sCary has been alluding to some problems over at John Romero's constantly-struggling company Ion Storm, and has just posted up some more juicy rumours of events that may be transpiring shortly involving the possible adjustment of Romero's role in the company.

Anyone know how many copies of Daikatana they managed to sell? I'm sure Deus Ex was pretty successful (at least amongst 3dfx owners :) but I wonder how much money they've made compared to how much they (or Eidos) have spent.

They've been fairly guarded with the full sales numbers, but from memory it was in the top 20 for two weeks (first at 6th, then 19th?). Whatever happened, there's no way that it recouped the 7-figure sum spent on it.

It couldn't have gone as bad as their first game though - Dominion sold just under 3,000 copies. Total. erk.

spray: haha, dominion - I don't understand how that game didn't sell well, it was quality. I remember playing it with blahnana when the demo came out, and going "wtf? this is a game?"

Deus Ex did well because Warren Spector took out a restraining order on John Romero's ego. It wasnt allowed within a k of the game.

deus ex was really a rip off of system shock 2 though

sure it was good and all but it wasn't really different enough to make it a great game in itself

though definately ion storm's best
