feels way better under this new patch. the support class and the AA have finally been given some balls. c4 chuckers are a thing of the past. however the claymore/mine friendly fire tweak has sort of turned infantry combat on its head, claymores everywhere!!

Any performance increases, particularly with load times? I'd like to play BF2 but I don't have the time to sit down and play it for the hours needed to justify its ridiculous load times.

the load times are fine when you consider a map uses 800mb ram. but i wouldn't use it on a config less than what i have:
-p4 3000
-1gb ram
-7800gtx

besides the load time is perfect for taking a piss or making a drink. i think it fits in well!

trog, once you dump your old cached files and let it fire up a map and re-optomise stuff its pretty good.

Im running a AMD 4800+, 2 gig of ram and SLI 7800gtx...the game load maps in about20-30secs...I think the Raptor drive makes a diff as well.

Yes after playing it for a bit last night I am liking it, anything that pisses off those bunny hoppers is fine by me. I just wish fellow chopper pilots would think of their gunners a bit and not go all gung ho and try to fly a chopper like a jet and score all the kills for themselvs. I like lining up ground troops and tanks for my gunner to rape with his cannon and guided missiles. I dont know if its a tweak from the patch but I believe the laser guided missiles screen looks more real? more 'tv monitor' like i guess rather than just flipping to a greyscale image??

Yeh, if I was more into gaming I wouldn't have a problem with it for those reasons, but I tend to play in half-hour/hour bursts and don't fancy spending big chunks of it loading.

Getting back into ET though which is perfect, takes like 10 seconds to load and bam, you're playing.
