Finally, after a few months waiting on pre-order I am advised today that this baby is shipping to me now. D-Store have them for a good price cheapest I have found in Oz at he moment if you are interested in one. Here's some of the scoop on them...
Exclusively designed to compliment your Xbox 360 console, the Control Centre not only matches the design of the console but allows you to organise and customise your AV Universe like never before. Features: Customisable Backlit LCD Display allows user to name individual Inputs for simple navigation. Advanced Signal Regulator Technology monitors the Output Channel and automatically compensates for weak signals. Electronic Switching and Remote Control allow for effortless operation. Connections for HDTV ready Component Video, Digital Optical, S-Video and Composite RCA Phone. Built-in 5 port 10/100 Ethernet Switch provides reliable connection to PC, Xbox Live and other Broadband services. 4 Digital Optical Inputs for digital sound

Very handy if like me you have a lot of stuff in your HT gear and not enough optical inputs for all the gear. I'll report back when I give it a good thrashing! promoted forum item

from the looks of it, it's a glorified AV switcher.

i'll just stick with my receiver to do that job for me

Yes thats exactly what it is and yes my AV receiver was doing ok until it had too many peripherals I wanted to run through it and not enough optical inputs for the surround sound etc, so hence buying this. With this I will be able to happily switch between all of the peripherals straight into the AV receiver of the Home Theatre setup.

I guess its been made a news item because a lot of people here are gamers and they might not know of such a item for their setups.

bah. No one at pcau is answering the phone and they're closed Saturday. Pretty dodgy that they don't do online orders in this day and age.

After using a Joytech xbox360 vga I think I will steer clear of anything else of theirs.

If you want to know more, the cable was only about 2mm thick and so the image it was providing was all blurred, with a second image of the same thing blurred and to the right of centre.

Just quickly, because I am stepping out the door, I have been using this thing since I got it and its bloody awesome, had all 4 components into at at one stage, all being fed thru the device into my digital optical input on the AV receiver. It even works a treat automatically changing to the correct channels per device via my Harmony 880 remote.

I dont know how anyone could be getting less than great performance unless the peripherials or HDTV units are having issues, but a big thumbs up from me so far. Running xbox360, DVD dedicated player, DVD recorder, Foxtel Cable box, thru it into an 86cm Sony HDTV all audio being fed into a Marantz SR4300 AV receiver.

Like I said all working as treat via the Harmony remote...I too was concerned what the HDTV image would be like thru it and its superb, i cant see any difference than when the xbox360 or other items were in a direct connect.

Best money I have spent for a long time. go figure.

p.s toliman, I think you will be pleasantly surprised, changing between devices and channels (using my Harmony again) is pretty much instantaneous. My guess is because the Harmony is 'remembering' where it was in the last on/off operation ect.. and that might speed things up. But yes if you have a lot of s*** in your HT setup this thing is very handy indeed.
